Zack Snyder Not Interested In Directing STAR WARS

Some big names have been thrown out there to direct Disney's next Star Wars franchise, well now you can take one name off that list. Check out what Zack Snyder had to say about not wanting to make the commitment to the upcoming trilogy.

Zack Snyder is a busy man. He is putting the finishing touches on his upcoming Superman outing, Man Of Steel, and if it is successful he could be back for a sequel. Ever since Disney announced that they will be doing another set of Star Wars movies a lot of people have thrown his name out there as a possible director. While chatting with the LA Times, Snyder said he isn't interested. “I don’t think I’d be interested in directing it. I’m a huge ‘Star Wars’ fanatic. I just think doing episodes seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It’s a whole other mythological experiment I’m excited to see, but it’s a lot of effort,” he said. Now this is no way shape or form confirmation that he was even offered the job. Once again with his busy schedule with Man Of Steel, a long with potential sequel, it would come as no surprise that he wouldn't be interested.

The recent rumors on the Star Wars film is that Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher are open to coming back and exploring the universe. While Matthew Vaughn is rumored to have left X-Men Days of Future Past for the new trilogy. However, Mark Millar said earlier this week that Vaughn leaving X-Men was due to him wanting to get out a movie version of Secret Service with him. In any even, make sure you check back here at CBM for the latest on Star Wars as it happens.

His style wouldn't fit SW anyway, although if the MOS footage seen so far is any indication, he doesn't have any trouble adapting and changing his style. Still, keep him on for MOS sequels if MOS itself turns out good. I also think he'd be a great choice for a JL movie.
toco89 - 11/8/2012, 1:21 PM
@Gordon

What do you mean by his style wouldn't fit SW?
jimpinto24 - 11/8/2012, 1:31 PM
Zack Snyder would be good choice to helm Star Wars:Episode 7, but he is busy working on MOS.Zack could helm Episode 8. I say Peter Jackson would be a good choice to helm Episode 7.
DarthTesla - 11/8/2012, 1:33 PM
I am a fan, but not my first choice to direct the new chapter.
BigEars - 11/8/2012, 1:34 PM
I like Snyder's style from 'Dawn of the Dead' more than his more stylised films, admittedly the whole '300' visual style does suit certain films, but with 'Watchmen' it just didn't do it 4 me... Long story short, he could work, but hell dude's clearly taken himself out of the running, n frankly that's good in my book; if the 'Man of Steel' comic-con footage is any indication he looks sets 2 impress so I wouldn't even mind him helming the League somewhere down the line too

Best news I've heard all day.
Funsize - 11/8/2012, 1:41 PM
He wouldve been pretty good for Star Wars but I like where he is with Man of Steel.
drellik - 11/8/2012, 1:45 PM
based on his quick response towards episode VII, i'll bet he's already geared up for MoS sequels and/or JLA.
FoxForce5 - 11/8/2012, 1:45 PM
Whatever. I doubt the same director would helm the new trilogy anyway. More likely that it'll go the way of the original trilogy with a different team on each film but Lucas overseeing the whole thing since they did say he'd still, pretty much have that roll as long as he's up to it.
dailycomicsfix - 11/8/2012, 1:47 PM
LOL!!!! In a nutshell..."its too much work"
DCjohnny - 11/8/2012, 1:47 PM

@GordonShumway: Yes right, I agree you 100% by like said "keep him on for MOS sequels if Mos itself turns out good. I also think he'd be great choice for a JL movie".. It's a good point!.. I'm so glad Zack Snyder not going to be join the Star War film. I really hope he get new job in JL movie and keep MOS sequels someday.
ScottPilgrim - 11/8/2012, 2:05 PM
Best news ever, him directing Star Wars would be horrible!!!
thewonderer - 11/8/2012, 2:06 PM
That awkward moment when people start insulting the director of the most anticipated CBM of 2013
Nomis1800 - 11/8/2012, 2:31 PM
He should focus on MOS trilogy :P together with Nolan of course.
DarthBob - 11/8/2012, 2:34 PM
That's a huge win for Star Wars fans everywhere! Snyder sucks!
Spideyguy94 - 11/8/2012, 2:37 PM
@thewonderer that's actually iron man 3 at the moment, the jury is still out on MOS it might change after the next trailer but as it stands iron man 3 is the most anticipated CBM of 2013 among the general audience because of the trailer it had and the avengers
JorL5150 - 11/8/2012, 2:43 PM
TRANSLATION:

