The Reboot without Fear

As fans wait patiantly and impatiantly, the question still remains Will DareDevil be one of the movies that are brought back to life like the Hulk? Or they that have thrown the S like punisher warzone?
This is merely MY two cents

What should the concept be?
Likened to Hulk, we've seen and know of his transformation which could be shown again through Flash backs at points in the movie. Get to a good story of DareDevil that makes you feel your IN the comic. Dare Devil is griddy, dark, and needs a serious tone.

The setting: RYKERS island, which is where the movie starts. A man there is unjustly acussed of smuggling drugs. This man, is a key whitness to a case to justify Kingpin's presence in Rykers, Only there for the soul reason of hopefuly ending him there in prison before he can testify. On the day Matt and Foggy see him to tell him that they have evidence to set him free, a prison break insues. Matt becomes the Dare Devil, and makes his way into the prison to get to the whitness. Consiquently, one of the escaped prioners, is the homicidal BULLSEYE who goes out of his way to find and end this whitness.

Before he gets a pencil in his back, the whitness tells DareDevil to tell his Lawyer, to look up a private detective he hired: Dekota North, she was following leads to find more evidence in case he got done in.

Matt and Nelson's new perogotive is to see that Dekota is kept safe while she looks for clues, meanwhile Bullseye is back on the streets and is out to get the next loose end. Daredevil/gets close to Dekota while working with her, but is weary because of his recent relationship Karen Page, who as it turns out was killed by Bullseye. Dekota is concerned about DareDevil because he's become more....rogue in his methods since Pages' death, and is worried that he'll become who he hunts.

The director should be big hitter like Tony Scott, or Spike Lee.

Here, is the cast I think can really make this work

Matt Murdock- Micheal C. Hall
Bullseye- Vincent Cassell
Dekota North- Kate
Foggy Nelson- Sean Astin
Ben Uric- Hugh Laurie
Wilson Fisk- James Gandolfini

i would like to see a reboot
i think the first was decent
(please no one respond to that)
but they need to start over with better actors and a good story and a keep it connected to the comics
tyko450 - 1/2/2009, 11:18 PM
ps
i like the pictures
tyko450 - 1/2/2009, 11:18 PM
My apologies, the actress' name is Kate Mara

Oh and the 1st one was decent enough in its Extended edition, but was still lacking
TheSoulEater - 1/2/2009, 11:23 PM
Here's what I think they should do:

Quagmire14 - 1/3/2009, 12:20 AM
I agree that the first movie was decent (not counting the muddled Director's Cut), but it definitely didn't feel mature and dark enough. If there is another Daredevil movie I hope that it doesn't retread anything from the first movie and it makes more of an effort to get into the psychology of the characters. Tony Scott's visual style could be suitable...can't picture Spike Lee doing a comic book movie.
Reck79 - 1/3/2009, 1:01 AM
Now that video's what I'm talking about, show Matt as a kid really giving some bullies hell.

And yeah, Tony Scott is probobly best
TheSoulEater - 1/3/2009, 1:47 AM
I think Oded Fehr (The Mummy, Deuce Bigalow, Resident Evil 2&3) should be Bullseye.

and just as a disclaimer, i'm not being racist by casting a middle eastern as a homocidal maniac. I honestly think Oded would be awesome for the job.

also, EXCELLENT choice for Kingpin (although i do have to applaud Michael Clark Duncan for his portrayal)
SGA - 1/3/2009, 3:38 AM
I love the idea of a Hulk-style Daredevil reboot. Recast it, but I don't think they should stay focused on Kingpin and Bullseye. Maybe Kingpin and someone new, but don't rehash with Bullseye again too. Thats the drawback of starting over again. Don't wanna rehash villains, thats how u keep it fresh and interesting, with new threats that strike on varying levels. Good topic.
TheMyth - 1/3/2009, 3:40 AM
"Whitness" we must protect the whiteness (I know it's suppose to be witness, but that it was in the article 3 or 4 times threw me off)?

I think the only really good things about the Daredevil movie was Michael Clark Duncan as Kingpin and Colin Ferrell's portrayal of Bullseye. I think Ferrell did an excellent job, although I wouldn't mind seeing him replaced. Daredevil doesn't really have too many big costumed villains, so I would like to see Bullseye return (most of Daredevil's villains are gangsters like: Kingpin, the Owl, Hammerhead, etc.).

