Tom Hardy And Joseph Gordon-Levitt Talk THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Tom Hardy talks revealingly about training and donning Bane's mask, as well as his many influences (Kermit The Frog?!) while his co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt reveals what makes Christopher Nolan such a special director.

"Eating entire villages of chickens," laughs Tom Hardy when asked by Total Film Magazine how exactly he prepared to play the musclebound menace who makes Batman's life a living hell in The Dark Knight Rises. "When I started I was about 160-something pounds. When I was done I was 190. You life weights. You eat. You lift some more weights. You don't run anywhere because of you do cardio, you drop weight. So it's really good for heart attacks!" To play Bane, Hardy had to don a mask which covered up almost his entire face, although perhaps most importantly (in terms of his performance) his mouth. However, he tells the magazine, "It's not as bad as you might think. You just put it on. Work out where your drool goes. That's it. Mask work is good fun. This one wasn't painful; there was a stunt mask and there was the up-close one for the sexy glam shots."

"I will, when I build certain characters, take a soupcon of different things," reveals the British actor. "Like Kermit The Frog. I'll put a bit of Kermit in there. I'll take Robert De Niro from Taxi Drive, mix him up with animals and different characters, add a voice and then go home. I know my guy. He has a lot of people in it." However, he's quick to point out that he wasn't serious about taking inspiration from a Muppet. "No, there's no Kermit in Bane. Absolutely fucking not!"

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake (a Gotham City police office) in the highly anticipated finale to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, and had this to say about working with the director. "He prioritises the acting in a way that's really rare for such a high-scale, spectacular production. That even amid all these things that are going on, he made sure that the actors have what they need to create an honest performance, an honest moment. I think that's a big part of why audiences love his movies so much, because they don't feel like a bunch of fireworks. It feels like real stories, real people."

Be sure to pick up the latest issue of Total Film Magazine in order to read much more from these two as well as the rest of the cast.

You're so Bane you probably think this thread is about you. Don't you?
GiantNerd0720 - 5/12/2012, 5:29 AM
I have absolutely no idea what Hardy is talking about in the second paragraph.
MadTitan - 5/12/2012, 5:31 AM

i'm so excited right now.

GiantNerd0720 - 5/12/2012, 5:32 AM
JGL "It feels like real stories." ..................yay.
batfan175 - 5/12/2012, 5:39 AM
good to see that people are getting dumber every day by pre-judging stuff they haven't even seen. You all know you're gonna watch it anyway just so you can try to nitpick it to death.
GiantNerd0720 - 5/12/2012, 5:42 AM
It'll be good.
Viltrumite - 5/12/2012, 6:00 AM
By saying he's like Kermit, clearly he's trying to tell us that Bane is a puppet.
Probably most likely maybe controlled by the League of Shadows, led by Miranda Ta(lia)te.
I mean, it's kind of blatant.
Obvious, really.
Like, it's -right there- in no uncertain terms, I don't know how one could miss it.
Just left right in the open for the internet to obsess over.

@TurtlesRawesome

I just had to say, I got the reference.. that was quite witty of you, but you forgot the next line...

...I had some dreams, they were bats in my belfry, bats in my belfry... you're so Bane....
VIRILEMAN - 5/12/2012, 6:33 AM
It's funny how TDKR news keeps pouring in. I think The Avengers has DC pissing their pants.
Irons - 5/12/2012, 6:38 AM
^ ... lol.
Supes17 - 5/12/2012, 6:46 AM
@VIRILEMAN:
The movie comes out in like 2 months...
This is normal............

-_-
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 5/12/2012, 6:54 AM
No, virileman, this is one article in Total film, that for some reason is being leaked out on this site on several different pages.

