Ryan Reynolds Says DEADPOOL Will Have No Connection To X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE

Ryan Reynolds sat down to promote his newest movie Safe House when he was asked about Deadpool. Reynolds reiterated the fact that it needs to be R rated and said it is no the same Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

IGN talked with Ryan Reynolds, who was doing his press rounds for Safe House, where they asked him about the Deadpool movie that has been taking forever to develop. Reynolds said, once again, that the film has to be R rated and that this version of Deadpool will not be the same Wade Wilson from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. They also asked him about the status of Green Lantern 2, but like previous answers he just said it wasn't up to him.

On Deadpool:

"The script, I think, is fantastic. It has been developed even further in the last three months or so. The film has to be rated R, and it has to be done a certain way, it has to do all these things that I am sure can worrisome for the guys cutting the checks for it. So if it's going to be done, it needs to be done right. It will actually have no connection to the one that was in Wolverine."

On Green Lantern:

"I have no idea (On the chances of a second Green Lantern). Those movies have huge scale budgets and those kinds of thing. Working in budget world like that is not fun, because you have a lot of investment and outcome. But if we end up doing a Deadpool movie that could be a lot of fun. Having the opportunity to do it rated R would be the budget would have to be down enough where you can afford to take big risks and do most things that superhero movies can't do yet."

Just make it & make it right. [frick]ers
Celenco - 2/28/2012, 7:14 AM
Is Grif growing up? His comment is more thought out or is this just a fluke?
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 2/28/2012, 7:14 AM
I would like it to have no connection with Ryan Reynolds, but in the words of the Rolling Stones, "You can't always get what you want."

MarsivNayr - 2/28/2012, 7:15 AM
I think what Grif should be saying is, "What was the point of X-men Origins: Wolverine?"
plasticman - 2/28/2012, 7:17 AM
I don't understand how Punisher, Blade, and Ghost Rider can be made and have sequels and they don't even have the draw that Deadpool would.

They need to stop playing pocket pool with their ideas and start production ASAP!

It will make money, mark my words! Kids old enough to know who Deadpool is will find ways to sneak into this movie and us adults will definetly be warming the theater seats and eating the popcorn as we watch what could be one of the greatest action movies in a long time unfold in front of our eyes.

If they are worried about not making the almighty dollar from merchandising then make merchandise and toys geared toward adults!
TheIconicMan - 2/28/2012, 7:18 AM
I'm relieved. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a crap movie... Everybody knows that.
MercMatt - 2/28/2012, 7:18 AM
Gah! Less talk, more Deadpool!
Sanderman - 2/28/2012, 7:18 AM

TheDesertGorilla - 2/28/2012, 7:20 AM
Reynolds makes shit CBM's, hope he just isn't involved at all anymore.
bhorwith22 - 2/28/2012, 7:23 AM
Thats kind of funny. The same actor playing the same character. One would assume it would be in the same universe, however loosely connected it may be.
MisterNiceGuy - 2/28/2012, 7:26 AM
Ryan reynalds and cbm's dont mix. they better make this movie right or I'm going to hulk smash the shit out of justin beiber
valeriesghost - 2/28/2012, 7:27 AM
Sean William Scott? Hmmm, i could see that...
BlanketMan - 2/28/2012, 7:29 AM
Just like GHOST RIDER 2 had no connection to GR1. Such silliness. If it's the same actor playing the same character... sorry, it's a sequel! Hopefully, Reynolds is referring to the Deadpool at the end of Wolverine (which was the only time he was called "Deadpool"), as the Wade Wilson at the beginning of WOLVERINE was easily the best part of the movie.
Jolt17 - 2/28/2012, 7:33 AM
Agreed...Seann William Scott, or Jensen Ackles or Devon Sawa could be cool, too.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 2/28/2012, 7:35 AM
I agree with Sean William Scott. He was hilarious in Role Models and Goon.
MisterNiceGuy - 2/28/2012, 7:35 AM
And I gotta say. I have the deadpool soundboard on my android, I can't picture Reynalds saying any of it and being funny. SWS is a better choice IMO
zerakis81 - 2/28/2012, 7:38 AM
Make a new, good GREEN LANTERN movie........
Cheesehead - 2/28/2012, 7:40 AM

