The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 reviews are in. Most critics are praising the animated twist on Frank Miller's epic tale, with some even going as far as calling it the best Batman movie live action or animated. However, one complaint still arises with fans. Branch out and do more animated movies not based on Batman or Superman. While speaking with Crave Online at the premiere for The Dark Knight Returns Part 2, some of the crew revealed which characters/stories they would like to see adapted, and what will be much to fans dismay, most of them are Batman stories.

Bruce Timm:

"Birds of Prey or a solo Catwoman movie, something like that. I don't think we could get either of those. We wouldn't sell enough units unfortunately. The math doesn't work. So honestly that would be something that I would love to do. Well actually I'll amend that, for instance the Killing Joke has come up for conversation several times in terms of possibly doing an adaption of it. We have come really really close to green lighting it, and then somebody gets cold feet and says, 'ah I don't think the world is ready for this yet'. But you never know someday."

Jay Oliva:

"I'd love to do an Arkham Asylum kind of adaptation. That would be kinda cool. Long Halloween would be great! Actually, Gotham by Gaslight, I think we could do that movie as one movie.

Andrea Romano:

"I would like to see a Nightwing story. A full big ol' Nightwing story. I think it's a fascinating character and I've never really worked on a project that really expanded that character. To more than just a guest here and there."

Additionally Peter Weller, who provides that voice for Bruce Wayne and Batman in The Dark Knight Returns, said that he would like to see a Black Hawks movie. Fans have been begging for an adaptation of The Killing Joke, with Mark Hamil adding fuel to the fire by saying he would end his self imposed Joker retirement to do it. Fans do get to look forward to Superman: Unbound and Flashpoint later this year, so for the latest on those two movies, check back here at CBM.

I picked up part 2 day of release, and I have yet to watch it. I really enjoyed DC animation, so I'd be up for anything. If they do go with Arkham Asylum adaption, they HAVE to get Conroy and Hamill. That is a MUST!
007michael - 2/1/2013, 7:43 AM
Oh and I would LOVE to see Killing Joke done.
MarkJulian - 2/1/2013, 7:43 AM
Yes! Make it so Adrea Romano!
Dev7 - 2/1/2013, 7:57 AM
So only Batman and Batman related animated stories they will like to do a movie for huh? So DC doesn't have any other characters?
dezdigi - 2/1/2013, 7:58 AM
Gotham by Gaslight should be good material for a one-shot animation film. That's the first time I've heard that story suggested by any of the crew.
Killing Joke is a hard sell for sure.
Also, it's hard hearing the cold truth from Timm about why they can't use lesser known characters. Perhaps, they should do an anthology with about 6 or 7 shorts, each 20 min long. All they have to do is paste Batman or Superman on the cover, squeeze them into a few of the stories and it should sell.

All fantastic ideas really, but I'm definitely going to have to go with Andrea's idea. :D
Rhino4508 - 2/1/2013, 8:02 AM
Nightwing would be awesome! as well as The Long Halloween. Come on now let's stop talking about it and make it happen.
silverdog - 2/1/2013, 8:04 AM
I would by a nightwing, catwoman, or birds of prey movie over another superman animated movie.

dezdigi - 2/1/2013, 8:07 AM
I would even settle for something called "Tales of the Batman" or "The Superman Anthology". It could feature characters with ties to Batman, for example, with him guest starring in a few of the stories. Sort of the way the did with the Green Lantern:Emerald Knights release.

They won't stop making Batman movies, want to know why? Cause Batman is their biggest seller. I know it sucks but that's just how they see it, unless something drastically changes won't be seeing anything other than Bats and Supes from DC for a while.

hatrick3 - 2/1/2013, 8:57 AM
I've always wondered if the Andrea Beaumont character in Phantasm was a tip of the hat to Ms. Romano.

Anyway...I know alot of people think there's too much Batman and I would like to see more of other characters myself. Still Killing Joke or Long Halloween would be awesome.
YourMomsFavorite - 2/1/2013, 9:01 AM
Justice League Dark as well...
YourMomsFavorite - 2/1/2013, 9:05 AM
But def Kingdom Come, think a new gods darkseid movie would be great!
aresww3 - 2/1/2013, 9:42 AM
You must be kidding guys, no ones pissed off abou the fact they aren´t doing birds of prey. Bruce Timm has gone up in my estimation. So annoying.

1. Kingdom Come 2 part
2. The Circle: Wonder Woman
3. Some Flash stuff, whatever it is.
4. Martian Manhunter: Updated Origin, enough Batman and [frick]ing Superman already.
5. Batwoman great comic.
plasticman - 2/1/2013, 9:50 AM
There is a reason that I assumed the name Plastic Man...to bring relevance back to this character. The only character that cannot be destroyed. The character with a million possible points of articulation. The one and only Plastic Man needs his own time to shine.
m0th3r - 2/1/2013, 10:06 AM
Gotham by Gaslight would be neat, but i really want other characters...
HRDWYR - 2/1/2013, 10:10 AM
DKR P2 - Did anyone not like the fact that they cut about a 1/3 out of the story which included other chars thate were important to the story??? I mean the real WW was in there, the Atom, the Flash, & Robin takes on a Catwoman outfit. If youre gonna make a two part disk set, include the entire story. Oh well, it was still good to watch.

-just my two cents-
DangerRoom - 2/1/2013, 10:10 AM
Mark Hamil has stated that he would only return as the Joker again if they do The Killing Joke. Get on it!
bundyse - 2/1/2013, 10:11 AM
I love these films BUT i'm getting fed up with them being only Batman/Superman/Justice League.

It is time for other Superheroes stories to be made.

Teen Titan, The Flash, Nightwing (only) the list is endless.
MatchesMalone - 2/1/2013, 10:30 AM
@plasticman- Agreed 100%! Love me some Plastic Man. I own the cartoon series, the JLA action figure, and the entire Kyle Baker run. Plas needs some love!

@HRDWYR- You're actually thinking of "The Dark Knight Strikes Again". Totally different graphic novel. While it is a continuation of the original story, it is a completely seperate entity.
Azrael725 - 2/1/2013, 10:42 AM
Killing Joke and Gotham by Gaslight would be awesome!
OverfiendB - 2/1/2013, 10:56 AM
Dr Fate or Lobo!!! if Batman KILLING JOKE but a different animation style then dark knight returns more darker & grittier style!
dezdigi - 2/1/2013, 11:15 AM
Our only hope is if they do other characters in live action, we may get animated features with those characters as well.