i WILL agree to do itin six months, with the original williams' score revamped by hans zimmer.
hueyfreeman - 11/8/2012, 2:48 PM
of course synder wouldn't be interested, there'd be no opportunity to stick in slo-mo fight scenes.
jingorot - 11/8/2012, 2:57 PM
i don't get the hate for the guy.

i think he's a pretty good director. the thing is you have to manage your expectations. he makes entertaining popcorn flicks with slick action scenes. and at that, he's fantastic. anyone hoping to find a new citizen kane amidst his work will of course be disappointed.

with a script from nolan's team to deal with the story/character stuff, i think man of steel would be brilliant. for star wars, he could've been decent depending on the script. but no big loss if he isn't up for it.
darkmetal - 11/8/2012, 2:59 PM
I dont think they asked. But if they want to do Jedi's in Superhero costumes after the Jedi turn Superhero Im sure they'll call him.
rocky - 11/8/2012, 2:59 PM

I like Snyder but his hands are full plus if MOS is huge I'd wager WB taps him for the JL film
Giznad - 11/8/2012, 3:11 PM
yeah, cuz Suckerpunch ruled, right? No one even likes Superman. Not in my generation. The coolest thing about him was his death in '92. But Christopher Reeves was great.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 11/8/2012, 3:17 PM

No one asked him.

Jollem - 11/8/2012, 3:18 PM
snyder gots skillz
jingorot - 11/8/2012, 3:27 PM
@Giznad

"No one even likes Superman. Not in my generation."

speak for yourself, bud. superman is still one of the top selling comics. even a terrible, terrible film by bryan singer out-grossed batman begins simply because of the name 'Superman'.

making general statements like that makes you look like an ignorant little shit.
Emjeed - 11/8/2012, 3:28 PM
IDK why everyone is on him.. the man just clearly stated that even he himself knows he's not good for the job. That's respect for the material. That's a fan. Cos he's not gonna touch it and ruin it. and respectfully puts the rumors out by being very frank about it. Some directors will be interested simply for the money that comes with it. Its refreshing when a director is this honest anout his capabilities.
Emjeed - 11/8/2012, 3:31 PM
@Giznad What are you smoking? did you see the fans at comic con?
Spideyguy94 - 11/8/2012, 3:33 PM
@jingorot well said dude
Spideyguy94 - 11/8/2012, 3:37 PM
@gizand you remind me of those idiots who thinks its cool to say things like 'superman sucks because he's gay' Moron
indigobolt956 - 11/8/2012, 3:39 PM
@GordonShumway ya i agreewhole heartidly also how are the tanners?
GUNSMITH - 11/8/2012, 3:51 PM
IT'S BIGGER THAN JUST VISUAL SPECTACLE....HE WOULD BE WRONG FOR IT.
Supernature - 11/8/2012, 3:56 PM
LMFAO

Thank God. Who the [frick] would want that ?
marvel72 - 11/8/2012, 4:36 PM
don't know if zack snyder would of been the right choice,i have mixed feelings over his movies.

very good

watchmen ultimate cut
300
man of steel(maybe)

average

sucker punch
cgi owl movie

@ thewonderer

man of steel isn't the most anticipated comic book movie of 2013 for me.