I wouldn't want to just jump over the Karen Page story, she's a HUGE part of Daredevil, although I wouldn't mind a possible rehash of Electra to set her up as a villain (Leader of the Hand) later.

I'd like to see Dakota North eventually, but I think it would be too early to really establish her unless you did a group bad guy, like the Hand.
NAPosey - 1/3/2009, 4:11 AM
Yes, Elektra and The Hand. Do the story based on Elektra being hired to kill Foggy and falls for Daredevil and she ends up siding with DD against The Hand.

Not only was DD horribly miscast, so was Elektra. I'd like to see some justice done to both characters if there was a reboot.
WeaponX - 1/3/2009, 5:04 AM
I'm in favor of it. So long as Frank Miller doesn't direct it with Jason Statham ad Murdock.
Frank Garret - 1/3/2009, 5:07 AM
I really liked the DD movie, I know it had its problems, but overall, it wasn't bad. The one problem that I had with it was Ferrell as Bullseye. He was TERRIBLE!! Bullseye is supposed to be a hardcore, 100% psycho, and he made him look like a little wimp who cries when he misses his target.
BuckyB7588 - 1/3/2009, 7:44 AM
I always thought chris pine would be a good daredevil. But I really love the idea of casting hugh laurie cause I love everything that guy is in.
LastSon1027 - 1/3/2009, 8:46 AM
a spike lee daredevil movie! that may just be genius!

i too liked the original one, i think its unfairly seen as a failure for some reason...but a reboot wouldnt piss me off too much
Rorschach01 - 1/3/2009, 9:08 AM
Spike Lee? that actually might be just "left-field" enough to work! Maybe have Frank Miller on in a consultant's role (after "the spirit", that may be the closest he gets to a director's chair for a while!)

Daredevil:A Spike Lee Joint
version4 - 1/3/2009, 9:36 AM
Just as long as Ben Affleck doesn't touch the movie with a 50 foot pole... it should come out all right.
warpath15 - 1/3/2009, 10:14 AM
They should forget about Elektra altogether and introduce Typhoid Mary.

Also I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Hammerhead, Eric Slaughter, the Slug, or the Purple Man instead of a focus on the Kingpin. And they could bring in some mob toughs like Tombstone.

No need to rehash the same characters.
warpath15 - 1/3/2009, 10:31 AM
Spike Lee directing Daredevil...Hmmmm. Nah, put KEVIN SMITH in the chair. He wrote Daredevil for a while (which, was SWEET), let him get in there and do some goodness.
IonParallax - 1/3/2009, 10:32 AM
GET SOMEONE WHO CAN REALLY FIGHT,CAT LIKE REFLEXES AND OVER ALL ENTERTAINING TO WATCH, GET A GOOD ACTOR,WHO LOOKS OR CAN LOOK THE PART,BE TRUE TO THE COMIC BOOK, GET WRITERS INVOLVED WITH CREATOR OF THE BEST STORIES OF DD EVER CREATED, MAKE THE COSTUME LOOK COOL AND JUST LIKE THE COMIC BOOK,LOOK AT ALL THE COSTUMES MADE IN SUPERHERO MOVIES PAST AND IMPLEMENT WHAT WORKS INTO A BAD ASS COSTUME.GET A DIRECTOR THAT KNOWS ACTION AND THAT WILL HONOR THE BOOK AND ITS DIEHARD FANS,TAKE SOME LIBERTIES, BUT DONT DO ANYTHING WITH DD THAT WILL PISS FANS OFF. TALK TO FANS, FIND OUT WHAT WE WANNA REALLY SEE IN A DAREDEVIL MOVIE...THATS ALL I GOTTA SAY, OH YEAH, DO IT RIGHT.
GUNSMITH - 1/3/2009, 11:06 AM
Kevin Smith is definitely a better choice to direct the movie. I think Statham would be a good Daredevil, but I don't know if he could pull off the Murdock persona.

