Geoff Johns Says That If AMAZON Happens Wonder Woman's Name Will Be Diana

Late yesterday a report surfaced that showed The CW Networks was planning on moving forward with their proposed Wonder Woman Pilot tentatively titled, Amazon. The show is said to be focusing on Wonder Woman's days on Themyscira, before she becomes the great hero everyone loves. In the report casting directors are looking to cast the main character, which in most cases isn't a big deal. However, the report said the main characters name is Iris NOT Diana. Fans have immediately shown their dislike for the move, which prompted DC CCO to do a bit of damage control on Twitter.

So there you have it, no need to panic quite yet. Fans have still been in a little bit of an uproar, because they want DC to focus on a Wonder Woman movie, rather than a TV show. With DC looking to move towards a Justice League movie in 2015, it will be interesting to see exactly how they would handle a movie Wonder Woman and possibly a TV Wonder Woman. Ok well at least that's good.
GetsugaTensho22 - 11/30/2012, 8:49 AM
There should not even have been a need for Geoff to tweet this. It's common sense that Productions use false titles all the [frick]ing time. It's as if Comic fans are becoming stupider by the day! I'm ashamed to even call myself a fan now, because of these low IQ twats!
dnno1 - 11/30/2012, 8:54 AM
It should be on Showtime or HBO, though, and be a little more risque and violent IMO.
PsyGuy - 11/30/2012, 8:55 AM
Avoid speculation??

OHHH so Iris is that other Amazonian warrior being adapted for the CW... -_-

If it helps connect a teen/family market, who has practically lost all interest in Wonder Woman, I say, "it can't be a bad idea if done right. Anything that they can do to bring these characters into the public conscious and make them relevant again is a good idea."

Wonder-girl

He also said GL would be good...
SageMode - 11/30/2012, 9:07 AM
Oh great, AMAZON the SMALLVILLE version of Wonder Woman. Smh............
Dev7 - 11/30/2012, 9:09 AM
But it's not only the name of the character that's the problem. The synopsis of the show doesn't relate to the character's background at all. Why hasn't Johns tweeted about that?
xstryker - 11/30/2012, 9:10 AM
Awesome.
Dev7 - 11/30/2012, 9:11 AM
Forget about the name for a second, WTF is this shit?

According to the breakdown I’ve obtained, her name is Iris. “She comes from a remote, secluded country and until now has spent most of her life as a soldier and a leader on the battlefield. Because of relentless brutality of her life at home, Iris looks at our world with absolute awe and astonishment. She’s delighted and just as often horrified by the aspects of everyday life that we take for granted: skyscrapers, traffic, ice cream. It’s all new and fascinating and sometimes slightly troubling to her. Iris is completely unschooled in our world, our culture, our customs. And she’s completely inexperienced at interpersonal relationships. She has no social filter, does not suffer fools, and tends to do and say exactly what’s on her mind at all times. She’s bluntly, refreshingly honest. She can tell when you’re lying to her. And she doesn’t have time or patience for politics or tact because she’s too busy trying to experience everything our world has to offer. There are too many sights to see and things to learn and people to care for. Hers is a true, noble, and generous heart. And she will fight and die for the people she loves. Iris is a fierce warrior with the innocent heart of a romantic and she will fight to the death to make the world safe for innocents and true romantics everywhere.”

Well at least Geoff Johns has some sense over how a Wonder Woman show should be made.
lntrn8 - 11/30/2012, 9:24 AM
i want to believe this project will work.

WB has a lot of setbacks in the minds of fans, and we will always compare their progress with Marvel Studios.

They gotta start hitting many things out of the park, not just from the Batman franchise.
Nomis1800 - 11/30/2012, 9:27 AM
I'd rather see a Wonder Woman film made by Nicolas Winding Refn with Christina Hendricks as Diana!!!
Funsize - 11/30/2012, 9:46 AM
Better than nothing
HitGirl13 - 11/30/2012, 9:47 AM
Not really sure why they wanna do a Smallville version of Wonder Woman. Doesn't make alot of sense to me.
KeeperoftheKrackle - 11/30/2012, 9:59 AM
this show sounds more like the Conan than Wonder Woman. A warrior from uncivilized lands comes to roam through civilization with awe. The last Wonder Woman they tried didn't work out great but at least that was a Wonder Woman show. not Ms. Conan
JDUKE25 - 11/30/2012, 10:01 AM
Who cares, it still sounds stupid.

Make the freakin movie!!
edwardshiro - 11/30/2012, 10:03 AM
Phoebe Tonkin (H2O, The Secret Circle, The Vampire Diaries)

6of13 - 11/30/2012, 10:14 AM
^^^I concur with Froggy
edwardshiro - 11/30/2012, 10:29 AM
Phoebe Tonkin is perfect to play Wonder Wonder...

