xcan28 - 7/9/2012, 9:28 AM
BTW I sooo hope this is for the 'Ultimate' Marvel. My Nick Fury has hair gosh darnitt!
xcrementus - 7/9/2012, 9:31 AM
haha yep, I miss old Nick too. The Clint Eastwood of the Marvel Universe.
At least he's gonna be a regular in the new Defenders series though. The only place you can get your Iron Fist fix, Dr strange fix, Surfer fix and Antman fix, all in one place! haha!
xcrementus - 7/9/2012, 9:35 AM
Nick Fury Jr...the Tiger Woods of the Marvel Universe.
Bucht - 7/9/2012, 9:36 AM
Just1Superguy, You should read Battle Scars
xcrementus - 7/9/2012, 9:37 AM
@Just1Superguy...it's probably cus the mother cheated with Gabe Jones...finally, a secret Nick knows nothing about!!
xcrementus - 7/9/2012, 9:40 AM
Come to think of it, it really should've been Gabe's kid, now under Nick's wing cus his Gabe's dead. Missed opportunity.

Marvel Now!

Seriously. Worst. Name. Ever.
xcrementus - 7/9/2012, 9:42 AM
Worse than Paste Pot Pete?
nld3 - 7/9/2012, 9:44 AM
Disney is obsessed with making the movie universe the 616 universe.
Spidey31 - 7/9/2012, 9:46 AM
Are they rebooting the amazing spiderman run?
Matador - 7/9/2012, 9:46 AM
So who did the original Nick Fury shack up with to produce this one eyed prodigy?
mctrinket - 7/9/2012, 9:48 AM
So Fury is black now in the 616?
ACira - 7/9/2012, 9:48 AM
As much as I prefer the look of Ultimate Nick Fury, there was absolutely no need for 616 Marvel to have this character introduced. It was completely unnecessary, they already have a perfectly good Nick Fury.
Matador - 7/9/2012, 9:48 AM
Also how did he lose an eye too?
jojofmd - 7/9/2012, 9:49 AM
No Caucasian? He's as "black" as the current POTUS and his momma is as white as sugar so I think your argument is moot.
xcrementus - 7/9/2012, 9:49 AM
@Spidey31, they've said a lot that its not a reboot.
They're just changing up a lot of writers, throwing #1's around, and launching new books.
There's no word yet on whether Dan Slott is off of Spidey, although promos show a new costume, it looks like the old Alex Ross concept design thats been floating around for years.
xcrementus - 7/9/2012, 9:51 AM
@Matador: An old agent that Nick used to work with, she retired and raised the kid away from Nick. He kept tabs on them though.
He lost the eye, when the leader of Leviathan cut it out, as a way to say "frick you" to Fury for nearly killing him.

shiverman20 - 7/9/2012, 9:55 AM
Using the Sam J version of Fury tells me we might possibly have plots that run along side the movies..?

The success of The Avengers and the release of this news is way too coincidental, it actually feels more likely than the idea they're copying the New 52 idea
superotherside - 7/9/2012, 10:01 AM
Battle Scars was great. Looking forward to seeing more of the new Nick. :)
Matador - 7/9/2012, 10:02 AM
xcrementus - Ahhhhh thanks for the update. Makes sense now then jumping to conclusions.

Like thinking he might have a bastard child from a rookie shield agent he hooked up with. And then loosing his eye after a paper clip war.

Or

tripttwe - 7/9/2012, 10:04 AM
@Just1Superguy- Samuel L. Jackson DOES have caucasian blood ties in his family (I saw it in a PBS special), but I think that Fury should be one who is not black nor white. I think that this could be another face of his in the 616. Years down the road we find out that Fury was actually Tom Defalco...
Deadpool101 - 7/9/2012, 10:13 AM
yeah my best friend has a white dad and he is black as night
Deadpool101 - 7/9/2012, 10:22 AM
^ I like that there is a change I'm all for this
kirynthemighty - 7/9/2012, 10:23 AM
Anyone wondering what is going on with the black "sammy" looking fury, then read the battle scars run 1-6. It will explain everything. It was a decent story and everything and it works, but I do think it was a forced move to make fury in 616 look like "sammy" so that after avengers and what not "new readers" that might jump in after the movie or whenever won't be confused when seeing white fury. Forced, but with battle scars...not a complete BS move. I do think they need to start doing more stuff with new Nick since battle scars, because since then....you haven't heard jack squat. I hope this doesn't just POP up in October and all of a sudden everyone is "Oh, ok new black Nick fury. Sure we'll do what you say" Now THAT would piss me off.
Matador - 7/9/2012, 10:26 AM
I don't think people are bitching just more like WTF where they stash this kid and no back story. Does he have his diploma to run Shield?
elcaballerooscuro92 - 7/9/2012, 10:28 AM
spiderman?
miggz - 7/9/2012, 10:48 AM
marvel is garbage.
SkinnyOne - 7/9/2012, 10:52 AM
It would be better if Nick Fury was like James Bond. Whoever is in that position they can call themselves NICK FURY
kirynthemighty - 7/9/2012, 10:58 AM
LOL, not a name...ITS YOUR POSITION!
inky - 7/9/2012, 11:08 AM
time nick fury in whatever guise he is in stepped down and handed the control over to new leader of shield, will be hard to fill his boots but there are some out there able to and do so well, franklyn richards has yet to fill a role since saving the universe, howard the duck is not busy, forbushman might do well, there are many not busy who would fill the roll may be a poll is needed.
jazzman - 7/9/2012, 11:14 AM
@Just1Superguy

WTF. some mixed race children sometimes take more or less of the race. look at The Rock he is half black but some people say he look more samoan.

