Laeta Kalogridis And Patrick Lussier Hired To Script The Next TERMINATOR

A new report has just surfaced online that says Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier have been hired by Skydance to pen the script for the next installment in the Terminator franchise.

Deadline is reporting that the next Terminator film has writers. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier have been tapped to tackle the next Terminator film, that will hope to see Arnold Schwarzenegger back. Megan Ellison bought the rights to the Terminator franchise a while back, and has enlisted the help of her brother, David, and his company Skydance to bring the future project to the big screen.

Kalogridis' has a long and successful list of writing credits including Avatar, Shutter Island and Alexander. While Lssuier has had his share of writing assignments too with Wes Craven’s Dracula and My Bloody Valentine. No word on when they hope to start production or a release date. Schwarzenegger has stated his desire to do another Terminator film, but recently has been frustrated by the lack of progress on the film. This however, could be the shot in the arm the production needs to get him on board. For the latest on the goings on of Terminator, check back here at CBM.

I was with them until they said Arnie. Seriously, why would Skynet make old terminators. Oh, camaflage, I suppose. Okay, then.
This should continue on from Salvation, though. It should end with John Conner sending Kyle Reese back in time to 1984, so that we can have a reboot set up, directly after it.

I would welcome Arnold back, regardless. However, I'd rather see him as a human, than a Terminator. Maybe do a story about how they used him as the basis for the 101/T800 design, but he escaped and this story involves him at his current age. Making him an aged Terminator wouldn't be the way to go to me.

I think they want Arnie in it as a supporting character & not the actual Terminator. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a grizzled veteran or the war in the future or as a friend or maybe even the father of Sarah Conner who is trying to protect her along with Kyle Reese from a T-800 (who sports some upgrades from the 80's version!) in a reboot.

Now that I think about it making Arnie Sarah Conner's father would be a great way to get him in the movie, him & Resse try to protect her & then he dies at the end & that can be one of the reasons that Sarah turns into such a badass for the sequel! And they should keep her as a regular, normal, everyday woman & not some instant soldier as soon as the Terminator arrives, that's one of the things I loved about the first 2 movies is the change of Sarah Conner from the typical 80's "screaming woman who trips over everything" into female freedom fighter who is protecting her child.

Either keep going with Bale as Jonn Connor or just leave it alone and definitely no Schwarzenegger as he is too old. Salvation wasn't bad and had some good ideas that with good writers and a director a sequel could be class.

Have John and the Resistance have a D-Day facing the Terminators and uncover Skynet's plan to send Arnie back in time. We'd finally get the action robot war we've seen glimpses of in T2 and T3 and a sick fight with Bale and Arnie. End it with the Resistance falling and the human race merely extinct. Thus, making John send Kyle back in time.

Except that John Connor led the resistance to victory over Skynet. They had won and that's why Skynet sent the Terminator back in time to kill Sarah Connor as a last ditched effort to prevent John Connor from being born. So the resistance sent Kyle Reese to stop the Terminator. Of course they supposedly destroyed the time machine after they sent Kyle, so who knows?

I said this before, Bale would reprise the role.. Find an old hermet who lives dorment in a cave and turns out it is Arnold. He tells Bale that they used his DNA when he was at a young age, but he escaped somehow.. Now years have past and Arnold is aged..
They both fight against younger looking Arnolds..

this is why I love this site. all your pitches for this script are all jus awesome. This is what makes the Terminator story so good, you can go so many different ways with it.

She bought those right a WHILE ago, and spent quite a bit of money doing so. It's just now occurring to her to get a script written?

I wrote a script just for fun a long time ago. John Connor and Kyle Reese trap a squad of endos led by a new Cyborg T-800. The squad is destroyed but the T-800 is brought back to the base for study.

When it is brought back to "life" under John's orders, it kills him. Kate Brewster then takes over the rebellion and reprograms the T-800 to guide them to Skynet's time displacement device. So yeah, that's a retcon, but [frick] it. It's time travel.

The entire thing would take place in Cameron's future war and actually show what we have only gotten glimpses of in the previous films.

I should find these [frick]ers and email them the script. They can use as much as they want from it, just put my name on the screen somewhere.

fettastic@ copyright it first. If it doesn't work out, you could save it for the next time they talk about a Terminator film. Or you could put it up in fan fic, so we can all read it. I'd spend a couple of hours or so reading that, for sure. But, like I say, copyright it first. Best way is to join the writers guild, but that costs, and they'll put a serial number on it. You could also mail it to yourself a couple of times and not open it. That's good for getting an official date put on it and it'll stand up in court, if it comes to it.
Also, it's best to have an agent do the script sending as producers pay more attention to that. In fact, if you don't have an agency send them the script, they will just throw it in the bin, without reading it. But, if it's just the writers you're sending it to, then I suppose you don't need an agent. But you do need to copyright it or they'll just steal all the best bits and not even give you a credit.

i think because a Terminator has living skin then there should be no issue with older looking terminators because the skin would age

i want another terminator movie. i cant get enough of them. bring back bale as john connor and have arnold be a terminator and make him look young like they did with xavier and magneto in the last stand. if they make a 6, thats when you send kyle reese back in time and then defeat skynet once and for all

I think The Rock should be in this movie as a new model of the T-800 or something. He would be an awesome successor to the Terminator Legacy. Also, this franchise really really needs James Cameron back.

SN: Arnie could be a supporting player. I dig the idea of him as a cool grizzled futuristic veteran. Like Wolverine in Days of Future past or something.

@DukeAcureds, I've looked into finding an agent, but few of them represent scrrenplays. And most of the ones I've sent a synopsis to have returned it unopened. A couple have even sent it back return receipt.

One girl did actually read it (this was a different script, you can read it here if you like http://studios.amazon.com/scripts/22124) and she got back to me and asked if I had any scripts starring children because she had a need for that. I quickly brainstormed a concept not unlike The Grey but with a family (this was like 4 years ago so it seemed novel then). I'll never forget her response. "Do you have anything WITHOUT decapitations?" Ha ha ha. She wanted to do something like an after school special and I just can't write like that. Anything else I would have at least tried just to get a shot.

This script I linked to actually got a great reaction from Albert Pyun (Captain America, Nemesis, Cyborg)of all people. And his producer loved it. I actually consider her somewhat of a friend. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, they don't do Iraq war dramas. They do vampire titty films.

But yeah if anyone here has any connections, please read the first 3 pages or so of my script. If I haven't hooked you by then I've failed, but so far everyone who's read it has enjoyed it all the way through.

But anyway this Terminator script is not completed. It's probably 1/3 of the way through. It's up until Kate gathers the rebels and starts off with the T-800 on the way to Skynet. There's a B story of Skynet capturing soldiers and experimenting on them too, and I wrote that years before The Sarah Connor Chronicles essentially did the same thing.

T3 gets a lot of shit. But I thought it was a good ending to the trilogy. I recently watched all of them to see if I would like Salvation...not so much. The third could have been better in the overall production but story wise, it was good. It ended on such a downer. While Salvation was a good looking movie, I just couldn't get past all the glaring contradictory writing ...I mean once they catch Reese knowing he's Conner's father and don't kill him ,I turned it off.
