While doing press for the blu-ray release of The Dead Poets Society actor Kurtwood Smith sat down with MovieWeb to talk about voicing Lieutenant James Gordon in the new animated TV series Beware The Batman. Smith said they have only recorded two episodes and reconfirmed that it is an early Batman story. He also said he doesn't expect for the series to be out for at least another year.

Said Smith

"We just started. We've only recorded two, before Christmas. I like the general thrust of the show. It's early in the Batman story. Commissioner Gordon isn't even Commissioner yet, he's just Lieutenant Gordon. He doesn't trust Batman, even though they kind of end up helping each other out on an early case. Batman, in a lot of ways, is learning his way, and the relationship between he and Alfred is developing. It's fun and it's kind of straight in that regard, as opposed to being campy. I think it's going to be good, but it won't be out for at least a year or so."

The series is being described as a CGI animated series that will spotlight a classic-looking Batman teaming up with a gun-toting Alfred Pennyworth and a female ninja sidekick named Katana. There has been no scheduled release date for it at this time, but like Smith said be on the look out for it in the next year or so. Keep check CBM for updates on the show.

I read the info on the wikipage for it, I just can't believe at how WRONG this show is doing it....Alfred is a gun toting butler and Katana is going to be his sidekick instead of Robin. The character design looks like a worse version of the Green Lantern CGI cartoon. I would prefer more Brave and the Bold, that show is at least pretty fun and full of many fun cameos. They needed more Zatanna though. This is sad when CGI animation is becoming the forefront, I truly prefer hand drawn animation, I don't mind when they add in CGI elements, but those should be left to well designed vehicles. I hope we don't see Disney do this with the Marvel characters they now have control of. I hope Disney Marvel Universe sticks with 2D animation
Denn1s - 1/17/2012, 12:04 PM
sounds like ''The Batman'' in CGI...
Denn1s - 1/17/2012, 12:05 PM

BlueMex - 1/17/2012, 12:09 PM

RunDTC - 1/17/2012, 12:10 PM

grifter - 1/17/2012, 12:13 PM
Why? Do they not get what we want? Bring Batman Beyond back!
awesomem131 - 1/17/2012, 12:16 PM
DC milks Batman more than Marvel milks spiderman, wolverine, and deadpool combined.
spiderneil - 1/17/2012, 12:17 PM
he's best known for robocop
GUNSMITH - 1/17/2012, 12:17 PM
THIS GOING TO BE LIKE CLONE WARS SERIES? I THINK IT MIGHT BE COOL, JUST STAY CLEAR OF CAMPY.
jessepostal - 1/17/2012, 12:18 PM
I hope he shows his face in the new robocop!
AiyalKilU - 1/17/2012, 12:18 PM
Just air reruns of BTAS instead of trying and failing with this new age stuff that never works.

Poor Kurtwood Smith, one of the greatest villains of all time (Clarence Boddicker) to voicing Jim Gordon in a Batman in world knockoff
joeker - 1/17/2012, 12:22 PM
judging by the picture the animation looks like it will be done on a etch-a-sketch
i wont be looking forward to this
OdinsBeard - 1/17/2012, 12:23 PM
wtf is that teaser supposed to be? Pig-Face? The Frogger?
jessepostal - 1/17/2012, 12:24 PM
To scifi n 80s action geeks he's best known from robo, but the rest of the world it's that 70s show, relax people
WaylonJones - 1/17/2012, 12:26 PM
Don't knock Zima Bombs till you try them old man
headlopper - 1/17/2012, 12:27 PM
Sounds superlative...means I'm constipated...and that I like the concept of this cartoon.
Dedpool - 1/17/2012, 12:29 PM
Personally I liked the take "The Batman" took on both the characters, and history. The changes didn't feel too out of place as they worked for the story. This just sounds bad, but Kurtwood Smith as Lt. Gordon works for me.
NextHero08 - 1/17/2012, 12:36 PM
Batman Begins: The Animated Series...WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE A [frick]ING ORIGIN STORY!!!!!!!!! [frick] MAN OF STEEL, [frick] SPIDERMAN, [frick] ALL THIS SHYT!
Spidey91 - 1/17/2012, 12:38 PM
@Denn1s
I agree.
Batman is awesome and everything, but isn't Supes supposed to be DC's flagship character?

