Real Life Batman: Arkham City Costume

Ever wondered what Batman's suit in Arkham City/Asylum might look like in real life? Well wonder no further, because a company was just creative enough to give us a real life interpretation of the suit.

The people over at The FX Labs have successfully created a replica of the Batsuit from the video game Batman: Arkham City/Assylum. The replica is life size and can be worn as shown in the photos below.

The company had this to say about the project:

Wanted to show a project we completed recently. A group of us had been talking for years about what we always wanted to see done on screen for the Bat franchise. After the game design came out we decided to approach it with that end result in mind.

All of us agreed that this was the best movie suit never done as well as the entire game being the film we all wanted to see. And there were so many aspects to it, including the illusive blue and gray of the new city suit, that we wanted to tackle. Some of the goals on the suit were that we wanted the pieces to be accurate like they walked right off the screen. The whole suit would need to be proportioned to the point that all the pieces worked together to complete the image of the character design. This was tricky due to the fact that no human being in the world is the shape of that guy. Especially the cowl. Also the cross texture of the entire suit must be included and it has to run synced up on all panels as the game suit does, so that all lines intersect at an X throughout the entire suit.

We wanted to achieve the right colors and needed them to change dramatically from one light source to another, like the game suit does. Especially the new game where you see a brighter blue cowl in one light and then a seemingly black cowl in another. This went for the gray also as it needed to go dark and also reflect the greens that they used in the game. The whole suit is weathered to match the grittiness of the game suit and made to be worn. We wanted to follow the same basic design of the movie suits meaning separate sizeable torso, legs, etc… all mounted on an undersuit so that anyone could have it tailored to them the same way the movie pieces can be sized. The briefs were done separate so that the movement would be fluid and the entire muscle set-up should look one piece but move easily.

With the cowl being such a unique shape we didn’t want to sacrifice feel so we chose to do two sizes with the cowl. We mounted the City bat in the pics as we are almost done with the add-ons for the boots and gaunts as well as the new belt, and would be completing that suit. But also show how the Asylum bat looks and with a switch of some gear you can go either way. Let me know what you guys think and I’ll shoot some pics of individual pieces later if you like.
Thanks!

Can he move his neck around?

Somethings off with the cowl and the ears. Still a great costume though.
Unionjack - 10/25/2011, 8:42 AM
remove the trunks, change the gauntlets to more Batman Begins in design and lose the blue tinge on the cape and cowl and you have a pretty awesome design for the costume!! - for the next reboot of Bats, they need something more like this. Since Tim Burton gave us the black version in the 80's, all the movie version have felt similar in design.

Looks better than the Nolan Costume
CaptainAmerica1945 - 10/25/2011, 8:56 AM
Dahamma, I agree, its pretty awesome looking!
nuck82 - 10/25/2011, 8:57 AM
the ears are to long, and the black with the blue is what throws it off i think, if the arm armor and gloves were blue it would look better, bet this cost what 1,500-3,000

...wow! you people complaining about this already and yet some of suggested they should make the costume look like the arkham city game suit. seriously, you people suck major ass! nothing can ever satisfy any of you. there is ALWAYS something wrong with everything...

...whatever, like i give a damn about any of you! i for one think this suit looks really awesome that i would totally wear it for halloween!...
BmanHall - 10/25/2011, 9:06 AM
OMFG I WANT IT!
NOLANITE - 10/25/2011, 9:08 AM
@miguelis: its cuz youre a queer. who's complaining? its fine tuning people are talking about.
Mago - 10/25/2011, 9:08 AM
WOW! This is a 100 times better than the crappy nolan suits! Only the blue should be black
Cross - 10/25/2011, 9:08 AM
lol! looks ridiculous. It's badass in the game and it can look badass IRL too but they got it all wrong. the whole looks like an action figure.
Fantine - 10/25/2011, 9:08 AM
Love it. Make a Catwoman one!
miguelus - 10/25/2011, 9:10 AM
@nolanite yes i am a queer, thanks for clarifying that for me. i just noticed that some people saying they should change this and that. why can't they just leave it the way it is because it looks cool as hell...
Jordanstine - 10/25/2011, 9:10 AM
I know it's based on the video game, but I would certainly lose the panties.

Should be bigger. Batman is huge in the game.

THIS is a Batman I'd like to see onscreen:

@trudy, he opens the sun roof, loves the wind thru his ears
miguelus - 10/25/2011, 9:15 AM

BackwardGalaxy - 10/25/2011, 9:17 AM
Seriously, make this movie now.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 10/25/2011, 9:17 AM
Looks, good. But can you turn your head? As much as people like to shit on Nolan's suit, I still find it the best suit ever put on screen. It was well explained, and has great functionality.
astromerc - 10/25/2011, 9:17 AM
lol! @Miguel
BmanHall - 10/25/2011, 9:17 AM
The cape and cowl could be a slightly darker shade of blue. Could just be the lighing. Other than that, this costume is perfect. Anyone bashing it doesn't know what the [frick] they're talking about.

RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 10/25/2011, 9:19 AM
Also I will always argue that if Batman is portrayed on the big screen his cowl needs to be some sort of military grade helmet. Let's be real here, one shot to the head on that suit, and Batman is toast.
sideshow06 - 10/25/2011, 9:21 AM
It's cool and all. If I had any gripe it's the cowl being too tall and narrow. But whatever. I just think it's pretty hiliarious how they took it so fricking seriously: "Also the cross texture of the entire suit must be included and it has to run synced up on all panels as the game suit does, so that all lines intersect at an X throughout the entire suit." WTF? *snicker*
sexfoodcomics - 10/25/2011, 9:21 AM
That is an amazing suit I would love to wear that for Halloween
Fogs - 10/25/2011, 9:26 AM
@miguelus - you'll notice that the badges are either:

- some stupid [frick]in troll
- someone with a strong opinion, that some don't understand
- a mix of the previous 2
BIGBMH - 10/25/2011, 9:27 AM
Hell yes! That's awesome! I would love to see a gray suit in a live action movie, in this is a good start.
Fogs - 10/25/2011, 9:29 AM
JonathanisMagnum1985 - I don't think Wayne being strong would give anything away. It all depends on the story and how close one character is from the other.

Same with Superman. I have no problems with the glasses. The problem is to put Clark always in the same place where Supes is.
roach - 10/25/2011, 9:29 AM
holy hell thats the suit I want in the movies
JDUKE25 - 10/25/2011, 9:35 AM
ThaMessenger07 - 10/25/2011, 9:37 AM
The costume would look awesome on Hugh Jackman........I want this costume!
WaylonJones - 10/25/2011, 9:38 AM
I don't think the guy that is wearing the costume is doing it justice
miguelus - 10/25/2011, 9:38 AM
@aklash i'm sort of new to this thing, so thanks for letting me know what it means...
valeriesghost - 10/25/2011, 9:40 AM
damn, that looks incredible.

but i agree, the ears are a bit to long
spidey1994 - 10/25/2011, 9:41 AM
That's awesome!