Tony93 - 11/30/2012, 10:30 AM
@Froggy
As do we all Froggy.. as do we all..
Tony93 - 11/30/2012, 10:35 AM
how tall is phoebe
edwardshiro - 11/30/2012, 10:47 AM
5' 10" (1.78 mts)
Super12 - 11/30/2012, 11:13 AM
Told you. Anyone who freaked out about that and thought they would actually name her Iris is an idiot. Use your brain, people. And that wasn't a synopsis of the show, just a casting call description.
Super12 - 11/30/2012, 11:26 AM
Since the idea of accepting the belief that Greek gods exist is difficult for most audiences to get on board with, has anyone considered giving it the Thor treatment? Instead of actual gods, Zeus, Ares etc are just extremely powerful aliens who the Amazons (themselves aliens with ancestry similar to Kryptonians) worship and believe to be gods. It would be hard but they could walk the fence on that issue and only allude to them being aliens without really saying yes or no. It's a thought, cause we don't know how WB plans to address the mythical and magical part of DC comics yet
SugarYumYum - 11/30/2012, 11:37 AM
Well its actually pretty embarrassing he had to clarify this to fans lol.
Vadakin - 11/30/2012, 11:48 AM
@super12 I don't see how it would be difficult to accept the Greek gods existence. I like Thor but the last thing they should do is go down that road. DC/WB need to embrace the mythological aspect, not run away from it. Audiences will accept it if it's good. Imagine changing Harry Potter so that the magic was just advanced science...it just doesn't work.

Let there be an Olympus and an underworld and a Themyscira. Let Diana go toe to toe with Ares and Hades, let her fight gods and monsters, not cosmetic companies. Also, screw the New 52's "Zeus' daughter" angle. Let her be made from clay. Greek mythology in a contemporary setting with a badass female lead. It's really very simple.
Minghagz - 11/30/2012, 11:51 AM
WW needs a movie now. The TV show has already been done and it's been attempted to be done again.

Utilize the New 52 as a foundation for a movie.
JohnnyKrypton - 11/30/2012, 12:17 PM
"Lets get one thing straight. Johns is a hell of a writer."

Johns may be an imaginitive, successful COMIC BOOK writer, but as a writer in the literary sense...nope.
Jer3miah - 11/30/2012, 1:22 PM
Uh... [Before] she becomes WW? Doesn't that remind anyone of an abominable show by a certain red cape-wearing hero who starts off in Kansas?
redlion - 11/30/2012, 1:44 PM
Geoff Johns doesn't inspire the greatest of confidence in this project. I just wish they would scrap the television idea all together and make a WW film.

Optimus83 - 11/30/2012, 2:40 PM

P.S: PLEASE PHOEBE TONKIN MARRIED ME???. ...I LOVE YOU MAMASITA RICA, KISSES FROM CHILE
marvel72 - 11/30/2012, 2:41 PM
cw you are gonna destroy all dc characters on the small screen.

-superman aka smallville = crap

-green arrow aka arrow = average,i probably won't watch it again unless deathstroke turns up again.

-wonder woman aka amazon = who knows a smallville version of wonder woman

next

-batman aka gotham

-aquaman aka the sea
SkaarJones - 11/30/2012, 2:49 PM
Sweet! I was like who tf is Iris???
Amanda Latona?

blackster - 11/30/2012, 3:42 PM
lol as if 'iris' was the only problem with this concept.

[frick] warner bros and their incompetence at handling major superheroes.

guardians of the galaxy and ant-man are getting their own film, while one of the dc's trinity scrapes by with a shit tv show.

and geoff johns is a talentless piece of shit yes-man. [frick]KKKK him.
rubbish78 - 11/30/2012, 4:17 PM
I'll give this show a chance but I don't have high expectations for it...
CeltiC527 - 11/30/2012, 4:53 PM
@LEVITIKUZ Well Johns is DC's Chief Creative Officer so he of course he will be involved with DC in probably every type of media. And I don't see that as a bad thing. He studied media arts, screenwriting, film production and film theory in college and also worked under Richard Donner so I would say he is qualified. The stuff he's written like episodes for Justice League Unlimited, Smallville, Robot Chicken, Arrow, and even DC Universe Online have all been pretty good. And he was only a executive producer for the GL movie, NOT A WRITER, so we don't really know what he did but I think he was just used as a reference for them.
unknownfacts - 11/30/2012, 5:06 PM
Smallvile wasn't a bad show just 5 seasons to long, Green Latern had great CGI just lacked a deccent plot line and believebale charactor developement, and Jonnah Hex was a really underrated moive. WB isn't doing a bad a job as people would have you to believe. It's just people want the same thing rehashed over and over.
