When Christopher Nolan agreed to helm 2008's The Dark Knight, part of the deal with Warner Bros. was that they allowed him to shoot with IMAX (there was ultimately 40 minutes of such footage in the completed film). However, The Wall Street Journal reveals that The Dark Knight Rises will contain the most IMAX footage EVER - more than an hour's worth. IMAX apparently have yet to commit to any other films this August and September as they're planning on giving the third and final instalment of Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise as much time on their screens as possible. The film will in fact be screened at 100 locations across the US. "I felt if we could have one of those in every major city, we could justify the difficulty of going to a lot of trouble to shoot this way. You will see a crisper image," said the director.

"There was a huge irony that we were told it would be too difficult to shoot a Hollywood movie on IMAX when we had this gigantic camera department, grips, electric, hundreds of people working for us," Nolan continued. "These were cameras that had been to the top of Mount Everest, to the bottom of the ocean and into outer space, but people thought we couldn't make a feature film. It was absurd. I remember looking at the audience every time a helicopter banked, and everyone was leaning slightly to the side. I had never seen an audience so immersed in a film." Are you looking forward to seeing The Dark Knight Rises in IMAX? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

STARRING:

Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Tom Hardy as Bane

I wish I had an IMAX cinema in my area.
JDUKE25 - 4/22/2012, 1:23 PM
Sweet. But I'll probably end up seeing it in a regular theater close by. I don't want to drive 1.5-2 hours to see it in IMAX and then pay $30-40 on tickets and refreshments.
JDUKE25 - 4/22/2012, 1:24 PM
@TheIrishAvenger LOVE that avatar of Bats.

thewonderer - 4/22/2012, 1:42 PM
If theres one thing that isn't a question of fanboyism, its that TDKR will definitely LOOK the best out of any film this summer.

Love you Nolan for going the extra mile of filming in IMAX and not cheapening your film with dreadful 3D.

I can't say for sure, because my cognitive skills have been significantly reduced, but I think this piece of news may have caused my brain to explode all over the wall. Will confirm this soon.

Only 12 days until The Avengers' US release which means Theatrical Trailer 2 and probably three days later we will get it online.

Cool, but which scenes from TDK were shot in IMAX? I'd like to be able to judge how much a difference it makes.

I read an interview (on CBM i beleive) with Wally Pfister on the increased use of IMAX in this one, he said somewhere close to 24 minutes was shot for TDK, and somewhere closer to 50 for this film. SO FREAKING HYPED! Avengers, Spider-men, Batman, Prometheus, The Hobbit! FORGET THE COMPETITION I'M PUMPED FOR THEM AAAALLLLL!

Nice scarf Nolan. Side note: TDKR will be awesome.
AC1 - 4/22/2012, 2:08 PM
I'm looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises, it will be the first movie I see in an IMAX cinema. I'm also going to see The Amazing Spider-Man in IMAX 3D eventually, if I get the chance.
MovieMaster - 4/22/2012, 2:12 PM
Don't worry guys. ELgUaSoN thinks that post-converted 3D and IMAX is unbelievably epic. He's special like that.
Lilvic92 - 4/22/2012, 2:15 PM

CaptainObvious - 4/22/2012, 2:21 PM
IMAX is the best way to see a movie. TDKR will be the next film I see there.

Also, I will never see another movie in 3-D again thanks to trainwreck known as Ghost Rider 2.
OverlyManlyMan - 4/22/2012, 2:24 PM
4D is where its at. [frick] the rest!
thetrojan - 4/22/2012, 2:24 PM
I have been to an imax cinema and it was great but it was a crazy documentary about egypt.

heres a question ,why isnt the whole film in Imax ,why only 40 minutes.
does a sign come up and say ,you are now in imax vision....
just curious folks.
NerdyGeek - 4/22/2012, 2:27 PM
ELgUaSoN: *Facepalm*
Supes17 - 4/22/2012, 2:27 PM
IMAX cameras are very noisy, so they are not recommended for dialogue scenes
Supes17 - 4/22/2012, 2:28 PM
@TheIrishAvenger:
Can you help me out bud? i can't get the gif images to work
clogan - 4/22/2012, 2:30 PM
Jesus, over an hour? This is going to be so epic.

I wish The Avengers was shot in IMAX. :/
clogan - 4/22/2012, 2:33 PM
Also, shut up you stupid people. This film's cinematography will rock.

Leave Burton's series in the past. We're done with it. These are 2 completely different series now.

Too bad Nolan's going to finish it all with this.

NerdyGeek - 4/22/2012, 2:33 PM
