James Gunn Thanks Cast, Crew, Fans And More For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Confirming that he's already hard at work on the highly anticipated sequel, James Gunn has sent out a touching thank you message to fans, moviegoers and those those behind and in front of the camera who worked on critical and commercial hit, Guardians of the Galaxy...

Thanks to all of you who saw (and are seeing) Guardians of the Galaxy this weekend, from the bottom of my heart. The Guardians are a group of oddballs, outcasts, and geeks. The movie is for anyone who ever felt cast aside, left out, or different. It's for all of us who don't belong. This movie belongs to you. And, today, I think we're doing okay.

I am of course happy with all the film has accomplished box-office-wise. But what touches me the most is that the film I told the folks at Marvel I wanted to make two years ago is the film that you're seeing in theaters today - it's that so many of you seem to be directly EXPERIENCING the film I INTENDED. The cast, the producers, the crew, and I felt like we were making something special while we were making it. But it is very rare that a director's INTENTIONS in creating a film, or a scene, or a character, or a line of dialogue are, seemingly, specifically what is experienced by an audience (not to mention critics!), and that seems to be what has happened here. You have allowed a talking raccoon - for a moment, a minute, or a day - to make you a little more human. And for that, I am profoundly grateful.

If I relied on myself to implement these intentions, the film would be a shambling mess. But instead, I had a wonderful cast, genius producers, an incredibly brave studio, sublimely talented visual effects artists, great editors, and the best damn crew of mostly-British bastards to actually implement these intentions for me. Where I had a good idea they would, through alchemy, transform it into a great one. Many of you involved are friends of mine on Facebook. Many of you will read this somewhere else. I love you all.

You may remember me posting here a couple weeks ago how sad I was to be finishing up the film, that I was having trouble letting go of Rocket, and that I was going to miss him. But seeing him (and Groot, and the rest of the team) embraced by the world like they have been, to be UNDERSTOOD, makes it a wonderful letting go. It's like giving a foster pet up for adoption to the most wonderful parents in the world.

And, of course, I'm not really saying goodbye as, while many of you have been enjoying the film, I've spent this weekend hard at work on the sequel. I couldn't help myself! The results are nice but it's really the creative process I love and that keeps me going. I'm on fire with this thing! The Guardians have so many hardships and heartaches and triumphs ahead of them, and I can't wait to share them with all of you.

Onto week two...

Love, James

It's not hard to see how much James Gunn cares about both the characters in Guardians of the Galaxy and those who have supported the movie this weekend, giving it August's highest biggest opening of all-time in the process. There's no getting around the fact that this was always a risky project for Marvel Studios, but putting their faith in the writer and director really paid off and we're now left with one of the best comic book movies ever. The impact of Guardians of the Galaxy also can't be ignored, as its success could very well lead to the studio moving forwards on the likes of Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Regardless, thank YOU James Gunn...

Whatever James Gunn, now we're all just standing up and praising this film like a buncha jackasses!

:)

I may be seeing this film for a second time today, but I'm not sure yet. Basically, I hardly ever see films at the theater a second time (or a first time for that matter if it's not something I care too much about) because the closest theater to me is almost two hours away, but I need to head out to the city to pick up this table set, so I figure I'd see the film again while I'm there so that I don't have to go on this huge drive just for a ten minute stop.

No, thank you James Gunn. I haven't enjoyed a movie this much since Marvel's The Avengers. Marvel is doing something very special right now.

This movie was the perfect storm. I knew it was going to be special. You can feel the beating heart of this film.

Just saw the film and it's [frick]ING AWESOME!!!! This is probably my favorite MCU film. I just have a few complaints, but that doesn't hurt the film at all. I thought the Nova crops had superpowers? Not enough freaky looking aliens and not enough John C. Riley are my only complaints.
MexicanSuperman - 8/3/2014, 11:14 AM
Howard the Duck FTW!!!!