Believe it or not, i wouldn't be opposed to maybe even seeing Ewan Macgregor in the role... what do ya think?
version4 - 1/3/2009, 11:18 AM
KEVIN SMITH SAID HE'LL NEVER DO A SUPERHERO MOVIE, IT WOULD BE FULL OF BANTER..LIKE CLERKS,,HE DOESNT DO ACTION MOVIES.
GUNSMITH - 1/3/2009, 11:58 AM
Daredevil was original, I liked it. A Hulk style reboot with flash backs and such would be perfect!
Fartman - 1/3/2009, 12:11 PM
I agree,fartman...just do some flashbacks to flush out a bit of the origin story and press from there.Typhoid mary is definitely a great villian, but I don't know if i would stand her alone. Have Kingpin hire her from prison, let Bullseye get jealous and decide that Daredevil is HIS kill, have him escape from prison for that purpose and run it from there.
version4 - 1/3/2009, 12:34 PM
How about Matthew Fox as DD? He looked enough like him in SPEED RACER to put one in mind of the man without fear. He could do a much better job than Affleck, and be more convincing.
SupermanReturns2 - 1/3/2009, 12:39 PM
Dunno, I loved the idea of Jason Statham as Daredevil....he would kill it!!
Talontd - 1/3/2009, 1:03 PM
Oh and Kevin Smith as a director goes without saying. I don't know why they didn't approach him about the first one!
Talontd - 1/3/2009, 1:05 PM
MICHAEL C HALL!?!?!?!

[frick]ING BRILLIANT!
MasterExploder - 1/3/2009, 2:03 PM
Michael C Hall isn't a bad pick at all... definitely looks the part.

I'm not sure why they didn't approach kevin Smith for the first movie, but they might want to get him in on any reboots. If he doesn't want to do a superhero movie, give him the consultant's chair ro find the best director. As long as we don't see the matinee read:

Daredevil: An Ang Lee Joint
version4 - 1/3/2009, 2:57 PM
kingpin is not black and kevin smith likes watching comicbook movies but will not direct them. check out an evening with kevin smith 1-3 worth every penny. also i think daredevil had its shot make a sequel or none at all. marvel has plenty of other heroes that can be adapted.
grif - 1/3/2009, 3:38 PM
2 Things,

1. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

2. The "throw the "S" thing is gay. Stop saying it.
Skyh00k - 1/3/2009, 6:03 PM
How about Devon Sawa as Matt Murdock or Jared Leto?
Buddahnice - 1/3/2009, 6:38 PM
Everyone: Yeah, Sry for the bad spelling.

Frank Garret: Yes NO STATHEM!!

BuckyB7588: FERRELS WAS BRILLIANT, YOU ARE WRONG. :D

NAPosey:
How about Milla Donavan being the witness and Matt getting close to? Since there IS more of a conection between the two.
Warpath15:
I like what your thinking, Bullseye could be in a SEQUAL to the reboot, and in THIS movie, Kingpin could hire someone ELSE to kill him like ECHO played by Michelle Rodriguez

http://media.photobucket.com/image/michelle%20%20rodriguez/faithashley81/michelle-rodriguez-in-court.jpg?o=43

Or

White Tiger hired by the Yakuza, played by Ziyi Zhang

http://media.photobucket.com/image/ziyi%20zhang/spike_grg/Ziyi_Zhang.jpg?o=4

However I think it best to leave Purple man and Tombstone for Luke Cage to handle in his own movie.

TheSoulEater - 1/3/2009, 6:48 PM
This article made me bust out this movie and watch it. Ben Affleck should never be cast as a superhero, period. He looks like he is still practicing his fight choreography the whole time and a total lack of agility or acrobatic skill at all. Jennifer Garner only bombed the role because of bad direction. Collin Ferrel could have been good, but it was like watching Kostner in 'Wyatt Earp', he overacted it at times. Micheal Clark Duncan was spectacular as the Kingpin, the scene in which he kills his 2 bodyguards for talking to the press, so brilliant. I blame this movie's lack of success mostly on the Director, Mark Steven Johnson.

The idea to cast Hugh Laurie as Ben Urich is an Epic call, good job! Sean Astin is a good one too.
TheMyth - 1/3/2009, 7:19 PM
I'd love to see Milla Donavan in a movie, but I do disagree that there is more of a connection between the two. Yes Matt did actually marry Milla, but it always comes back to Karen Page with Murdock, although I think Milla would be more movie friendly (easier character to set up and don't need too much time to make a connection. I think Karen would have to be in 2 movies before she got killed to do the story justice).

