Bleeding Cool has come across the following promo image via The James Franco Forever Tumblr. While it's not exactly revealing, it does offer us our first official look at James Franco (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) in Oz: The Great and Powerful as well as the logo for the Sam Raimi (Spider-Man) directed film. Whether or not this promo image will resemble the first official theatrical poster remains to be seen, but more details about the movie are expected to be revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con next month.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

STARRING:

James Franco as Oscar Diggs/Oz
Mila Kunis as Theodora
Michelle Williams as Glinda the Good Witch
Rachel Weisz as Evanora

Joey King as China Girl
Abigail Spencer as Mrs. Hamilton

is he ever going to lose that goatee?

anyway, hopefully this one is good. I like Raimi, and at least we won't have to see Dorothy, this is just like another way of telling Wicked.

I'm always down for a Raimi flick, Spider-Man or not.

This seems like an odd choice, but I'll see it if he's doing it.

Since when is a French poster in Italian?!
StormLoganSummers - 6/21/2012, 2:51 PM
The line under the poster says "Discover how it all began" in Italian, not French, as is the rest of the poster.
laughterman26 - 6/21/2012, 4:34 PM
does this have any relation to the wizard of oz
GUNSMITH - 6/21/2012, 5:19 PM
HE HAD TO BE LIKE A MAGICIAN AND THEN GOING TO OZ HE BECAME AN EXPANDED VERSION OF THAT..IT HAS A COOL STORY IDEA, LETS SEE WHERE RAIMI TAKES IT.
mgeoff88 - 6/21/2012, 5:35 PM

TheAbomination - 6/21/2012, 6:56 PM
Whatever. I stopped taking James Franco seriously as an actor a long time ago. But, I guess I'll wait for a trailer before writing this one off.