hey DC,enough of Batman, give me more Superman.
6of13 - 1/17/2012, 12:40 PM
I vote that Gusto use a pic of Kurtwood for his avatar
soberchimera - 1/17/2012, 12:40 PM
@grif I gotta agree with you. That's Clarence [frick]ing Boddicker.
jeremySee - 1/17/2012, 12:41 PM
Commissioner "Red" Gordon: So...you dress like a BAT and intend to wage a ONE-man war on crime. Riiight. DUMBASS!"
jeremySee - 1/17/2012, 12:42 PM
"Can you FLY, Batty?"
jeremySee - 1/17/2012, 12:43 PM
Kurtwood Smith rules.
alucard365 - 1/17/2012, 12:49 PM
Will we ever get a HBO Spawn type Batman series. ):
xXkryptoniteXx - 1/17/2012, 12:52 PM
Not interested in this crap, I only clicked it because the title "beware of the batman" and it's with red. The picture is horrible. This show well end bad and who the he'll are does in the background??? And Alfred as the gun dude, get out of here. No more batman WB. Bring on some superman, flash, green arrow let the world know you have some other cool characters. This is why we get more marvel fans cause WB doesn't attract people who don't read comics.
AutobotCommander84 - 1/17/2012, 12:55 PM
I don't know why they canceled The Batman in favor for The Brave and the Bold, but so far this is looking better than The Brave and the Bold so I hope it does well. And Kurtwood Smith as Commissioner Gordon? [frick] YEAH!
RobinNumbah6 - 1/17/2012, 1:07 PM
the only thing i like about this is that its batman, and mr. pyg
AC1 - 1/17/2012, 1:09 PM
shit adaptation, shit idea, shit animation, shit execution, shit sidekick, shit design, shit concept, shit everything.

Why can't we just have a straight up Batman animated series, no gimmicks, no kiddy cookie cutter crap, no shitty CGI, just traditional, hand drawn animation. Something worthy of following in the footsteps of Batman: The Animated Series, instead of this kiddy shit. Alfred with guns? Sure... Right... Batman's butler/surrogate father (who now has a Justin Bieber hair cut) openly and often uses the type of weapon that killed his parents. Sure that'll go down well with the Caped Crusader. And as for Katana... what a load of shit! Some random japanese girl, dressed sorta like Nightwing, carrying an over-sized katana (see what they did there? She's named after the sword!)... again, for a hero who doesn't ever condone killing, Batman's sure picked some interesting back up in this series.
AC1 - 1/17/2012, 1:11 PM
hey oldworm! 'good' has no 'e' at the end of it. stupid, this is why keyboards should only be used by humans, not worms.
valeriesghost - 1/17/2012, 1:16 PM
ugh^^

anyways, i'm getting kinda tired of Bats. Use to love 'em, but [frick] me, he's everywhere... Give it a rest already
Jefferys - 1/17/2012, 1:22 PM
Oh dear. This is like they took a shit on Batman. I mean, honestly, what f**k is this sh*t!?
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/17/2012, 1:24 PM
Gotta agree with grif and soberchimera61

That is Clarence Boddicker!

KNIGHT3000 - 1/17/2012, 1:27 PM
I thought Katana was a villain. Batman sure has more shows than Maury Povich and X-MEN combined. When will Superman get another show? A really good 1.
UncleDrew - 1/17/2012, 1:31 PM
This television show looks STUPID
antonio - 1/17/2012, 1:38 PM
Woodsmith played one of the past 30 years in Robocop and he was awesome on That 70s Show. He might be the ONLY reason I tune in. Other then that, ans I have to quote Grif: "Looks shit".
ATOMbomb - 1/17/2012, 1:41 PM
Well I was excited about this but no now..of course though its batman so I will have too have a look see
Clayface27 - 1/17/2012, 2:04 PM
I miss hand drawn cartoons....that and batman has been overused time and time again. I think if they make another show it should be either a lesser-known character like maybe Wildcat or Green arrow. They could do cameos of the big heroes like superman, batman, wonder woman, and green lantern. This is going to end up doing to DC comics what the new clone wars show did to star wars.
SkateandDestroy88 - 1/17/2012, 2:23 PM
MM looks kind of lame.
lanternstorm - 1/17/2012, 2:32 PM
completely dis-like...absolutely detest cgi animation when it comes to comic animation... def. prefer 2d animation... I think they should go with a new Justice League animated series done in more of a Jim Lee type style... I could see a Justice League animated series having maybe 3-5 episodes per season where the whole league is together fighting a villain and the rest would be Brave and the Bold like episodes... say maybe focus a couple on team Batman and maybe a couple on team superman then GLC and maybe the World's finest or Trinity or whatever... have actual story arks that last a few episodes and then have one main story ark that lasts the whole season.
