As Mark Millar releases several new comic books and wraps up yet another Kapow! Comic Convention, it seems like as good a time as any to "reboot"
CLiNT; the magazine originally launched by the writer and Titan last year. A lot is packed into this first issue and there's no denying that it delivers real value for money. Where it falters however is by having two full-length comics which have already been released (
Supercrooks #1 and
The Secret Service #1) and while these are two 5* books, most people will have more than likely bought them by this point. If not, well, you're in for a real treat. With both set to continue in the next issue alongside the debut
Hit-Girl #1 - presumably before the release of the comic in stores - there's no denying that this is THE place to come for all of your Millarworld comic needs.
The other two strips (
Death Sentence by newcomer Montynero and
2000AD artist Mike Dowling and
Rex Royd by controversial comedian Frankie Boyle) make for two decent reads, but may not appeal to everyone as they lack the guarantee of almost universal acclaim that comes with the work of a writer like Mark Millar. However, when you have four comics crammed into one magazine for such a low cover price, it's hard to be too critical as there's something here for everyone.
Filling out the issue is a fantastic interview with Millar on
Supercrooks and
American Jesus. He reveals a ton of details about both of these big screen adaptations, and fans of either series who are eagerly anticipating the films will want to pick
CLiNT #2.1 up for this alone. It also offers up some surprising details on the status of a few of the his other projects (
Nemesis is still on course for a 2014 release apparently). Also included is a fascinating chat with a real life vigilante, and the reveal of the emergence of his very own villainous counterpart...on Twitter! A must-read. Throw in a celebration of 20 Years of
Lenore and a few other brief features and
CLiNT #2.1 is well worth picking up regardless of whether or not you checked out the first volume. If all of the comics included are new to you, add a star to the score below.
CLiNT #2.1 makes for a great read and proves to be absolutely fantastic value for money. On sale this week, you should most definitely hunt down a copy!
