The film, unlike Dragon Ball GT, will be part of the official Dragon Ball canon, with creator Akira Toriyama supplying direction on the story. The film will be set between chapter 517 and 518 of the manga, often called 'The Lost Decade' due to the 10 year time-jump following the battle with Majin Boo.

Update: New tv ad with a familiar tune...cha-la, head- cha-la....

SYNOPSIS: The events of Battle of Gods takes place several years after the battle with Majin Boo, which determined the fate of the entire universe. Wiss and Bills, the God of Destruction, are tasked with maintaining some sort of balance in the universe. After awakening from a long slumber, Bills is visited by Wiss and he learns that the galactic overlord Freeza has been defeated by a Super Saiyan from the North Quadrant of the universe named Goku, who is also a former student of the North Kaiō. Bills tracks down this warrior, Goku on Kaiō-sama's planet with his ally, the mysterious Wiss and challenges him to a battle. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods explodes with dynamic action from there, featuring character such as Kuririn, Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, and more of the Z Warriors.

Why do Japanese voice actors sound like Wicked Witch wanna bees. Goku sounds so weird.
MarkJulian - 3/17/2013, 10:34 AM
Well that old lady in the middle at the start of the video is Goku's voice actor.
Pesmerga44 - 3/17/2013, 10:50 AM
The new villain is a really weird design I am not liking him at all.
GhostKILLERgx7 - 3/17/2013, 10:53 AM
i can remember the first time watching DBZ i really hope this gets dubbed and brought to the rest of the world.........and don't [frick] around with it fox!
CavEl - 3/17/2013, 10:57 AM
@ Jimdlux - This series started in Japan in the 80s with Dragon Ball, which required the VA to have a softer voice, so they casted woman as Goku.

Japanese VAs never change, so adult Goku is still voiced by the soft voice his childhood actor required.
Spidey91 - 3/17/2013, 11:05 AM
I really hope they dub this for a release in Latin America,with the old voice actors (f*ck the DBZ KAI dub,f*ck it in the rear with a fork).
Tevii - 3/17/2013, 11:06 AM
Neobaggins - I don't know how many episodes you've seen or what order, but this show really is great. Great action AND some great emotional moments as well. The multi- generational aspect is really good too.

lsc2222 - 3/17/2013, 12:28 PM
Dear God this show just will not die.....

How many "most powerful being in the universe" fights can Goku have?

At what point does he just go and start punching planets or something?
IIIAdamantiumIII - 3/17/2013, 12:46 PM
LOVE IT!
LancerEvo - 3/17/2013, 12:53 PM
so Goku vs. Anubis? Alright...
13echo - 3/17/2013, 1:09 PM
The movies are kind of like a condensed version of the DBZ show but they are not "cannon" to the show but more of a different take on it. So with that being said how is this cannon to DBZ when no DBZ movie has ever (except maybe that Trunks movie)been cannon to the DBZ show?
Luminus - 3/17/2013, 1:15 PM
@lsc2222: Too late, sort of. Broly was running around ki-balling whole planets into oblivion by the time Goku encountered him in his adulthood. And Broly was SSJ1 at the time.

Super Saiyan God looks disappointing
DravenWayne88 - 3/17/2013, 5:25 PM
I will never understand why they chose to keep an old woman as the voice of Goku. It simply doesn't sound good by any stretch and I swear her voice is the only reason I can never and will never watch DBZ in Japanese.
JredTheRed - 3/17/2013, 6:03 PM
Super Eff'in Stoked for this.....but only if theres a english dub. I hate subtitles. and btw....GT is canon. Toriyama did oversee the show and make character desgins and all that good stuff. Just cuz there is no manga doesnt mean it isnt canon. I guess that means all our beloved expanded universe star wars stuff isnt canon either cuz there are no movies for them. blah
NeoBaggins - 3/17/2013, 6:43 PM
@KNIGHT3000/Tevii

Wow, some great "emotional moments"? Tevii, to be fair, I don't think I've watched enough to get to that level of conclusion. And KNIGHT3000, I love martial arts as much as the next guy. I'm probably the only apologist alive for the MATRIX sequels. But back in the day, the 90's, I tried to watch Dragonballz because it was so popular. Out if all the pop culture I'm versed in, I just couldn't get on board. I remember watching a scene where two dudes were seemingly about to fight. One of the green martians and one of the spike-hair dudes. They stood in front of each other talking for so long that I just turned the channel. And it looks like it's drawn on dirty paper and the character designs are terrible with their big square eyes and choppy animation. I may have given up on it too quick, but that's my experience and opinion on it. I don't knock anyone who's into it.

I see people saying something about someone going "Super Sayin" all the time on message-boards. So I respect the impact.
Mixisflame34 - 3/17/2013, 7:17 PM
I home they have it in English later on.
JredTheRed - 3/17/2013, 7:51 PM
@Neo - you really out to give it another REAL chance. Maybe even try DragonBall Kai that cuts out all the "extra filler". I hate anime. DBZ is the only one I like. And I felt the exact same about it my first time trying it as you do. I didnt become a fan until long after all the series had ended.
NeoBaggins - 3/18/2013, 12:39 AM
@JredTheRed There's a guy at work who's always bringing me Bruce Lee and Street Fighter DVDs. I bet he has some of these. I'll check it out. If it has a good story maybe I can get passed the way it looks.
Emjeed - 3/18/2013, 1:35 AM
@NeoBaggins You're not the only one that tired to get into it. Everyone i know is crazy for DBZ. I tried watching it from the beginning and really couldn't get past those scenes where they sound like they're trying to take a shit but can't due to constipation. I'm told its because they're straining and trying to power up or something. IDK.. just couldn't do it. But I'm quite certain if they made a live action movie I'll be all over it. No not "DB:Evolution" but a good one.
didich - 3/18/2013, 3:30 AM
@NeoBaggins

The anime (even Kai) probably will look dated to you now, read the manga it's the best form (if you want of course).

@lsc2222

Lol. What you just said makes no sense. The series is much more than that. It's like saying that Superman is only about him beating the criminals of Metropolis.
NeoBaggins - 3/18/2013, 4:38 AM
@didich lmao At least you got to some power up super shit scenes. Every time I tried to watch it they just faced each other and talked more than fought.

@didich It may be too late for me. I wouldn't know where to start. Maybe I'll check out some clips on ytube.
JredTheRed - 3/18/2013, 10:31 AM
@Neo - you should be able to stream them online...i really suggest the Kai version cuz its is mostly story and action and not the 4 episode long conversations
Teois42 - 3/18/2013, 11:45 AM
This is all kinds of bad ass.
