Just yesterday, we brought you the news that Marvel's The Avengers was expected to reach an impressive worldwide gross of $500 million by Sunday. Well, the latest analysis from Deadline instead estimates a sum closer to $585M after the film is released in North America this Friday (where it's predicted to have a massive $160M opening) as well as in Russia and China. While some slightly more conservative estimates have those figures as being a little lower, the superhero ensemble made a jaw dropping $42.3M overseas yesterday, bringing its total through Tuesday to $260.5M. This impressive figures are sure to have been boosted at least a little through repeat viewing as the film really is something very special indeed. Just been to see it. Amazing film and I was shocked at how "central" Black Widow was and equally shocked at how well ScarJo did in the role!

KidDynamo0 - 5/2/2012, 9:53 AM
I saw it last night. Pretty great. I will be seeing it again!
Chewtoy - 5/2/2012, 9:59 AM
I'm not counting on it breaking the opening weekend record... I definitely think it's possible, but I also think it could possibly come in well below it. It shouldn't matter though. This film is a monster success already, and will have blown past the worldwide record for any Marvel Studios Film release well inside of 10 days of opening in the US.

It's also great for all the rest of the summer slate. When a fun film opens summer, it reminds audiences how much like they like the big screen blockbuster experience. Profits will be up for Hollywood this year.

@ ironman53

HULK SMASH! :)

@SCOURGE: Nah, $160m is as high as this one could go IMO. And even that is still in the air. Hoping for the best of course.
Squish - 5/2/2012, 10:08 AM
I think we should go dig up old posters that said the avengers would only make $500 million gross worldwide and would have a 70 percent RT rating. We should find these people and make an article bashing them. Who is with me?
Greengo - 5/2/2012, 10:11 AM
I GOT MY TICKETS BITCHES!

WOOT WOOT!

charlie2094 - 5/2/2012, 10:12 AM
160 Million not big? That would instantly make it the second biggest opening weekend of all time! The current highest is the latest Harry Potter at $169,189,427. $160 million opening would be huge, let alone the previously predicted $200 million. Seen this twice, can't wait to go again! :D
GingerBird - 5/2/2012, 10:13 AM
Huge money but I'm pretty sure it will only be number one for three weekends, the dark Knight was number one for four weekends.
GOTG - 5/2/2012, 10:24 AM
well i laugh at all of u who are saying "booked my tickets for first showing on friday" when i live in the uk and have seen it multiple times since it's release LAST WEEK ON THURSDAY! SUCK IT

It is so freaking amazing. Sadly i only have seen the bootlegged version (curiosity got the best of me)... but I am going to see it this opening weekend.

@Ironman... your gif delayed my post... i had to watch everyone. Longest and best gif i have ever seen.
thunderforce - 5/2/2012, 10:45 AM
I think it will do more than 160 opening . This is the kind of movie that whole families will want to see . I think by making TDK so dark they eliminate the younger kids from seeing it .
Cartoon22 - 5/2/2012, 11:01 AM
Hopefully it does dethrone avatar that made 169 mil I hope AVENGERS gets atleast 170 but I personally think it will make about 180-200 becuz is the type of movie kids to men to their wife's wanna see which is great!! 1 billion easy Nuffield said this was a great movie by Joss Whedon and the great cast!!!!

THE AVENGERS WILL DESTROY THE BOX OFFICE !!!!
vtopa - 5/2/2012, 11:03 AM