Nailbiter had the entire article up the other night.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 5/12/2012, 6:57 AM
I still don't understand the point. I understand about taking down the scanned article, I don't understand why one article in a magazine needs to have 5 different pages devoted to it on this site. It seems like everything could be said in one effectively.
TheBigBoss917 - 5/12/2012, 7:03 AM
TDRK Will be the Avengers Slayer just like TDK was to Iron Man in 2008, everyone i know came and saw the Avengers but they say the real spectacle will be TDKR
TurtlesRAwesome - 5/12/2012, 7:19 AM
I think it is the other way around. Everybody presumed The Avengers to be the 'also ran' / underdog to TDKR. It preemptively slayed TDKR. You will hear a lot of non-comic fans leave theaters saying 'it was good but it was no Avengers.'
TurtlesRAwesome - 5/12/2012, 7:24 AM
If this keeps up, TDKR could break $100 million on its openi.ng weekend
TheDetectiveComicRises - 5/12/2012, 7:24 AM
@batfan175 well said.
Amazo - 5/12/2012, 7:48 AM
Too much plagiarism and not enough real journalism on this site.
timotey - 5/12/2012, 8:06 AM
@batfan175: I agree that people who bash a movie before they see it are nuts. But! I can measure the level of my excitement based on the released material - and so far, it's pretty much nill when it comes to TDKR. At the moment, I want to see it just because of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, that's it.
MrReese - 5/12/2012, 8:11 AM

@marvel87 .... right on man, somebody with taste!
brewtownpsych - 5/12/2012, 8:34 AM
maybe during some really sinister scene with bane he'll crack a joke about galaga ... that would be awesome and really add an extra element to the over all suspenseful tone of the film
TruePunishment - 5/12/2012, 8:34 AM
@Gambit, 190 pounds is a lot when you're 5' 8".

Report Comment @virileman how many video's were released for the avengers before it came out? Lol enough that I watched the whole movie before it came out. And the avengers isn't even remotely good to the other two batman movies and this one will be wayyyy better as well. This movie doesn't need to make more money to be better, I have seen low budget movies that didn't get on the big screen that were still better hahaha

maybe the avengers released so much because it wasnt their 8th movie and let a lil more out so to show the people what they had.

now on the other hand. if this is say like your 8th movie like it is batmans you wont to release as little as possible.because the heros already been done about everyway he can be, and you dont want to put to much out to soon or movie goers will spot its the same ol same ol and not go.

SLK - 5/12/2012, 8:39 AM
I can see no Bane. A 5' 10" piece of ham - that's what I see.
drknite30 - 5/12/2012, 8:45 AM
It is possible that since it is 9 years since BB, it is possible he is the little kid Batman gave the night vision scope to. If he was 12/13 years old. Never understood why Batman would give a kid one of his tools and since they want to bring the film full circle. Would explain the sudden appearance of JGL and how he seems important to the story.
TruePunishment - 5/12/2012, 8:49 AM
Still Bale is 6' even and weighs like 220lbs.
khoa1708 - 5/12/2012, 8:57 AM
remember, this movie takes place 8 yrs after the events of TDK... so whatever batman did in those years probably won't be seen in this movie... so nolan just did the start of bruce wayne's batman, threw in joker, took out the entire "prime" of wayne's batman career, then show how he will fall and someone will replace him as the next batman
SUPERSHADOWBAT - 5/12/2012, 9:01 AM
TDKR will be a great film and stand on it's own. Avengers is great as its own type of superhero film. Enjoy them for what they are. Enough of this DC vs Marvel crap.

basically the more marvels fans comment on every tdkr rises news the more they are worried, its funny really.

marcel - 5/12/2012, 9:47 AM
Marknjoanna is itsbarry I'm sure of it major Batman troll
skidz - 5/12/2012, 11:40 AM
The Nolan films would be artistic gold, if Batman never said a word. As much as I love them both, Bale's voice sets my teeth on edge every time.
skidz - 5/12/2012, 11:43 AM
One of many things better about the Avengers, the performances from the actors playing the protagonists don't annoy the snot out me.
