Here's something I made up while gearing up for the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe announcements and upcoming projects. It's based partially on order of release and partially on what I think makes the most sense taking the content of all the enries into account. It's really just for fun but could probably be used for reference if someone was trying to get completely caught up on the universe. Click on the image below to see the full size.

Hope y'all like it! If you want to see more of my infographics or hear my podcast about shared movie universes then check out the webite, look around and subscribe if you feel so inclined! Click on the image above to hear my episode on Guardians of the Galaxy where my cohost and I review the movie and break down pretty much everything about it.

Nice I like it a lot

I'm always wondering what order to actually watch them in but I tend o START at The First Avenger.
Orphix - 8/5/2014, 5:37 AM
Love the infographic. Very classy.

It's a tricky one when deciding on an order because you have to ask yourself do you want to watch stuff in chronological order or in an order that was intended by the studios.

The chronological version is fun - I've even managed to watch a fan-edit of all the phase one stuff in chronological order.

But there is still something cool about watching them in release order - and awaiting the big reveals and surprises as planned.

EnSabahNur - 8/5/2014, 7:26 AM
@NovaCorpsFan @Orphix

Yeah I'm fascinated by the piecing together of such a vast universe once it has so many pieces. I certainly see the value in the in-continuity chronological watch but I just love the whole phase system they've utilized and especially how they're making the TV shows exist alongside the films and all. Fun to diagram - it's mostly all about what NOT to watch before you've met the prerequisites
Pitt - 8/5/2014, 8:35 AM
I usually start with Captain America, but there is one big error in regards to Iron Man. In part 2 the unknown element that Tony created is the Tesseract, why in the Avengers he had battery his batteries charged to 400% while fighting Thor when the Tessersct is a source for unlimited power.
Orphix - 8/5/2014, 8:52 AM
@Pitt

Strictly speaking what Stark creates in IM2 isn't a Tesseract but a new element that has been created by Howard Starks work on the Tesseract.

The original arc reactor Howard makes in the 60's is based on his research of the Tesseract (that he discovered looking for Cap in the 40's) and which Tony miniaturized in IM1.

The new element is the next stage.

Iron Man 3 connects to Agents of SHIELD WAY more than it does to Thor 2?
Pitt - 8/5/2014, 9:38 AM
@ Orphix thanks for clearing that up, I always thought it was the Tesseract because it gives off the same glow
Dandy - 8/5/2014, 9:50 AM
Two real ways to watch the MCU. By release chronology (as in watch them according to their release date) or by their Real Chronology according to their timeline, which is

Captain America: The First Avenger
Agent Carter
Agent Carter season 1
Iron Man
Iron Man 2
The Incredible Hulk
The Consultant
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to Thor’s Hammer
Thor
The Avengers Assemble
Item 47
Iron Man 3
All Hail the King
Agents of SHIELD episodes 1-7
Thor: The Dark World
Agents of SHIELD episodes 8-16
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Agents of SHIELD episode 17-22
Guardians of the Galaxy
Agents of SHIELD season 2
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Daredevil season 1
Ant- Man

EnSabahNur - 8/5/2014, 10:14 AM
@Orphix

Good breakdown of all that

@Pitt

This whole concept is supported all the more my the fact that they use pretty much the exact same sound effect for the Tesseract-powered weapons in TFA as the arc reactor repulsor sound
EnSabahNur - 8/5/2014, 10:16 AM
@Dandy

Good call on the fact that there’s two ways to look at it – it always brings to my mind the whole argument of whether to show somebody the Star Wars films for the first time in release order or episode order
EnSabahNur - 8/5/2014, 10:18 AM
@homodrome

Good point because of the Extremis and AIM references. Next time I update I'll use an arrow to indicate that IM3 should be viewed before starting in on AoS
JusticePourTous - 8/5/2014, 10:21 AM
@Pitt