1st thor the dark world
2nd iron man 3
3rd man of steel
4th kick ass 2

its only your most anticipated movie because nolan has worked on it.
silverdog - 11/8/2012, 4:52 PM
so the new star wars is not gonna be half music video, half slow motion?..... excellent news.
fistofthenorthstar - 11/8/2012, 4:55 PM
Well if Zack can't do it, bring in Antoine Fuqua!
jasonicus - 11/8/2012, 5:02 PM
I like Snyder but he would be terrible for a film like this.
thewonderer - 11/8/2012, 5:13 PM
marvel72

Thor 2 and IM3 will be the same exact thing. They won't do anything influential or be a game changer.

MOS is being creative, and taking a chance with a radically different approach to a CBM.

I personally enjoy the inner turmoil being the main opponent concept. Its interesting, very much something to relate to.

Marvels films? Hey you bad guy! lets fight!

So anticipated
Wildebeast5162 - 11/8/2012, 5:28 PM
@ wonderer.....did you really suggest that cbm's should be movies primarily about inner turmoil and then pick on marvel for having super villians for their super heroes? Are you sure you are a comicbook fan? Thousands of pages of characters that have super abilities but mostly battle angst and inner turmoil are called twilight. Wonderer must be a 15 year old girl. Super heroes battle villians and evil cadres and massive alien attacks. Hey who needs the joker or zod anyway?
Spideyguy94 - 11/8/2012, 5:31 PM
@thewonderer you don't know what's gonna happen with iron man 3 and Thor:TDW because we haven't seen the movies yet, and since when have all marvel films been 'hey you bad guys lets fight'? And MOS will most likely be about Clark trying to find his place in the world not 'inner turmoil' you're judging movies before they're even out and talking like you think your some sort of professional critic, pull your head out of your ass and grow up I honestly think your about 15 years old
Giznad - 11/8/2012, 5:34 PM
Oh wah wah you nerds. The modern day audience doesn't give a crap about Supes anymore. Sorry. Thor succeeded cuz there is a modern tinge to it. Besides the blonde hair, Thor was a mythological character before Marvel. The movie wasn't a powerhouse like Superman 1 or 2, but Thor at least talked about science to make it modern. I don't hate Supes, Batman seems to be the antithesis of him and is ruling the world. But Superman is just a couple of colors away from being Santa Claus. I'm sorry if I "offended" you guys. I'm sure your retorts are much more intelligible than mine. Asses.
thewonderer - 11/8/2012, 6:02 PM
I'm the 15 year old?

The ONLY reason and I mean ONLY reason marvels movies besides Iron Man, the only really fantastic one, are praised is because of the shared universe. They aren't accurate at all either.

Imagine a shared universe full of all Iron Man level quality films. It doesn't happen because marvel plays it safe

I just don't understand why everyone gets so hurt at me taking a different approach.

People here legitimately argue for comic book accuracy (Barely btw) over film quality.

I'd take QUALITY of a film over comic book accuracy anyday. Before anyone makes the jab "no wonder you like Nolan's Batman", get off my back. I find them more accurate than any of marvels movies. [frick]ing sue me if you want

This is why First Class shits over everything marvel besides Iron Man

You want to call me a vaughnite now? How about comicbookqualnite?
DioFoRio - 11/8/2012, 6:55 PM
more than an edit button .... we need an ignore button...every time I see a comment from wonderbread..You're worse than what's her tits from Misery, I hope Nolan never runs into you in a dark alley. And A BIG preemptive FUG YOU Shout out to Blueflamekid..Keep reporting and doing what you do son!
Jimdlux - 11/8/2012, 9:04 PM
Thank God!!! At least there is a chance it will bee good!
ATrueHero1987 - 11/8/2012, 9:27 PM
^^^LMFAO!!
jingorot - 11/8/2012, 9:53 PM
@Giznad

yep, it's confirmed. yer trollin', bro.
i'm sure garnering petty attention on the internet, no matter if its good or bad, makes you feel great about your sad, pathetic life. keep going. i won't spoil all the joy you must be experiencing right now.
pepe - 11/8/2012, 11:20 PM
