Last year, Thor kicked off the blockbuster season by opening up at #1 with $65.7 million and eventually grossed $446 million worldwide. In The Avengers, the God of Thunder returns and actor Chris Hemsworth said this about his return in the superhero ensemble. "Thor has conveniently come back to earth briefly because Odin summons dark powers from the universe and it’s very costly. He’s come back to retrieve Loki, who’s running madness on Earth and causing a lot of chaos. He also has some questions of his own he wants answered like, ‘How did this happen and where did I and my brother go wrong?’"

"In ‘Thor’ my character learned a whole lot about humility and gained a new respect for humans because they were able to help him discover who he needed to become in order to earn his powers back," he adds. "I also think he feels very protective of humans now because of his relationship with Jane. Joining The Avengers team is also tricky because he has a personal investment in that his brother Loki is the one who’s causing the chaos and he fears that the others may just want to kill him instead of just stopping him and taking away his powers."

Marvel Studios President and executive producer Kevin Feige explains both Chris Hemsworth and Thor's importance in the film. "The reason we cast Chris Hemsworth is we didn’t want Thor to just be a one dimensional Adonis-like character. What makes a character a Marvel character is that you can relate to them and recognize your own flaws and struggles in the characters’ flaws and struggles. In ‘Thor’ the character has to learn the lesson of humility and Chris was able to bring that in a very likable way, despite the fact that he comes from another world."

This had better not be a joke.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 4/1/2012, 10:51 AM
So Anthony Hopkins is in the movie? Yeah I agree with RexBlazer I think I'm going to stay off this site today. It's not worth it with all these lame April Fools Jokes going around.
Fuckyoutrolls - 4/1/2012, 10:52 AM
Odin summons dark powers.... WTF
superotherside - 4/1/2012, 10:56 AM
Hmmm... Josh this isn't an April fools joke is it? If not (if it has one) could you give the source in a link?
angus666 - 4/1/2012, 10:59 AM
Wtf does that mean? Sounds kinda stupid if it's real. I really hope the Movie is good though. I hope they can make it work.

This is 100% real (just like the rest of the interviews I've been posting). :)
superotherside - 4/1/2012, 11:05 AM
Josh I figured, just wanted to make sure. ;)
superotherside - 4/1/2012, 11:08 AM
I'm sure the "dark powers" are something which will play out in Thor 2? Enchantress perhaps? What ever it is I'm sure it'll be great. So don't worry about it guys... keep calm... :)
95 - 4/1/2012, 11:08 AM
I guess the "cost" of summoning this dark power will lead into the threat Thor faces in THOR 2.

Any guesses?
JoshWilding - 4/1/2012, 11:08 AM
I have a feeling that this means we MIGHT get a brief Anthony Hopkins cameo, although I'd say that it's far more likely that Thor just appears and explains how he returned. Hopkins doesn't seem like the kind of actor who you would ask to make a 30 second appearance...I hope I'm wrong though, especially if this decision has ramifications in THOR 2.
rockerdude22 - 4/1/2012, 11:09 AM
If this is true, I wonder what these so called "dark powers" are? Maybe Odin accidently unleashes something and that sends Thor back to Earth? Maybe these "dark powers" are what the plot of Thor 2 is about. But anyway, in case this is a joke, I don't want to get too wrapped up in it.
95 - 4/1/2012, 11:10 AM
@superotherside

Damn, you said it before me. Enchantress sounds about right.

@Ironman53

They could of filmed Anthony Hopskin's part in the film at the same time as Principle Photography for THOR.

Ironman53 What's your twitter? I'll be sure to follow you. ;)
95 - 4/1/2012, 11:11 AM
Didn't Hopskin's come back for "reshoots"?
95 - 4/1/2012, 11:13 AM
@JoshWilding

Yeah, Marvel could go the "tell not show" route and have Thor explain how.
RedSkull667 - 4/1/2012, 11:14 AM
*Someone* steals infinity gauntlet from Odin's vault :)
superotherside - 4/1/2012, 11:14 AM
3D Yeah, I was just thinking that this could actually be a really great thing that people were starting to freak out over... lol... I agree also it could be that they filmed some of that in Thor decided to have him not be able to return in Thor and use it in Avengers. Much like the Captain America possibly lengthened Times Square and gym scenes.
DylansMyDog - 4/1/2012, 11:17 AM
Could he have misspoken and said Odin when he meant Loki?
Whoisstanlee - 4/1/2012, 11:20 AM
Pretty sure that didn't say how he got back... Just why.
NeoBaggins - 4/1/2012, 11:21 AM
Do I want read this?
rockerdude22 - 4/1/2012, 11:23 AM
Only thing is, if true, wouldn't Thor have these dark powers in Asgard on his mind throughout the whole film? Would be unrealistic of Thor just joined The Avengers on Earth and not worry about his father the whole time.
PantherX - 4/1/2012, 11:23 AM
I just hope Hopkins returns for the Thor sequel, he's the only one of the main cast not to be mentioned at all up to now.
SymbioteSpidey1 - 4/1/2012, 11:24 AM

the title said "Chris Hemsworth And Kevin Feige Talk THE AVENGERS; Reveal How Thor Returns To Earth," yet there was nothing revealed about how Thor returns to earth.
GreyChaos13Zero - 4/1/2012, 11:51 AM
I read it, shouldn't had, but o well! tho I wonder at what cost?)
paulodracomagnovolts - 4/1/2012, 11:53 AM
Dark forces????Can be Amora?
Tainted87 - 4/1/2012, 11:58 AM
Dark forces - like Dark Elves, perhaps?