Other than that small disagreement on who is more important to the DD comic book story, I completely agree with you TSE.

PS - Echo would be awesome and Michelle looks the part, but can she play anything besides a cop? I don't think I've ever seen her in anything where she's not an officer.
NAPosey - 1/3/2009, 7:27 PM
ben affleck wasnt that bad..and i hate affleck! i certainly think its his best performance but i know thats not saying much. i liked garners elektra...obviously not in her own movie though!

i still think clive owen would be a good choice for daredevil..or whoever said mathew fox, yeah i could see that.

either way if it does happen, lets hope the dont THROW THE S at it...just for you skyhook!
Rorschach01 - 1/3/2009, 7:48 PM
ben affleck wasnt a bad daredevil it was just the story that was messed up a reboot isnt a bad idea
Colossus8 - 1/3/2009, 8:26 PM
NAPosey:
Yeah, she's a decent actress. SHe can play a hard *** thug, theif, you name it, as long as she isn't "Sugar, spice and that jazz".

Yeah I was going toward Movie friendly with Milla, Dekota (In my opinion) has the most chemestry with DD behind the ranks of Karen and Electra. She's tuff, and to be in DD's world, you gotta be.

TheMyth:
Yes indeed, Ben Afleck couldn't out act a rock. I liked Garner as Electra, but she was under used. Like Sam L. Jackson in Starwars, or Gwen and Captain Stacy in SM3. Yes, Collin did over act, except that he's playing BULLSEYE the ultimate over reactor, Ferril had it down. Micheal Clark WAS good as Kingpin, not the Kingpin "I" had in mind, but he wa good. And like Garner, Under used.

Thank for the Foggy/Urich call complement, I thought of Sean Astin, a friend thought up Hugh Laurie and I thought:"Dude thats awsome." and used it.

TheSoulEater - 1/3/2009, 9:45 PM
i agree w/ the guy a few replys up...i think Devon Sawa is a great actor and could pull off the Matt Murdock role.
as for Daredevil, he can pull off a dark attitude and would look cool in a costume. as for his action sequences, just put a guy in the suit for the action and Sawa for the close ups.
SGA - 1/4/2009, 1:56 AM
"ben affleck wasnt that bad..and i hate affleck! i certainly think its his best performance but i know thats not saying much. i liked garners elektra...obviously not in her own movie though!"

I have to disagree. Affleck certainly was that bad. Also, his best performance has to be "Chasing Amy" by far.

Garner is too thin and American looking to play Elektra Notchos, who is Russian and has always been a darker stronger character than she was played by Jennifer (obviously that's not all Jennifer's fault, but the script as well).

I just hope this movie does eventually get a reboot. DD has got to be one of the coolest characters in the Marvel world.
NAPosey - 1/4/2009, 2:16 AM
Elektra is Greek. Not Russian and you're right, Garner fell short of the look and feel of the character. Too skinny, unattractive, physically awkward and white to pull off the role.

Maybe someone like Roselyn Sanchez (Rush Hour 2)... she couldn't possibly do any worse.
WeaponX - 1/4/2009, 2:39 AM
To TheSoulEater: Yeah, My girl loves to watch House, so I have recieved high dose of Hugh and lemme say that guy is a quick thinker and extremely talented as an actor. Your right about Jenifer Garner. What I meant when I said she "bombed the role because of bad direction.", it felt like at alot of points in the movie that you could actually see that the actors were being told to take the character a certain place that Jennifer herself didn't feel was right. As if you can tell the director was sitting there telling Micheal Clarke Duncan how to smoke his Cigar, you know what I mean, like the director was overcontrolling.
Check out my article on X4 when you get a chance.
TheMyth - 1/4/2009, 3:08 AM
BEN AFFLECK AS DAREDEVIL WASNT BAD-BEN AFFLECK SUCKED REALLY BAD, HE CANT FIGHT,HE LOOKED STIFF, HE SUCKED SO BAD HOOVER VACCUMS HAD NOTHING ON HM, I THINK STATHAM WOULD BE GOOD BUT I WOULD RATHER SEE STATHAM BE THE PUNISHER AND DIRECTED BY LETERIER...
GUNSMITH - 1/4/2009, 6:34 AM
Michael C. Hall - didn't see that one coming, but i think it could work, it all depends on his physical capabilities. Daredevil should look more like a gymnast rather than just bulked up like Ben Affleck was. it may sonud weird but lets be honest the look is all important. when he's in the costume he has to look like a superhero not just another douche in a stupid halloween outfit.
theFACE - 1/4/2009, 6:45 AM
Loved BULLSEYE in the 1st movie!!! But should'nt use him in this, well unless ol' Colin play's him again, otherwise... no. PUNISHER hunting DD would be cool, but that wont happen, Yes BLACK WIDOW and maybe a sick twisted new (super) villain!!! ; )
LEEE777 - 1/4/2009, 8:14 AM
p.s. Guys how do you pick a little icon to go with your post?? Thanx.
LEEE777 - 1/4/2009, 8:16 AM
leee777 you click on members up top and you can add an avatar then.

