COMICS: Marvel Releases First Look At AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1

This October, the Marvel Universe prepares for the biggest battle its ever faced, and we have a first look at Avengers & X-Men: AXIS #1 for you right here as Rick Remender is joined Adam Kubert for an epic conflict that will require the Avengers and the X-Men to stand together like never before...

From the ashes of Avengers vs. X-Men, rises a new threat. the Red Skull – a monstrous force of evil, now possesses the extraordinary mutant gifts of the late Charles Xavier. Exploiting the powers of the world’s most powerful telepath, he has amassed an army and broadcasts his message of hate across the globe. Residing in the once proud Mutant nation of Genosha, he has enslaved thousands of mutants in his bid for world domination.

“This is the big one,” says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “Super hero comics at their biggest and boldest. With the powers of Charles Xavier, the Red Skull is the biggest, baddest villain in the Marvel Universe. Rick’s story is massive and will touch all corners of the Marvel Universe in new and interesting ways.”

All that stands in the Red Skull’s path is the fragile alliance of Avengers and X-Men. Even united, they may not be enough to stem the coming darkness. Earth’s last hope hinges on these fractured squads fighting as one. But as the Age if Inversion looms upon us – have they already lost?

There’s a fine line between good & evil. Find out how thin as the battle commences in AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1!

So...we're still doing the world shattering 'event' followed by toughest fight ever 'event' followed by obligatory 'event' number 67 to sell comics? No more stand alone stories just event followed by event? This is why I stopped reading marvel during Fear Itself, it's simply too much. No more stand alone stories; no more heroes doing their own thing.

@OdinSon2k14 Thor didn't get a gender change. Thor is still a man. He just lost his hammer to someone who was more worthy than he. This time, it was a female. He doesn't have the powers his hammer gives him, although he is wielding a Frost Giant ax I believe, but he is still doing the super hero thing with the Avengers. He just doesnt't have his hammer.

@OdinSon2k14

From my understanding Thor, Future Thor and the female Thor will appear in the solo comic kind of how they've been telling the story since the relaunch with three arcs in three time periods. Unworthy Thor will still be in the Avengers books he's been appearing in, he'll just have Jarnbjorn instead of Mjolnir. Clearly he'll get his hammer back at some point. Maybe a year or two. But the ace looks pretty wicked and I bet he won't be holding back anymore.

Sam Wilson/Captain America looks badass in the pic.

Is it RedSlaught, OnSkull, or Skullslaught?

Either way he looks dangerous and menacing as hell.

Redslaught sounds... dirty. And Onskull sounds like a car app (onstar). So I'm going with Skullslaught.

Redslaught that's [frick]ing awesome. i hope this story doesn't blow. some of Remenders Uncanny X-Men was blah. and is it me or does every arc now supposedly effect the entire marvel universe

They tried to get like every single Cap costume into one for Sam (Regular Cap, Director Steve Rogers, Bucky Cap, and Falcon) and it looks like a mess.

Plus that picture would be way more meaningful if it was Steve.

Oh well.

Skull deserves a thousand deaths for what he did to Xavier. Here's hoping he gets it!

@ScionStorm

No, that is "Jarnbjorn", which was Thor's first enchanted weapon. He made it about a thousand years ago and anointed it with his own blood. It was made for the purposes of cutting through Celestial armor/weaponry. He made it so that he could kick Apocalypse's ass.

@Shadowmaster35

Red Skull didn't kill Xavier. That honor goes to one Scott Summers (Cyclops). Skull DID, however, implant Xavier's brain into his own body (shouldn't that have had an effect on the Skull as, technically, it IS Xavier's brain?)

@Loki668 I know he didn't kill him I was referring to the desecration of his body, cutting open his head, and stealing his brain and subsequently using it to target and kill mutants. TEN THOUSAND DEATHS!
loki668
loki668 - 8/31/2014, 11:08 PM
@Shadowmaster35

I'll settle for nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine deaths. As long as they're all horrible!
