Neil Gaiman On Sandman

Neil Gaiman On Sandman Neil Gaiman On Sandman

See what Neil Gaiman had to say about how he thinks Sandman should be filmed.

Mathew Vaughn told MTV in March that he would like to direct Neil Gaiman's Sandman in an HBO style series. He believed there was too much material to fit in to an hour and a half movie. He also stated that he had discussed the topic with Gaiman himself after they collaborated on Gaiman's Stardust.

MTV talked with Gaiman last month at the C2E2 convention in Chicago and asked him about Vaughn and about his thoughts on the HBO style format for Sandman.

"I haven't talked to Matthew for years now, because Matthew's been making 'Kick-Ass. I haven't really seen Matthew since he vanished off into the realm of 'Kick-Ass,' which was a few years ago."

"I think there are lots of ways to do 'Sandman'. The most logical would be as an HBO-style series, and there are lots of directors who would like to do that, and there are lots of people who've suggested it."

Hawksblueyes: I would love to see this come to pass if done properly.

what i really want to hear from Gaiman is about Death! and when we will see that movie! i mean he has almost totally missed the window for fairuza balk, she was a dead ringer back when he first talked about it.(90's,early millenium) but we had to wait for mirrormask, stardust, now sandman,WHERE IS DEATH?

Anyone remember the HBO PREACHER series?!

It'll never happen!

Shame would love to see it, thought this was gonna be a feature film though?

Either would be amazing!

We gotta support JONAH HEX & GREEN LANTERN, then we might get all this stuff!!!

HBO dropped Preacher because it was too close to a property they already had developed and ready for release (True Blood), and they thought the subject matter may be too dark for mass appeal. I think they were wrong about both and it was a stupid mistake. But I think Sandman would be perfect for them, and it would wash that bitter Preacher taste out of my mouth... Man that last bit sounded horrible. I'm not even a Catholic anymore.

If HBO doesn't want it, there is always STARZ (they've gotten alot of props lately for Spartacus!)!

I couldn't agree with RorMachine any more. Sandman is just the best series ever.

I agree with Gaston too. I would love a Transmet show, but nobody on earth could play Spider Jerusalem. Best character ever imo.

All my favorite series would be great as HBO shows if they were done right: Sandman, Preacher, Fables, Transmetropolitan, and Y: the Last Man.

Although I know they're making Y a movie. Idk that might actually be better.

Any suggestions for other reads with that list?

@ElBeaster As HBO series? I would add those.
--Hellblazer with all the comics out, that could take a good amount of seasons.
--The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
--100 bullets
--Punisher MAX (the adult version)
--The Boys

Oh my god...an HBO series about Sandman with Guillermo Del Toro-style cinematics and effects, or at least on the same trippy level as MirrorMask with visual effects and Niel's storytelling, would be beyond glorious!! ut it would have to be done EXACTLY as the book, or else it would cave in on it'self and die before even one season. Like the Crow: Stairway To Heaven.

A film would be a terrible idea but a series may just work.

I just hope that this masterpiece isn't ruined like many other comic adaptation.

Been saying this all along! Let's just hope HBO or some other quality network grabs it and it doesn't wind up on the Syfy Channel!
