Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson's Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following.

Sweet! Looks just like I imagined it while reading the book. Well, almost.
spiderneil - 11/14/2011, 6:43 AM
it's the running man but with kids instead of arnold.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
RorMachine - 11/14/2011, 6:43 AM
The plot has been done many times, it's more like Battle Royal than Running Man..which also uses kids. Doesn't mean it won't be good though. Jennifer Lawrence is great, the rest of the cast..dunno. I think I saw the dude playing Peeta in something that he didn't suck in.
RaleighAntrobus - 11/14/2011, 6:48 AM
People like this stuff... ? This sh*t looks hella lame.
Bandrews1 - 11/14/2011, 6:50 AM
This looks awesome, I definitely can't wait to check it out.
nailbiter111 - 11/14/2011, 7:01 AM
i just spoiled it by reading wikipedia for all three books. i'm naughty.
RorMachine - 11/14/2011, 7:03 AM
Intruder, that's lovely. How old are you again?

Nail, I did the same. Aaaand, it sounds pretty uneventful. But I know you can't tell from reading those break downs.
Ceejay - 11/14/2011, 7:04 AM
In my shop it's probably one of the biggest selling teenage books after Harry Poyter and the Twilight series. Should do well as a movie!
spiderneil - 11/14/2011, 7:04 AM
@ intruder

'butter face'

I know the expression means ugly but why 'butter'? is butter ugly?
why not 'cheese face' or 'milk face'?
Ceejay - 11/14/2011, 7:05 AM
*Potter (I do miss the correction option on this site)
RorMachine - 11/14/2011, 7:10 AM
I'm not mad. You're just a nasty git!:) And blind too evidently

bropous - 11/14/2011, 7:16 AM
Enjoyed the first book, will be interested in seeing this movie. Trailer looked pretty good.

Isn't there a demotivational poster somewhere for "Butterface"?
Richardness - 11/14/2011, 7:17 AM
I've never read the books but this looks interesting at least. Are they the type of books where its not totally lame for a 22 year old man to sit down and read it?
bropous - 11/14/2011, 7:17 AM
And Ror, you are a whining leftist douche. So we all have standards.
bropous - 11/14/2011, 7:21 AM
tea, the character isn't supposed to be a dripping-hot beat-box bird. I think they cast this girl rather well for the role.

Richardness, it's your call whether the books are lame. Lord of the Rings this ain't. Entertaining read, goes quickly, and better than a lot of crap that is out there. I happened to like it, you may not.

And SteveRogersSon, of COURSE the story is derivative. It's rather hard to find ANY fiction that isn't derivative of something that was written before. Change names, locales, and a few details, and you may have the next "Twilight" runaway hit.
TheWingedWonder - 11/14/2011, 7:22 AM
I might check this movie out, it looks alright.
RorMachine - 11/14/2011, 7:34 AM
Bropous, leftist? No, sorry asshat I don't lean towards any side..I actually have a brain you see.
BIGBMH - 11/14/2011, 7:34 AM
Not sure how this relates to Twilight at all aside from the age of its central characters. They didn't even show the action yet so, it makes no sense to criticize that. I swear, some of you are way insecure when it comes to anything related to teenagers. Some of you are probably the same people who were hyped for Conan because it's about a big muscular guy. Why don't you people wait and see before you start hating and making yourself sound like trolling douchebags?
whatevillurks - 11/14/2011, 7:41 AM
Worse paramilitary goon squad uniforms EVER!
RorMachine - 11/14/2011, 7:43 AM
Tea, do you lie on it first to make it numb? or do you find that the unfamiliar is enough to allow you to pretend it's me:)
RorMachine - 11/14/2011, 7:48 AM
Speaking of chest hair, I found a couple of grey ones the other day. Quite depressing actually.
comic2004 - 11/14/2011, 8:03 AM
Shit movie!!!
valeriesghost - 11/14/2011, 8:09 AM
I enjoyed the books, the movies should be fun.

i like the casting with Lawrence, Kravits and Harrelson, not sure about the 2 male leads. Chris Hemsworths brother looks like a douche.
valeriesghost - 11/14/2011, 8:12 AM
@ror and Tea, the moment i find a grey pube i'm gonna be really depressed. nobody wants old man balls, no matter what Gusto says
TerminatorMode - 11/14/2011, 8:13 AM
looks ok but i feel like the pacing on a movie like this might be terrible - i thought battle royale did a good job of keeping things constantly happening
airbeyonder18 - 11/14/2011, 8:36 AM
I don't know what is wrong with you guys but I think this looks awesome.
13echo - 11/14/2011, 8:51 AM
Everytime I hear mention of this I think of "The Crying Game".....hope its nothing like that!
gambgel - 11/14/2011, 8:53 AM
it was intense, at least for me.

some great momments on the trailer, specially the one where Jennifer reacts to her sister being choosen, the same as the last part, the beggining of the real game.