@Matador

hes mother is Nia Jones a agent

Moakynubs - 7/9/2012, 11:17 AM
SALES.
OrganizedChaos - 7/9/2012, 11:29 AM
Nick Fury Jr first entered the 616 universe in the post Fear Itself series Battle Scars along with Agent Coulson. Long story short, Fury Jr has the Infinity Formula in his blood and villains were after it in his blood.

But honestly I liked his original name Marcus. Marcus Fury sounds better and less forced on for marketing like Nick Fury Jr

Dedpool - 7/9/2012, 12:39 PM
I'm all for this. Let Fury Sr run wild and chase Hydra and such while Jr and S.H.E.I.L.D. get the world back on track. Put Hill under him, and Agent Coulson as his right hand man and we're good. he be a more hands on Fury, like the way Sr was back in the day.

@ OrganziedChaos - Agreed Marcus Fury Sounds much better.
JohnnyKrypton - 7/9/2012, 12:55 PM
I don't even like the fact that "Nick Fury Jr." exists. What a cheap, insulting piece of 'storytelling.'
Matador - 7/9/2012, 1:01 PM
You have two Nick Fury's both in charge of the most expensive & elite organization they also have advanced tech at there disposal, yet none can afford a cybernetic eyeball to replace a cheap patch.
Spartan11 - 7/9/2012, 1:13 PM
Please Marvel enough with the Nick Fury Jr. Old Nick Fury was a cool character and this new one is turning me off a little.
BIGBMH - 7/9/2012, 1:21 PM
What happened to the original Nick Fury? Anyway, I'm curious how many of you who are expressing dislike for this character have actually read anything involving him. Not defending the decision. Just observing the typical comic book fan's tendency to jump the gun without having much information.
Spartan11 - 7/9/2012, 1:25 PM
I'd rather not read anything involving Nick Fury Jr.
drykillogic22 - 7/9/2012, 1:41 PM
I'm starting to think that caucasians are genetically inclined to hatred. Honestly I can't condemn an entire race for the faults of a few..and I've had more than enough reasons to try..lol
nld3 - 7/9/2012, 2:08 PM
Its not about color for me its the fact they have to make changes to fit the movies & Marvel has been doing this crap for years and I hate it. But there is nothing you can do. They are always selling out to the movies & now Disneys in charge 616 will be history.
DanteSparda - 7/9/2012, 2:28 PM
Please, someone tell me, what the fück is wrong with the old badass Nick Fury? What's so cool about the black Nick Fury? Fücking Sam Jackson, fücking Tiger Woods.
Spartan11 - 7/9/2012, 2:31 PM
That's true nld3. Is not about race at all. This decision was just to cash in on the Avengers film and made no sense story telling wise for the comics. If this guy was just a new SHIELD character not named Nick Fury Jr, I dont think it would be an issue for people. There's no good reason for this to be Nick Fury over the original.
jimoakley666 - 7/9/2012, 3:03 PM
This is [frick]ing pathetic. They really are just doing away with any illusions they may have been trying to uphold of them being a proper story driven publisher and not just another licensing company. Why not just give it all up, Marvel. Make films and sell cheap plastic tat with your brands plastered all over it. That's all your obviously interested in these days. Brand recognition, [frick] story.
OrganizedChaos - 7/9/2012, 3:11 PM
@Dedpool totally agree! at least someone is open minded it about it. I for one wished things would have stay the same, but i am positive in the future
OdinsBeard - 7/9/2012, 3:13 PM
Nick Fury Jr. pisses me off more and more every time i see him.

you guys cast a black guy to play nick fury in the movies, that's cool. GREAT even! it works. Fury's race is inconsequential. it's ok to have a black actor play him and not treat your loyal comic fans like total crap.

but i guess that's what we are. loyal. so it aint like we're going anywhere.

if a confused movie-goer has a question about why nick fury is white in the comics all you have to say is "yeah we just cast sam jackson to play him in the movie." done. over. but no, they force feed us fans this nonsense.

if you want to be more p.c. just kill off white nick fury and have ultimate fury do some universe skipping over to 616. and yes, i buy multi-verse crossovers over a white guy having a long-lost black son that also wears an eye-patch.

marvel always tries to throw us curve balls but their second basemen has been tipping us off for awhile now.

OdinsBeard - 7/9/2012, 3:21 PM
OrganizedChaos@ I AGREE! Marcus Fury is way better. should've kept it.

and once again marvel tries to make-up for the fact that they didn't create a lot of black characters in the 60's by giving black characters all the hand-me-downs from the white characters. not, ya know, CREATING ORIGINAL CONCEPTS. i mean why would you want to create something original when you just get a black dude, give him steve rogers' old uniform and fury's entire identity, eye-patch included.

smh
