Warner Bros. Moving Ahead With AQUAMAN, GREEN ARROW, SHAZAM And SUICIDE SQUAD?

According to the same site that broke the news Warner Bros. are finally moving ahead with Justice League, the studio are now also hard at work on giving each of the above characters (and the Flash) their own films. We also have an update on Ryan Reynolds' uncertain future as Green Lantern.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. are still developing movies featuring Aquaman, The Flash, Green Arrow, Lobo, The Suicide Squad, Shazam and Wonder Woman. Some of these we already knew about, others have been rumoured for years. However, this is the first update in quite some time and seemingly confirms that the studio is still working on them (we haven't heard anything on Suicide Squad since 2010). Apparently, they are also still undecided about whether or not to bring back Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern in a sequel to last year's critical and financial disappointment or to simply, "relaunch the character in a completely new way." Sources close to their development process also tell the site that The Avengers has played a key role in how Warner Bros. will handle their superhero movies moving forward, and that it is important for them to find the right creatives who understand the characters in the same way Joss Whedon so clearly did with Marvel's superhero ensemble. Also mentioned in the report is their decision to move ahead with the Batman franchise following Christopher Nolan's departure and the fact that they won't be making any firm moves when it comes to any of these films until the release of The Dark Knight Rises next month.

SOO Much! I hope they got a plan down and really clean up their act and start creating good films.
imnotahero - 6/7/2012, 6:41 PM
The lamest superhero movies ever made.
marvel72 - 6/7/2012, 6:43 PM
i wouldn't worry about green arrow, sucide squad & lobo so much, should concerntrate on bringing the likes of the flash, wonder woman, aquaman, superman, batman(reboot) & the green lantern(reboot) together in one universe that leads to a justice league movie.

shazam would be great, just to see the rock as black adam.
antonio - 6/7/2012, 6:45 PM
With a proper writer, director, and The Rock as Black Adam, Shazam could be damn good.
Knightrider - 6/7/2012, 6:47 PM
@Antonio Agreed a well written Shazam movie will e amazing. The Rock is Black Adam
Knightrider - 6/7/2012, 6:48 PM
I hope this is all true. If so, Amazing
Asterisk - 6/7/2012, 6:49 PM
They are doing Green Arrow...but what about:
Knightrider - 6/7/2012, 6:51 PM
Although with the Arroe TV series will they use the same characters. Or if show is successful don't even make a Green Arrow movie just use the one from TV show that would be interesting using different media forms to build up the movie

well, here's hoping. but if they aren't in the same universe like Marvel did, then i don't think it'll be a success
CaptainDC - 6/7/2012, 6:58 PM
Bring us a Green Lantern sequel!!!

and oh yeah, we NEED a flash movie
LAXtremest - 6/7/2012, 7:00 PM
An Aqua Man movie???? Hmmm...
VicSage - 6/7/2012, 7:00 PM
Warner Bros./DC Entertainment is a mess. They have no idea what they're doing. Just making movies to make them. I say don't touch Batman for 10 years. A Justice League movie can work without him. Although the Superman-Batman dynamic would be lost. As a huge Batman fan, I just can't stand to see another Batman in film unless it's a Nolan Batman 4 before 2015. If not, leave Batman alone. Tired of the character... and I'M A HUGE FAN OF HIM!
GreenHalJordan - 6/7/2012, 7:00 PM
They dont need to reboot Green Lantern. The mistakes in the first can be fixed with a sequel with new writers, director, and a Sinestro Corps War story. The cast did pretty good and I think that the sequel would show Hal's character develop into a more serious one and that way people wont automatically think hes a 100% comedy character.
MitchConner - 6/7/2012, 7:00 PM
Why would you reboot Batman? Duh. This series is great, if you gotta stop using Bale as Batman fine, why reboot it though? Someone else steps in as Batman after Bruce Wayne/Bale retires...Nolan's series would bring a sense of possibility to the Justice League like the Iron Man did to Avengers...

What no Wonder Woman?!

brewtownpsych - 6/7/2012, 7:01 PM
i will believe it when i see it. shazam could be huge if done right.
MitchConner - 6/7/2012, 7:01 PM
Nolan's series is the best thing they have going for them
Coloso - 6/7/2012, 7:02 PM
@Gusto

;)
MitchConner - 6/7/2012, 7:03 PM
And on the Wonder Woman...hey, it'd be a great flick to watch as a dude, but it won't bring WB half a billion, and that's the end game...won't happen
doodmanbro - 6/7/2012, 7:06 PM
god really? he only has three arrows in his quiver. how is that green arrow? is going to have trick arrow? i really despise wb
Coloso - 6/7/2012, 7:07 PM

laughterman26 - 6/7/2012, 7:07 PM
watch i bet one of two things are going to happen. one] they are going to get joss whedon to direct the justice leugue movie, or they copy something from the avengers, like the battle sequence at the end, where its constantly switching between characters
TonyChu - 6/7/2012, 7:08 PM
I bet you the same people who were whining saying that them not copying Marvels formula was stupid are going to be the same people teasing DC for doing so.
tylerox9 - 6/7/2012, 7:08 PM
mmhm. First they said they are gonna do it unlike the marvel. And now news says that The Avengers have shown them how to handle their heroes and movies...
TonyChu - 6/7/2012, 7:09 PM
Nice to see DC getting into the movie fray. Justice League FTW!!
golden123 - 6/7/2012, 7:10 PM
They should add Wonder Woman and Hawkman to that list, and then, I think they will be set. Above all else, these movies need to be quality. That is the deal breaker. I'd rather really good films over a connected universe.
Greengo - 6/7/2012, 7:11 PM