I can only assume the Thanos fanboys will be loving this bit.....
THORGodOfThunder - 4/1/2012, 12:03 PM
What the?...
rockerdude22 - 4/1/2012, 12:09 PM
Hmm, he did say dark powers from the UNIVERSE and not just the 9 realms. Could be something not relating to the Realms, but who knows.
Karmatron - 4/1/2012, 12:41 PM
where are the BOOBS?
Fogs - 4/1/2012, 12:45 PM
Not revealing at all, as I understand it could be just Hemsworth's interpretation of what really happened.

BTW, I wonder HOW hard would be for the Asgardians, with all their tech/magic, to rebuild Bifrost. Just a thought.
Karmatron - 4/1/2012, 12:48 PM
wheeeeereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
AvengersRock - 4/1/2012, 1:01 PM
I wonder if Dark Powers could lead to a Dr. Strange movie? We still don't know what movies are coming in 2014. Could be Ant Man, Dr. Strange, Cap, Hulk, or Guardians of the Galaxy. All have been rumored.
rockerdude22 - 4/1/2012, 1:32 PM
I actually thought out a theory about this. Yes, this maybe a stretch and seem like wishful thinking, but I think it sounds reasonable. The article says "dark powers" from the UNIVERSE and not just the 9 realms. I thought of a few universal threats from the comics, and with all the hints we've gotten, maybe these "dark powers" are Thanos. If true, this is how I think it'll play out:

1) Loki meets up with Thanos after falling through the worm-hole at the end of "Thor". He makes a deal with Thanos to use his army in exchange for telling him where the IG is. Now, you're thinking "why would Loki want to use a simple army over something like the Gauntlet"? Well, remember, Loki is still pretty young at this point in time, and probably doesn't know how powerful the Gauntlet is. He probably thinks it's just some useless trinket. He thinks he' screwing over Thanos, but little does he know.

2) Loki tells Thanos about a secret way to get into Asgard so he can steal the Gauntlet. Loki probably also thinks that letting Thanos go into Asgard will either take care of Thor and Odin or keep them busy so they don't find out about his mischief on Earth and try to interfere.

3) Thor and Odin think that Loki is dead ever since the end of "Thor". Odin possibly feels some sort of presence from one of the secret entrances to Asgard, and probably thinks it's maybe his son Loki returning to him, since Loki was the only one aware of the secret passages into Asgard. Odin foolishely let's this presence, Thanos, into Asgard. Thanos then gets the better of Odin and Thor, breaks into the Vault, steals the Gauntlet, and then leaves.

4) After this happens, Thor and Odin ponder how this mysterious fiend knew about some secret passage into Asgard. They figure that Loki is the one behind this, since he seems to be the only one who knew about the secret ways into Asgard. They then discover he's on Earth, which leads to Thor returning there to get Loki.

I also just want to point out that there was a story in the comics where Thanos went to Asgard and did battle with Odin, so this is not that much of a stretch. What do you guys think?
Rodimus9 - 4/1/2012, 1:51 PM
Heimdall sees Loki on earth and tells Odin who uses dark elf magic to send Thor back. Which will trap Thor on earth for Thor 2 and Avengers 2 & 3. Hemsworth will be 45 years old by the time he's done playing Thor.
ThunderCougarFalconBird - 4/1/2012, 1:56 PM
"specifically revealing the means by which he finds his way back to Earth"

True or not, this article goes nowhere near explaining this! All it says is he's on earth due to Odin pissing around with dark powers. That doesn't remotely explain how it happens, never mind "specifically".
kemuael - 4/1/2012, 2:49 PM
Even if it not fake I know this storyline from the comic so for who say it wont be good my friend you're surely mistaken
GreyChaos13Zero - 4/1/2012, 3:31 PM
I hope Thor doesn't get stuck on earth?)
ArmoredAsgardian - 4/1/2012, 5:42 PM
@mothman, even if they didn't announce sequels I doubt Marvel would kill any of the heroes in the first movie jackass

hmm interesting well till the movie comes out im gonna go with the paths between worlds theory. And that thor makes his way to earth via these paths. For cryin out loud loki blimmin mentioned them and u see a representation of them in the last issue of the avengers prelude comics.
finaljustice671 - 4/1/2012, 7:31 PM
@Rodimus9 I would be thoroughly pissed off if they put Thor back on Earth for the sequel. I'm sure Marvel is smart enough to have it take place in one of the other 8 realms and show off a lot more of Asgard. That is, if they don't break their stride after The Avengers.
neopunch - 4/1/2012, 8:26 PM
I guess we shall have all the answers on May 4. I cannot freakin wait for this movie. I was wanting to take that day off so I can watch the midnight showing, and then returning to watch it two more times... but I lost my job last monday so I won't have to worry about requesting time off!
aztecRaingod - 4/1/2012, 8:43 PM
Wow, that really clarifies things ! =P

Really though, Ockams razor says that Thor simply used Mjolnir to create a wormhole and return to earth. (The way he does in the comics)

No one realized how badass this hammer truly is.
elessarundomiel2382 - 4/2/2012, 6:32 AM
Odin doesnt have to be in the movie, Thor could simply just explain how he got there.