im not saying affleck looked the part or that the costume wasnt shit..but his acting performance wasnt too bad, i thought he was ok as matt murdock lets say...and gunsmith talking about bad actors, you want statham in the role!

weapon x you think jennifer garner is unattractive? well each to their own i guess! but whats all this too skinny crap? last time i watched daredevil miss garner had the curves in all the right places..if only her solo movie had of followed frank millers elekta assassin comic...but i dont think that would ever happen.
Rorschach01 - 1/4/2009, 10:02 AM
Elektra really needs to be in it. they could do like the hulk did, start out by making it like the "origin" already happened that way by this time, elektra could already be resurrected, and working for the king pin. was she working for him before or after she died? also, it needs to tie into the movie universe so there needs to be reference to the hulk incident in harlem. things like news reports in the backround, and tv interviews with general ross. i don't think daredevil should have anything to do with the avengers, but he should still be a part of the universe. Was the new punisher a marvel studios movie?
blacksword7 - 1/4/2009, 12:07 PM

I am all for a Daredevil reboot. I really liked the beggining of daredevil. So much has been said Im jus waiting to see how great it will be or how much of a train wreck it will be.
HR - 1/4/2009, 2:31 PM
Who should be Donavan? My guess is Natalie Portman as Milla
TheSoulEater - 1/4/2009, 2:51 PM
I disagree w/ the notion that Punisher: War Zone in any way "Threw the S".
If you're a Punisher fan, and you've actually watched the movie, you would know it's definitely the best interpretation of the character to film, and was actually a pretty kick-@$$ movie!
It did bomb in the box office, but I think we owe a lot of that to a certain Mr Jane, and an inexplicably BAD film that was released previous.
adamant877 - 1/4/2009, 3:56 PM
I really dig the casting pics, though! I would probably change out the Kingpin, James Gandolfini really doesn't fit the bill... Too italian.
And whatever happened to the recent news about Jasan Stathom being considered by Frank Miller for a reboot?
adamant877 - 1/4/2009, 4:00 PM
sound like a good idea to reboot.
check out my first piece of writing ever about the spidey 4 rumors at http://www.comicbookmovie.com/spider-man_movies/news/?a=5795 and please comment and let me know what u think. thank you.

I heard at one point MARVEL was actually going after Jason Statham if they were ever gonna reboot it. Personally i'd rarther see him as Hawkeye.

I know
TheSoulEater - 1/4/2009, 8:33 PM
i dont want to see statham in any movie thats important to me..EVER! my god the guy is not an actor..hes an action star. why not have stephen segal as superman or i think it was said by grif elswer...jean claude van damme as batman!
Rorschach01 - 1/4/2009, 8:54 PM
Fox would be good as DD, but better as Bulls-eye. I like Gandolfini as Wilson Fisk, he really looks the part. Michael C. "Dexter" Hall would be good as Daredevil. Ben Uric played by Harvey Keitel.
squirt - 1/4/2009, 9:50 PM
Matt Fox as Bullseye? Say what?
TheSoulEater - 1/5/2009, 12:08 AM
Here's what I think they should do:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=W69s0jpKbRE

(Check it out, you won't regret it)
Quagmire14 - 1/5/2009, 3:03 AM
Quagmire, I saw the video the first time you sent it! Thats what I comented on:
"Now that video's what I'm talking about, show Matt as a kid really giving some bullies hell."