MitchConner - 6/7/2012, 7:12 PM
@coloso I wish dude
TonyChu - 6/7/2012, 7:12 PM
Honestly they need to focus on an Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern sequel, Man of Steel 2 movies before launching their Justice League movie. Batman is so damn popular you can just reintroduce him in a JL film.
Dunejedi1 - 6/7/2012, 7:12 PM
Yeah, they're STILL developing. For years. I agree that anything not directly building up to/laying the groundwork for JL needs to take a backseat. I'm cautiously optimistic. They're talking the talk. We'll see if they walk the walk.
Viltrumite - 6/7/2012, 7:13 PM
This...this is good. Let's just hope that they're able to do Wonder Woman, the Flash, and Aquaman justice, as well as fix Green Lantern. And, of course, Justice League excites me like you wouldn't believe.
And then you have Man of Steel next year, which is looking really good.
I think DC is finally going to get their shit together.
MitchConner - 6/7/2012, 7:14 PM
@coloso whoa, second glance HSD
agentwhatshisface - 6/7/2012, 7:14 PM
i get it... as soon as they saw the post credits scene in iron man they were like.. "ok lets see how this plays out.. then we'll give it a shot depending how that one does." :P
Fastestmanalive - 6/7/2012, 7:14 PM
God I want to say so badly that this is the best news I've ever heard but I'll believe it when they really start developing these projects
Greengo - 6/7/2012, 7:16 PM
Tainted87 - 6/7/2012, 7:17 PM
I hope they don't try to tie it together with Cadmus. Cadmus is so freakin lame, and has no place in a "Shazam" movie. Suicide Squad (outside of Cadmus) does sound cool though - I want a focus on villains more than heroes especially.
TonyChu - 6/7/2012, 7:18 PM
Like I have been saying DC needs a Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon. They need some one who completely understand these characters inside and out and most importantly how to bring them together. The interesting thing about the JL that unlike the Avengers they don't really have internal struggles within the team as much as the Avengers. One of the critical points a Justice League movie has to tackle is how they are always seen as Gods among men.
Ranger14 - 6/7/2012, 7:19 PM
I think this is great news! Especially the Shazam part. Grew up watching that show, so I would love to see a live action film.

TonyChu - 6/7/2012, 7:19 PM
@ Tainted87 Well if Cadmus is used as an antagonist then that would be cool but I dont see how you can turn that into a full length movie. You see the Justice League was formed on their own unlike the Avengers who were formed by SHEILD in their movie.
Coloso - 6/7/2012, 7:20 PM
"Sources close to their development process also tell the site that The Avengers has played a key role in how Warner Bros. will handle their superhero movies moving forward, and that it is important for them to find the right creatives who understand the characters in the same way Joss Whedon so clearly did with Marvel's superhero ensemble."

Lol, where are the fellas claiming Marvel had nothing to do with WB/DC going forward with a Justice League film? Marvel took all the risks, risks WB/DC never would ;D

TonyChu - 6/7/2012, 7:21 PM
@ Froggy I have actually been impressed with it. Shazam is a perfect family film and even for us hardcore adults. And you are right The Rock as Black Adam would be outstanding!
StormLoganSummers - 6/7/2012, 7:22 PM
As of now I'm skeptical.
Philvis - 6/7/2012, 7:22 PM
As long as they get some good writers and learn from the mistakes of Green Lantern, the DC comics movies will do great. The Flash, Wonder Woman, Superman, Captain Marvel and even Aquaman are much more recognizable characters to the general public than Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Black Widow, and look how those movies turned out as far as popularity for Marvel. The one thing I hope WB does better than Marvel is the handling of the villains. I love all comic book movies, because its the stuff you only dreamed about as a kid, but the one thing that has prevented the Marvel movies from being great is the lack of depth with the villains. I hope WB learns from that with their movies.

Green Lantern's two biggest flaws were the slow pacing on Earth and not enough time in Space/Oa. $200 million was a shit ton of money for the special effects we got. I think a sequel to Green Lantern will do great with the correct script...even with Ryan Reynolds. WB just needs to take a look at their Justice League shows and even Young Justice and take queues from them on story telling and I think they can really produce some hits.

Ranger14 - 6/7/2012, 7:24 PM
I'm not quite sure about the Suicide Squad. While I like the Suicide Squad, I think it is tackling a little too much. Stick with the Justice League for now.
TonyChu - 6/7/2012, 7:24 PM
@ Philvis I could not agree with you even more. Loki is the only Marvel villain I feel like had the most depth to him. Red Skull comes close but at the same time I felt like he need a little bit more screen time to let his character flesh out a bit more.
GreyChaos13Zero - 6/7/2012, 7:25 PM
that's great, but they're missing a key part...

I'll promote Martian Manhunter?)

AlSimmons - 6/7/2012, 7:26 PM
DC has Whedon envy.