JaySchluffy - 2/28/2012, 7:46 AM
If it has no connection to Origins then shouldn't someone else be playing Deadpool?
Linta - 2/28/2012, 7:48 AM
SOUNDS INTERESTING
KNIGHT3000 - 2/28/2012, 7:49 AM
More of the same, I hope this does happen soon. If not Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool, MarkPaul Gosselaar. I actually think Gosselaar would be better, but Reynolds got it 1st.
satanors - 2/28/2012, 7:49 AM

Zarog - 2/28/2012, 7:59 AM
I just want everything to revert back to Marvel Studios. The other studios have done mostly bad with the movies. Everything that hasn't been X-Men or Spider-Man related has not been all that good. Even in the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises there are some stinkers. DD, Elektra, Hulk, FF, and GR were all terrible.
Mysterion - 2/28/2012, 8:03 AM
@ Zarog: Agreed 100%
tomasocelot - 2/28/2012, 8:09 AM
um no reynolds. remember he is just plays the annoying guy. if you find a really good actor, like say ryan gosling. if its well written he could pull off the craziness and one liners.
nailbiter111 - 2/28/2012, 8:13 AM
What a LOAD OF SHIT! No Connection? Seems like there is one pretty big connection to Wolverine ... You, Mr. Reynolds! Recast!
thaonly1guly - 2/28/2012, 8:26 AM
Mark-Paul Gosselaar for Deadpool!!!
satanors - 2/28/2012, 8:26 AM
No.... My profile date says i had this avatar first.
breakUbatman - 2/28/2012, 8:32 AM
Screw Deadpool I'm over this Reynolds guy can we have a new CBM franchise instead please, I'd kill for an Iron Fist movie right now.
Tainted87 - 2/28/2012, 8:34 AM
@NoRegrets
Two movies a year is perfect. Any more over time would over-saturate the box office, and then Chris Evans would star in a movie called "Not Another Comic Book Movie"

Speaking of Chris Evans... did you guys suddenly stop getting tired of him? As I recall a good number of people here figured he was seriously miscast as Cap, but as it stands the complaints around here are only about his costume in the Avengers.

This one has appeared in five CBMs, two of which were related. Yet we are tired of Ryan Reynolds?

Anyway, I think it's going to suck big time. I like Deadpool, but it all depends on the script, and if he has two dozen truly lame jokes/one-liners to tell (as opposed to "Wolverine" where he only has screen time for two), then there's not a whole lot that can save it.

Edgar Wright needs to direct it, period.
Dedpool - 2/28/2012, 8:34 AM
Well I'm glad the script is still being worked on, and Reynolds is still lobbying for it hardcore!Right on man!!
thaonly1guly - 2/28/2012, 8:48 AM
@Tainted87
You're not alone man I still think that Chris Evans was miscasted as Captain America hence why I still have not watched the movie and probably won't.

I have nothing against the guy but when you see somebody play a clown all the time it kind of hard to take them seriously...especially when they play an iconic comic book character like Captain America.

I always viewed Capt. America like I view Batman...always serious and about taking care of business. So for me they were way off when they casted Chris Evans as Capt. America.

It's like casting Zachary Levi as Batman!!!
StrangerX - 2/28/2012, 8:59 AM
If not Reynolds the only other actor i would get wold be

Jensen
Jensen Ackles Pictures, Images and Photos
mstaley3000 - 2/28/2012, 9:16 AM
An R rated Deadpool solo movie is not a good idea. He doesn't have a large enough fan base to make money as an R rated movie. In fact, I am not convinced he has the fan base to pull off a solo movie at all. Some characters that have been around decades longer and have had their own solo titles forever have only had small success on the big screen. Neither Punisher movie made money (Punisher made its production budget but not the promotion budget). In fact, Punisher: War Zone is probably the best indicator of where Deadpool would end up or perhaps Watchmen should Reynolds star power be more of a draw although Watchmen couldn't make its production budget back domestically and even with its overseas take failed to make its promotion budget (rule of thumb, to make a profit a movie has to bring in at least twice its production budget). If Deadpool is made, it will have to be budgeted at less than 60 million.
