Robert Downey Jr. Stops In Beijing For IRON MAN 3 Press Conference

Robert Downey Jr. is currently on a globe spanning promotional tour for Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3. After an earlier stop in Seoul, South Korea, Downey made his way to Beijing, China to up the marketing presence for the first Phase Two Marvel film. As the world's second biggest film market and with notoriously difficult criteria for foreign films, China is a key region for the international box office success for the film. To that end, Marvel partnered with Chinese producers DMG Entertainment to secure one of the limited foreign film slots and are even releasing a different version of Iron Man 3 which DMG CEO Dan Mintz commented on, stating, "There’s only more and not less." The actor also praised the performance of Wang Xueqi who plays Dr. Wu. (Spoilers)"[Dr. Wu] is the reason why Tony Stark is still alive at the end of Iron Man 3," says Downey. The China-only theatrical cut will also feature exclusive scenes with actress Fan Bingbing who has an unspecified role.

Based on Warren Ellis' Extremis storyline and following the box-office shattering events of Marvel's The Avengers, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has become the target of global terrorist The Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley) who has secretly been the mastermind behind most of the tragedies in Tony's life. Isolated from his fellow Avengers, Tony will have to devise his most advanced armor yet if he hopes to save the woman he loves, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Standing beside Tony as he takes on Mandarin's villainous allies and Ten Rings subordinates will be War Machine James Rhodey (Don Cheadle) who was conspicuously absent during the Chituari invasion in New York. Based on a screenplay by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Drew Pearce (Godzilla, Sherlock Holmes 3).