THANK U Mr Gunn..your visions and passion for these characters has what has made this film great..i hope u bring that same passion for the sequel and i hope The Russos and Whedon bring their passions for their films as well and i especially hope both Peyton Reed and Scott Derrickson bring their passion to Ant Man and Doctor Strange respectively and give us two good, if not great films
EzioKenway1225 - 8/3/2014, 11:22 AM
i think it was Sebastian Stan who said but he said like people remeber 80s action movies or Star Wars or Indiana Jones from the 70s and 80s in terms of pop culture...people will rmeber Marvel that way in this era and i hope that is true and i hope Marvel keeps on giving us good films
AlexanderLykins - 8/3/2014, 11:25 AM
You could just tell this was going to be so special. It is pure joy and fun.

EzioKenway1225 - 8/3/2014, 11:28 AM

Batmaniac - 8/3/2014, 11:28 AM

AlexanderLykins - 8/3/2014, 11:31 AM
James Gunn already working on the sequel?

kinghulk - 8/3/2014, 11:31 AM
to the people complaining about the nova corps most of those we would have seen in the film would have been the lower corpsman and maybe millennian ranks. http://marvel.wikia.com/Nova_Corps_(Earth-616)#Ranks
TheBlasi - 8/3/2014, 11:32 AM
I still haven't seen the film, because I live in Spain (which it will be released in August, 15). But still, super-mega hyped to see the movie.
ChowdaHead - 8/3/2014, 11:32 AM
Thank you gunn for making gamora a plot device and drax an underpowered bafoon. Give these characters to someone who can write a a filling script, like JOSS!
kinghulk - 8/3/2014, 11:32 AM
i just mean that there's a reson they wherent all flying around like richard rider. i was disappointed that (as far as i saw) not a single corpsman used the blasters on their arms.
AsgardianHobo - 8/3/2014, 11:33 AM
Passionate, awesome guy!

gaikinger - 8/3/2014, 11:35 AM
Great movie packed with heart.
AlexanderLykins - 8/3/2014, 11:35 AM
Just sitting her with all these feels. It's like when people find their soul mate. Sure, they have their flaws, but you love them even more because of it. It's hard not to get romantic about his movie. It was made with so much heart.

Alright, Marvel fans and/or movie fans in America. LISTEN UP. The weekend estimates for Guardians of the Galaxy report it opened up $94 million, but, while we are at it, let's try to get it to make an extra $1.1 million dollars to beat Captain America: The Winter Soldier's opening weekend record by the end of the night, so Guardians can gross $95.1 million in its opening weekend a a the second best opening of the year and Marvel Studios best opening of 2014. It might not beat Transformers 4, well, maybe it could if it pulls an Avengers surprise, but it might be able to beat Captain America 2's opening weekend record, if we continue to keep it up. SO, C'MON GUYS. DONT STOP, KEEP GOING. HURRY BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. LET'S DO IT.
AlexanderLykins - 8/3/2014, 11:36 AM
And make no mistake, this was his movie.
MarvelFan15 - 8/3/2014, 11:36 AM
And, I'm going again to see it later at 10 in. IMAX 3D with May dad and my brother.
MarvelFan15 - 8/3/2014, 11:37 AM
And, I hope in the sequel, Howard the Duck gets a major role.
Maestro - 8/3/2014, 11:37 AM
Still 92% on RT and 8.9 on IMDB. Truly deserves this.
TheBrownHornet - 8/3/2014, 11:38 AM
Going to see it again today. Can't wait!!
AlexanderLykins - 8/3/2014, 11:39 AM
CrimsonFlash - 8/3/2014, 11:42 AM
The movie is awesome. Marvel killed it this year.
MrMartinMarvel - 8/3/2014, 11:42 AM
Haven't see it yet, but if what I've heard is true, then you're welcome Mr Gunn.
ALegendaryPanda - 8/3/2014, 11:42 AM
The wait for this movie was almost unbearable. But man.... it was worth it!
EzioKenway1225 - 8/3/2014, 11:44 AM
God,I just hope Peyton Reed and Scott Derrickson can bring the same level of enthusiasm or maybe more for both Ant Man and Doctor Strange and give us two good films