The music was on point, I loved it.

some weird costumes, specially for the gamers, but I cant wait to see this (I read the first book, so Im excited, lol)
soaponapope - 11/14/2011, 9:21 AM
I loved battle royale, so I will definitely be seeing this
claybo4131 - 11/14/2011, 9:43 AM
Looks very faithful to the book, should since the author, Suzanne Collins, wrote the screenplay for it and had final say in casting.

This trailer is pretty much the first half of the book, they just show them in the arena running to the Cornucopia, where most of the supplies are and where most of the deaths occur.

It looks just as I imagined from reading, though it might be different since the novels are in 1st person from Katniss' point of view. For example, Seneca Crane, who is played by Wes Bentley, is mentioned but does not have a line in the book. He is the Gamemaker, he designs the arena, as in what the setting is, can change the progress of the setting during the game, all that.

Donald Sutherland & Woody Harrelson are perfect in their roles. Stanley Tucci with blue hair looks like a trip (He plays the Ryan Seacrest like host who interviews the Tributes) as well as Elizabeth Banks' getup as Effie Trinkett.

LEnny Kravitz was the most controversial choice to play Cinna, Katniss' stylist. Still trying to picture Lenny kind of "fruity" for that character.

And for those who say it is the next "Twilight" tell me from this how this looks like Twilight at all?
miguelus - 11/14/2011, 11:38 AM
...i don't quite understand how people are comparing this movie to the running man and battle royale. aren't those two movies all action packed, bloodied up and gory?...
superman7 - 11/14/2011, 12:14 PM
@ spiderneil:

Everything's good "but her face"...
Sounds like butter face
tweeeeenkies3 - 11/14/2011, 1:01 PM
EPIC.EPIC.EPIC!
Best book ever...will now be best movie ever!
I can't wait!
tweeeeenkies3 - 11/14/2011, 1:02 PM
I bet most of you have never even read the book...Don't judge it until you actually read it.
marvel72 - 11/14/2011, 1:43 PM
looks alright,i bet battle royale is better.
Moonwalker1991 - 11/14/2011, 1:54 PM
People'll make anything nowadays if its based on a book, especially.
headlopper - 11/14/2011, 3:09 PM
Didn't the ancient Romans do this already?
Rome leads, the world follows...even to this day.
Bartman87 - 11/14/2011, 5:43 PM
Read the books you neanderthals so tired of hearing the Battle Royale comparisons it not since I've read both and while they have some similar themes they are two different stories plus if anything the gist of the story have been taken from other places.
Bartman87 - 11/14/2011, 5:43 PM
plus this movie is going to rock
ninzen - 11/14/2011, 6:21 PM
Every time I read the comments on a lot of these articles two things jump out at me nearly every time.

1st: A general sense of disdain and apathy for anything that is outside of the "norm".

2nd: A lot of bitching about how something is just like some other story (ie, the norm).

Sounds like there are just some miserable people on here.

I have read the trilogy and I really enjoyed it. As in I couldn't put the books down.

I was concerned when I saw Jennifer Lawrence was cast as Katniss, because in the book she's only 16 years old, whereas JL is in her early 20's.

Some of the early photo's I saw had me VERY concerned, because it appeared they were not getting the vibe of the environment and setting right.

However, now that I've see the trailer I have changed my mind. Most of the settings, outfits, and locations looked almost as I imagined them as I was reading the books. This is definitely one movie I am really looking forward to.

As for those of you who complain about one story being just like some other story, either accept that stories are going to be repeated or get off your butt and write something original yourself.
bropous - 11/14/2011, 7:32 PM
"Sounds like there are just some miserable people on here."

ninzen, truer words were NEVER spoken!

I have to agree. The trailer fits a lot of the visualizations I had when reading the book (and I have yet to read books #2 and #3). I really liked seeing Katniss grab the backpack from the pile near the Cornucopia, and the trailer ending there. VERY nice tease.

And tea, apparently you didn't pull out of the missus EVERY time since you have the young 'un....

And that's okay, Ror. I'm a MAJOR douche myself, and it takes a douche to recognize a douche.

Just the two of you wait. Grey pubic hairs, not a big deal. Plucking nose hairs? THAT'S a big deal. Ask Gusto!
bropous - 11/14/2011, 7:46 PM
comic2004: Shit post!
BIGBMH - 11/14/2011, 7:48 PM
@Tea, I'm not taking it that seriously. Personally, I've never read the book and don't really know if it's a good story. I just find it silly how so many people here jump to conclusions so quickly.
EditNinja - 11/14/2011, 10:24 PM
Okay. Let me know when there's a DVD rip on the torrent sites.