Remember?

TheSoulEater - 1/5/2009, 4:38 PM
Ok, I have to say LOVE the idea of Michael C. "Dexter" Hall as Matt Murdock/Dare Devil BUT Affleck didn't do a bad job... not at all. The blame is w/ director Mark Steven Johnson! The major threat to any reboot of DD or comic flick is Mark Steven Johnson! COME ON! Did anyone see Ghost Rider? And what did Dare Devil and Ghost Rider have in common? Mark Steven Johnson! It was the same hacky corny crap that made Dare Devil a descent movie and not a great movie! If Jon Favreau would have been choosen to direct instead of act alongside of Affleck it would have Iron Man.
ashetrentnn - 1/6/2009, 4:05 AM
I'd agree, except Nick Cage has acted alright in other parts. I've yet to see a Ben Afleck Movie were he acts well.

But yes keep STEVENS AWAY FROM THIS REBOOT
TheSoulEater - 1/6/2009, 4:35 AM
Nick Cage is good in drama, but for some reason he has this idea that he is an action star...and I just don;t buy it. He just doesn't look tough.
Quagmire14 - 1/6/2009, 10:16 AM
I too (like many) enjoyed the original DD (it had WAY less holes in it than say the original POS Ang Lee 'Hulk' did!) I don't understand why it did as poorly as it did.

I only have one contribution for the reboot idea:

Jason Statham - 'Bullseye'

...'nuff said.
loganoneil - 1/6/2009, 10:45 AM
Ummmm....no
TheSoulEater - 1/6/2009, 5:53 PM
What utter crap. The first film was good, Ben Affleck made a great Dardevil, and those are some of the worst casting choices I have ever seen. Who honestly gives these people permission to post their own littlef antasies as headliners?
slimybug - 1/6/2009, 6:22 PM
Wow, you have a really fitting name
TheSoulEater - 1/7/2009, 12:04 AM

TheMyth - 1/7/2009, 12:33 AM
Who do you think could play Milla Donavan?
TheSoulEater - 1/7/2009, 7:59 PM
No one commented on my pick of Matthew Fox as DD?
SupermanReturns2 - 1/7/2009, 8:08 PM
Squirt said:

I said:"Say what? NO!" and, If either of the two he'd be best suited playing DD.

TheSoulEater - 1/8/2009, 5:09 PM
I don't know why the first one doesn't get any love it really was a pretty good movie I'd be all in for a re-boot they just need to have a darker story next time and not make the trailer look like a Spider-Man relative
JHowlett - 1/9/2009, 3:59 AM
Matt Murdock- matt foxx
Bullseye- adrian brody
Dekota North- Kate hudson

TheSoulEater - 3/21/2009, 3:13 AM
Matt Foxx might make a good daredevil...though i think jason statham wouldnt be bad if he could drop the english accent. the problem is...they used up his two best villains in the first movie.
I suppose you could just reboot the villians too.

all i ask is please...no Pseudo Martial Arts/dance scenes that take place on teeter todders on a playground. man that was SSSOOO lame!! almost as lame as Ben Affleck.......but ddddaaanng Jennifer Garner is HHHHOOOOOTT!!

I actually really liked Ben Affleck's portrayal of the character. A lot of people give him crap but in this role I thought he really brought something to it. It seemed to fit him well.

However, if he won't come back, I think the idea of Michael C. Hall becoming the next Daredevil is a brilliant choice. I'm a huge fan of him in the great show Dexter and now that you've mentioned his name he is the only other person that I can see in the role. Someone really should make sure that the producers of the Marvel films hear that idea. Michael C. Hall would be great. He really should get offered more projects because he is very talented actor who should have gotten the Emmy this year.

There really are some very under utilized and talented actors from television that deserve big breaks like Hall. People like Dylan Walsh, Jensen Ackles, Michael Rosenbaum, Michael Chiklis, and the whole cast of Lost.

the firts Daredevil was pretty good...one thing is for sure: Colin Farell played an awsome Bullseye, and Michael Clark Duncan did a good job as well. If they do a reboot they should use at least Colin Farell.
