There's also a new report from Variety, which highlights the film's increased marketing efforts over the last week in the wake of reports which stipulated that "Pacific Rim" was headed for a low, opening weekend domestic box office gross. If you've visited CBM daily, you'll know exactly what the trade is referring to, however, do you feel the efforts to increase more awareness were warranted or has the film now been overexposed?

"When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse."

If Grown-ups 2 make more money in the first week than Pacific Rim...we riot!
KnobGoblin - 7/7/2013, 5:41 AM
If Grown Ups 2 makes any money at the box office, I will have lost all faith in humanity.
Sitterson - 7/7/2013, 5:48 AM
@Crescendo Agreed. Pacific Rim will be amazing, and there no freaking way that Grown Ups 2 should do better!
DarkGrifter - 7/7/2013, 5:53 AM

30 to 40 millions at opening weekend.
Grown Ups 2 will take second spot with 20 millions probably.
jerryblake - 7/7/2013, 6:06 AM
Don't think it's gonna be a smash hit ...
Here hope I'm wrong and it will end up with 50 to 60 millions at opening weekend

There is no such thing as too much exposure for a film! It will be a hit! Sandler is over Grown Ups will bomb! Pacific Rim will reign supreme! This movie will be a hit at the box office!

@LEVITIKUZ

I love looking at films like that

Batman Begins - Patrick Bateman has sandwiches made by Carter, gadgets by God and an assist by Dracula.

Btw you left Heimdall out

@ lordofthethrones, kanye west can't even rap, all he does is talk and only thing good about his music is his beats just like jay-z. UGK, Bone Thugz, 2Pac, and Tech Nyne rap circles around kanye any day of the week.
jerryblake - 7/7/2013, 7:37 AM
Snoop Dog ? This famous porn producer ?

Since we're all neglecting the article for rappers, I gotta give it to the greater half of Heltah Skeltah, Sean Price.
"I said forever P flaunt shit, hand full of stones; The Infinity Gauntlet"

Speaking on the article, I dont know why this isnt pulling me into the theaters. I cant wait to see it... but I highly doubt I'll hit the theaters. I wonder if my disliking for mechas is really strong enough to override the monster awesomeness...
LordoftheThrones26 - 7/7/2013, 7:52 AM
WHY IS IT PEOPLE TAKE EVERYTHING SO LITTERALY!!!!!!

I just watched Pacific Rim last night in the movie theater of the military base out here in Lemoore, California (I also saw Captain America about a week or two early and let CBM that the Avengers trailer was after the credits :) ). But anyway, this film is awesome!

I'm not so good at reviews but let me know if you want one, I'll do my best but I can summarize right now that this is one of the biggest surprises of the summer! That is all.
LordoftheThrones26 - 7/7/2013, 9:17 AM
@Spideyboy
How epic is the final battle? How badass is Slattern?
osideous - 7/7/2013, 9:43 AM
i pre-screened pacific rim on the 2nd and my fiance and i already have our review up of it.
osideous - 7/7/2013, 9:46 AM
@MexicanSuperman what the hell are you talking about? Rap is Poetry over a beat. Kanye is one the best that does it. UGK and Bone Thugz (as a group) are nowhere near as good as Kanye. 2pac yes. Tech Nyne that's debatable.
PapaII - 7/7/2013, 10:09 AM
Pearlman looks a lot like RANXEROX in this movie.
ALmazing - 7/7/2013, 12:17 PM
Rock Flag and Eagle!!!

EyeGore - 7/7/2013, 1:21 PM
The movie isn't being overexposed, but it is being VERY badly marketed. I have no doubt that del Toro has made an imaginative action epic with a lot of emotion and humor.

But you'd never know it from the TV commercials. According to every ad I've seen on TV, this is a movie about giant robots punching giant monsters while Idris Elba screams at them. It's no wonder the film is tracking poorly.
savageguitarist - 7/7/2013, 7:19 PM
who cares about kanye west. rap/pop is crap. rap in movies is especially annoying and makes the action scenes look soo cheesy. rap music is like watching batman and robin on a never ending loop.
Steelgoat - 7/7/2013, 9:57 PM
@Eyegore; I couldn't ask for more.
wcwpoet - 7/8/2013, 6:11 AM
I'd be shocked if Pacific Rim gets beat by Grown Ups 2 but than again you never know. I'm really looking forward to this though.
