COMICS: DC Planning Their Own Version Of CIVIL WAR With THE TRINITY WAR?

The ever reliable lads over at Bleeding Cool have learned of a big event that DC Comics are planning for 2013 called "The Trinity War". It's believed that this refers to DC's trinity of superheroes, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. There are literally no other details as of right now, but it's fair to assume that this event might see either the trio taking on each other or the rest of the DC Universe. With sales dropping slightly since "The New 52" was launched in September and Marvel grabbing headlines with titles like Avengers Vs. X-Men and Spider-Men, something like this would be the perfect way of putting DC Comics back in the spotlight.

superotherside - 4/17/2012, 2:18 PM
Okay. This could turn out well... or very bad... I'm not judging though until I read it though.
Rockstar96 - 4/17/2012, 2:23 PM
Sweet
ralfinader - 4/17/2012, 2:23 PM
The cover for WW #8 is so pitiful...

Something like this would be alot more interesting to me if it wasn't taking place in the new52.
Netman0007 - 4/17/2012, 2:23 PM
Sales have been fine wtf are they talking about. The new 52 was a success. I just hate Superman's collar and armor.
Netman0007 - 4/17/2012, 2:24 PM
Didn't we already see them battling each other in Flashpoint? And haven't they fought during the OMAC storyline and shit way back?
CyberBishop - 4/17/2012, 2:25 PM
Hmmm ok "With sales dropping since "The New 52" was launched in September".. If this is true then change things back to normal DC..
siggisuperman - 4/17/2012, 2:25 PM
I just wish DC would hire some better editors...
GLprime2814 - 4/17/2012, 2:26 PM
Still a year away no point in thinking what is or could be.
SigmaCenturion - 4/17/2012, 2:27 PM
Meh.
BIGBMH - 4/17/2012, 2:28 PM
hmm. i'll reserve judgement until i know more.
Netman0007 - 4/17/2012, 2:28 PM
I at least hope they keep The Flash if they revert back. That book has been phenomenal and actually INTERESTING. I do find it funny tho that Batman and Green Lantern pretty much stayed the same.

I REALLY hate everyone's "armor". Soooo [frick]ing stupid. WHY does Superman NEED armor? Makes ZERO sense. Batman doesn't even look sleek and cool he looks clunky. Batman needs to be like a ninja, not [frick]ing Iron Man.
CaptainObvious - 4/17/2012, 2:30 PM
But wasn't Civil War basically Kingdom Come?
Netman0007 - 4/17/2012, 2:31 PM
We saw em fight in the new JLA a bit too.
JDUKE25 - 4/17/2012, 2:31 PM
@grif I wouldn't be surprised if WB doesn't do any kind of trinity, worlds finest or justice league movie even after the Avengers success. They don't have the common sense to produce something like that.
HarrisonBergeron - 4/17/2012, 2:31 PM
Superman used the armor because Brainiac was kicking his ass and he needed it, it was in Action Comics before he was fully powered. He did need it.
DeadHubris - 4/17/2012, 2:33 PM
Nice! Marvel should think of their own Trinity. Might i suggest Captian America, Moon Knight, and Ms Marvel?
elcaballerooscuro92 - 4/17/2012, 2:34 PM
come on!!! if there's one thing i hate about marvel is that their heroes spend more times battling each other instead of fighting villains. Please DC don't be like that
DJCheckPoint - 4/17/2012, 2:34 PM
Yawn!
Knightrider - 4/17/2012, 2:35 PM
I would say that any sales decline is based on readers trying out new comics and then going long term with the ones they liked and dropping the ones they don't that was to be expected. This could be a good event, although I personally didn't like civil war, good concept bad execution in my opinion. Any crossover or event is always there to drive sales regardless of Marvel or DC just as X-men vs Avengers is, but this article comes across like it is some dirty by DC to drive up comic book sales.
SotNatt - 4/17/2012, 2:37 PM
@elcaballerooscuro92

Well, I am just on the opposite side of the spectrum with you. I mean, I love it when they can't get their shit together enough to stop fighting each other, making everything infinitely more worse in the process.

Everything's so much more interesting.

