Russell Crowe Talks MAN OF STEEL

"It takes you to a planet where the sun is four times larger than ours. I think people are going to love it and if you've seen the trailer, you realize that this Superman is not just floating through the air, held up by a wire. This Superman is supersonic..." - Russell Crowe

Broken City | Russell Crowe | Hollywood Dailies | Movie Trailer | Review

When asked to discuss Zack Snyder's Man of Steel actor Russell Crow (Jor-El) shared the following:
"It's really complicated, it's really complex. I don't think anyone's really tried to get into the psychology of what it must be like to be Superman. And [how] people would really respond in a modern society if someone like that popped up. Zack Snyder who directed The Watchmen, who directed 300 and a few other things, he was given a great deal of responsibility. Because when it comes to comic book heroes and superhero films, at the top of the food chain is Superman. I think the biggest indicator for me as to how it's looking is that the financier of the film, a lovely fellow by the name of Thomas Tull- quite a reticent man, doesn't mince his word, he's sent me dashing e-mails, he just loves it and thinks its going to go down really well. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. It's a massive undertaking, the type of sets we worked on in that film were incredible. It takes you to the ground on Krypton. It takes you to a planet where the sun is four times larger than ours. I think people are going to love it and if you've seen the trailer, you realize that this Superman is not just floating through the air, held up by a wire. This Superman is supersonic, when he decides to fly, he doesn't muck around. I'm really looking forward to the way people respond to it."

I'm still kind of on the fence about MOS, but Crowe's casting alone has made me decide to pay the price for a movie ticket.
Jaspion - 1/15/2013, 6:23 PM
Supersonic? Like in Super Saiyan Sonic?

RR51 - 1/15/2013, 6:40 PM
Quick confession: I am not a superstitious person but I fear that this could be the next Hulk because that came out in 2003 and this will come out in 2013. Both of them also have great actors and huge expectations as well. I even had a dream last night that I was extremely disappointed with movie.
ATrueHero1987 - 1/15/2013, 6:40 PM
@Levitkuz You seen the movie and ain't tell us??lol

But for real, from the second trailer, it look like it would be a real good movie. After Iron Man 3, MOS is the next CBM I'm ready to see.

Eh, Alan Moore back in the 80's.

Russell Crowe seems like a pretty cool guy. I have faith that The Man of Steel is going to be fantastic and maybe one of the best CBMs ever.
DrDoom - 1/15/2013, 7:08 PM
The Man of Steel trailer seriously gives me the tingles every time. Very, very well done.
ATrueHero1987 - 1/15/2013, 7:11 PM
If someone were to tell me around this time last year that I would be excited for a MOS movie, I would look at them like they were stupid. Well not only am I excited for the movie but also the MOS comic that's coming out around that same time.(How could you NOT be though?! I mean, it's being written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Jim Lee!)
hench - 1/15/2013, 7:14 PM
@RR51, the biggest difference between this film and the Hulk is the director...Ang Lee is great for a movie like Life of Pi, not for a comic book character. I have faith that this movie will have an amazing story, and if Synder drops the ball on that at least we know with him the action will still be good.
Dev7 - 1/15/2013, 7:16 PM
So a Man of Steel comic written by a Synder and a Man of Steel movie directed by another Synder? Coincidence?
Super12 - 1/15/2013, 7:30 PM
I gotta agree w/Levitikuz, well idk about best of ALL time but I think its gonna be hard to overestimate this movie. I can just imagine what Snyder can imagine with the shots on Krypton. Imagine a battle scene full of Kryptonians! It's gonna be beautiful. I want this to put Superman back on top where he belongs.
Ranger14 - 1/15/2013, 7:42 PM
Russell Crowe is one of the reasons I am NOT that excited about this film as of yet. I still think we are going to get an over-abundance of origin and emotional drama and little of Superman being Superman. Time will tell.
Jollem - 1/15/2013, 7:53 PM
man of steel is going to be insane. krypton is gonna be neat. the everything is going to be friggin' awesome. there's no other movie this year i'm excited for as much

bring on the next trailer!!
GreenHalJordan - 1/15/2013, 8:18 PM
I will say it again over and over. MAN OF STEEL WILL BE THE BEST SUPERHERO FILM OF ALL TIME YET
M3T4LL0 - 1/15/2013, 8:21 PM
Man of Steel will OWN 2013. SUPERMAN WILL BE KING AGAIN!
thewonderer - 1/15/2013, 8:21 PM
I've always felt like Marvels shared universe has hurt the solo films. Iron Man is the only one they seemed to get just right, but imo that didn't match the heights of Batman Begins or The Dark Knight or The Dark Knight Rises (Spare me the Nolanite accusations please, I've heard them all before).

You cannot just make a superhero film with a cliche origin and a very bland uninspired convenient villain to fight.

DC's approach to making these films are way better. I love seeing the superhero analyzed, focus on his true struggle, pain, and journey to become who he is. Don't introduce him with no real insight and then set up a villain. Focus on the hero and set up the villain as a part of the hero's past to learn who he is.

ATrueHero1987 - 1/15/2013, 8:35 PM
@thewonderer once again you contradict yourself.lmao
Brady1138 - 1/15/2013, 8:36 PM
Is Crowe actually going to act in this one?
superpooper - 1/15/2013, 8:41 PM
Yep. This is gonna be good.
SuperioR23SupermaN - 1/15/2013, 8:53 PM
Sounds pretty epic... I can't figure out why some CBM fans are on the fence about going to see MOS in theaters. Good or bad, there is no way I'm not seeing MOS on the big screen...
MrEko - 1/15/2013, 9:04 PM
Beat still, my heart..... Man of Steel is coming ;)

SageMode - 1/15/2013, 9:26 PM
Hope this doesn't turn out to be another Green Lantern.
MrReese - 1/15/2013, 9:36 PM
Cavills gonna own!!
Jlocklin - 1/15/2013, 9:51 PM
Never really liked Superman. Mind you, I probably haven't read any of his best source material (Though I love when he and Bruce get together). My opinion to date has been built primarily on outdated and/or frustratingly mediocre live action representations. Christ, Welling made me want to jump in front of a steaming locomotive. Rosenbaum and Durance were what kept me watching Smallville. But now I have, finally, some hope of seeing a Supes I can become a fan of. So excited!
pud333 - 1/15/2013, 10:01 PM
I'm seeing the midnight showing on this one for sure.
Supes17 - 1/15/2013, 10:08 PM
I think that we deserve a good Superman film...
Superman Returns almost had me on suicide watch
shangho - 1/15/2013, 10:09 PM
I wasn't sure about Snyder directing (his films have been hit or miss)although I confess I was one of the few who enjoyed Watchmen (and I bought the Graphic novel when it came out in the 80's),but the more I see of MOS the more faith I have that it will be THE Superman movie we've all been waiting for!!!CAN'T WAIT!
pepe - 1/15/2013, 10:47 PM
I like Russel Crowe cuz he´s fat...
Newbus - 1/15/2013, 11:20 PM
thewonderer - "You cannot just make a superhero film with a cliche origin and a very bland uninspired convenient villain to fight."

A bit like Lex Luther vs Superman...again!

Isn't it time Superman moved on rather wallow in self pity and doubt again?

Having said that this film looks interesting after the last Supemran sleep fest.
Maximus101 - 1/15/2013, 11:22 PM
This movie is going to be epic! My most anticipated cbm this year, I'm not sure if star trek is classified a cbm but if it is then star trek is number one then man of steel lol