I just assume maybe that's the element that the tesseract is made of, but its a tiny tiny amount in Tony's suit, and making much more would be unfeasible. There you go, some headcanon for you ;)
TheShape - 8/5/2014, 10:23 AM

EnSabahNur - 8/5/2014, 10:29 AM
@TheShape

That’s excellent, and at the end of the day I’d say that’s totally the way to go about it - but hopefully you kinda enjoyed looking at the visual flow of the thing I made =]
Tidaltree - 8/5/2014, 10:33 AM
All Hail the Kinc! ^^
danetooeasy - 8/5/2014, 10:35 AM
Are we sure that AoS pilot episode takes place before Iron Man 3? Or am I just misreading the infograph
EnSabahNur - 8/5/2014, 10:53 AM
@Dane

Yeah just like homodrome said, that could certainly use a tweak. The shows and one-shots are sort of shown as tangents off of the main movie course but I could definitely indicate that IM3 should be viewed before AoS
TheShape - 8/5/2014, 10:54 AM
@ensabahnur

Add the comics to your amazing flow :

-Iron Man 2 Public Identity - Right after iron man 1
-Iron Man 2 Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D - During iron man 1.
-Captain America First Vengeance - During and before captain america: the first avenger.
-The Avengers Prelude Fury's Big Week - right Before the avengers.
-The Avengers Black Widow Strikes - right Before the avengers.
-Iron Man 3 Prelude - Right after the avengers.
-Thor The Dark World Prelude - Right After The Avengers.
-Captain America The Winter Soldier Infinite - Right before captain america winter soldier.
-Guardians of the Galaxy Prequel Infinite Comic and Guardians Of The Galaxy Prelude - Right before guardians of the galaxy.

jascurio - 8/5/2014, 10:59 AM
@dandy I like your list that's what I try to do. But just to tweak it a bit the agent Carter short was actually confirmed to takes place after season 1, and I usually watch the incredible hulk after Thor. So for me I'd put the incredible hulk and the consultant after thor
danetooeasy - 8/5/2014, 11:19 AM
@EnSabahNur Apologies! I did not read the previous comments D:
GliderMan - 8/5/2014, 11:41 AM
To be honest, I don't like this. Why would you watch Iron Man before Captain America, as far as viewing order? Me, I would personally rather watch them in as chronological of an order as possible, but I understand if you disagree.

Chronology:

Captain America: The First Avenger
Agent Carter series and One-Shot
Iron Man
Iron Man 2
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer
Thor
The Incredible Hulk
The Consultant
The Avengers
Item 47
Iron Man 3
Agents of SHIELD, ep. 1-7
Thor: The Dark World
All Hail the King (presumably)
Agents of SHELD, ep 8-16
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Rest of Agents of SHIELD season 1
Guardians of the Galaxy
AOS season 2
The Avengers: Age of Ultron

And then of course there are the tie-in comics.
EnSabahNur - 8/5/2014, 12:17 PM
@GliderMan

I LOVE the the idea of watching all these movies in in-continuity chronological order. I think that that kind of thing is very fun - but I only feel that way because I know it all so well. I think there's a lot to be said for watching things in order of release because of the cinematic intentions. Our introduction to Nick Fury comes at the end of Iron Man and then when he shows up at the end of Captain America we know him and why he's there. You wouldn't want to meet C-3PO for the first time as a weird naked robot in the Phantom Menace, would you? I don't think any of this deserves any sort of argument by the way - I just think it's fun to discuss =]
TheShape - 8/10/2014, 5:09 PM
@EnSabahNur Iron Man 3 Occurs before agents of shield.

http://prntscr.com/4bkv01
EnSabahNur - 8/11/2014, 12:05 PM
@TheShape Indeed! Thanks for pitching in with that. You'll notice I've actually updated the graphic to reflect that by showing an arrow going from IM3 to AoS (implying that if you're trying to take in all of the installments, you should not watch the pilot of AoS before watching IM3). The "timeline" does not necessarily go from left to right in all cases, it's more about what arrows lead to what entries. Thanks again!