Having said that, I'm with SigmaCenturion, with a big resounding "MEH" from me.
bsgbumpersticker - 4/17/2012, 2:42 PM
What exactly is a big 2013? Also, should be speculating not "speculation" in the secondary title.
vtopa - 4/17/2012, 2:46 PM
I wonder if Aronofsky said no to Wolverine b/c he thought Batman might be a possibility.....
CapedCrusader - 4/17/2012, 2:47 PM
I don't think a civil war would work at DC. Batman would hide in the shadows while Supes laid the hurt on Diana. Then he'd spring out and throw some kryptonite at Big Blue and the whole deal would be over. Plus, DC's heroes are generally intelligent enough not to fight each other. Bruce already has contingency plans to eliminate the rest of the Justice League anyway (a la JLA: Tower of Babel/Justice League: Doom).
jokerZwild - 4/17/2012, 2:48 PM
great another "reboot".
AEStark - 4/17/2012, 2:49 PM
It's been done. Kingdom come. Public enemies. It's being rehashed again. I hope it's written well.
Odin - 4/17/2012, 2:49 PM
I know it is impossible, but I just hope that this event would cause some big cosmic-warp-reality-thingy, taht would restore the DC universe into way it was before the new 52(god I hate the new 52).
elcaballerooscuro92 - 4/17/2012, 2:51 PM
@superduperness yeah i love when DC super heroes discuss and fight and leave teams but they eventually get their act together for the greater good. and that's the tru meaning of black history month
elcaballerooscuro92 - 4/17/2012, 2:52 PM
besides what if superman and wonder woman team up against batman that wouldn't be fair... for them
marvel72 - 4/17/2012, 2:54 PM
i'll read it but i'm more intrested in what's going on in animal man.
tazmaniak - 4/17/2012, 2:58 PM
If this is what The Trinity War actually is, it's funny because someone already had this idea.

Does anyone remember that 3 episode fan created webseries from about 4 years ago called DC Elseworlds? In the third episode, they refer to something called The Trnity War, which is believed to be a battle between those three characters and their allies.

ralfinader - 4/17/2012, 3:01 PM
@Odin - Amen.
BigK1337 - 4/17/2012, 3:07 PM
My "Dumbass idea" senses are tingling. Plus, like AEStark mentioned before, the Kingdom Come story was DC's equivalent to Civil War with DC heroes fighting one another for the future of super heroes.

But I guess I should hold off my opinions on this idea.
AraxisHT - 4/17/2012, 3:22 PM
@Netman Superman needs armor so that he isn't repairing spandex every night.

I hope they keep this inside the New 52, but it seems a little soon...
Dracudelisho - 4/17/2012, 3:23 PM
I wonder how far batman would go to win a DC civil war. Would he surrender the way cap did with iron man? or finish superman and/or whoever is leading opposing team off?
DoomXfactor - 4/17/2012, 3:25 PM
Unless Mark Millar writes this then who cares. DC has very few good writers
Netman0007 - 4/17/2012, 3:49 PM
Flash would be with Batman
quadrapioneer - 4/17/2012, 3:51 PM
its nice to have a little DC info... really... little.
coolguy - 4/17/2012, 4:05 PM
Idk If this has been stated before but idk if they are referring to the usual trinity. Does any one think this could be referring to Phantom Stranger, Pandora, and x other force facing off. This would make more sense to me, especially expecting a pandora related event. Although I suppose that could lead to a fight between the heroes.

As for all the new 52 haters out there, I know some of the new stuff kinda sucks for u old fans but I see the new 52 as also just an increase in quality across the board. Looking back at some of the stories of say the last year of dc before the new 52, a lot of the art was kinda shitty and it seemed the writing was just kinda bad to me too.

Just an opinion though.
LordHuck - 4/17/2012, 4:44 PM
supersaiyanfan1

this is mainstream
LordHuck - 4/17/2012, 4:44 PM
now
SUPERBATSPIDERMAN - 4/17/2012, 5:10 PM
BAtman will own everyone. He knows how to take down every superhero out there pretty much.
oldnoname - 4/17/2012, 5:19 PM
I think it's funny how we literally only know the title and some people are already over reacting to rumors that were started in the same comments thread.

@coolguy
That would be very interesting and it seems more likely.
SuspenseSmith - 4/17/2012, 5:37 PM
Copycats...
Atlas - 4/17/2012, 5:53 PM
The bottom line is that Comic companies have been copying each other for years in some way, shape, or form. I think it was back in early 2000 when members of the JLA and JSA were corrupted by the seven deadly sins and they fought each other. It's only a matter of time before someone from the the current DC universe crosses over to another one.
dnno1 - 4/17/2012, 5:54 PM
I though the Sinestro Corps War was DC's big crossover and Marvel's Civil war was a knock off of that.
tazmaniak - 4/17/2012, 6:55 PM
@dnno1, no, Civil War actually ended 7 months before Sinestro Corp War started.
MadTitan - 4/17/2012, 6:55 PM
this could be good, go for it DC!
AUSSYACE - 4/17/2012, 6:59 PM
DC will Top that X V A Stunt that Marvel have going on...
Action - 4/17/2012, 7:08 PM
@Josh Wilding- When you say their own version of civil war, are referencing Marvel's civil war? If you are remember that Marvel's civil war was not an original idea. Marvel's civil war idea was taken from DC's Kingdom come.
