Following the shocking events in Aurora, Colorado which saw gunman James Holmes go on a shooting rampage during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros. has put a stop to all future appearances of the cast and crew from the film. The premiere in Paris was understandably cancelled yesterday, although this announcement means that director Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Joseph Gordon Levitt will not be taking part in the planned press conference or red carpet events on Monday at Mexico City's National Auditorium. However, fans invited to the screenings in Mexico and Japan will still be able to attend, as will any promotion winners. Details as to why the shooting (which left 12 dead, and 38 injured) took place still aren't clear, although Colorado authorities are today undertaking a series of "controlled detonations" in Holmes' booby-trapped apartment. Really sad, especially considering this was a very, very good movie.

RIP Batfans.
bane187 - 7/21/2012, 11:14 AM
That suks
GoILL - 7/21/2012, 11:28 AM
I really hope that asshole pays for this horrific act.
transforminator - 7/21/2012, 11:32 AM
Seeing the Dark Knight Rises suffer for one asshole's relentless actions is literally crushing my heart man. This really sucks.
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/21/2012, 11:34 AM
Not sabotaging, I think they don't want to promote the movie knowing what happen while people were watching their film.
StarkAnthony - 7/21/2012, 11:35 AM
Seeing hundreds of people suffer over one man's actions breaks my heart. Don't worry, the poor movie will be okay
jazzman - 7/21/2012, 11:36 AM
this is very sad how one sick person effects everything
worldbreaker - 7/21/2012, 11:41 AM
it's not like theyre not still showing the movie. they just cant celebrate it anymore because of what happened. if they were to go ahead like nothing happened that would be very disrespectful. there isn't much to celebrate at the moment. theyre handling this well IMO
IDKwhatToChoose - 7/21/2012, 11:43 AM
Honestly the movie will be fine. It will make loads of money because of this. They will re-release it "in memory of the aurora victims". Terrible that someone would do something like that. The death penalty would be too easy for this character. He wants to be the Joker? Take some razor blades to his face.
Superheromovie - 7/21/2012, 11:43 AM
@ Chloefornication; maybe it's because they don't want to look like they only care about money(even though that's all they care about) but they would probably receive huge backlash and look like heartless people.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 7/21/2012, 11:43 AM
The film has practically promoted itself. I see nothing wrong with bringing it down a notch for a while out of respect.
Spidey31 - 7/21/2012, 11:46 AM
I hope he never gets out
FireKnightRises - 7/21/2012, 11:48 AM
Its still playing worldwide well maybe not in some countries though

I think they are allowing the shooter to seize the moment and have power over it and their work and some parts of their lives.

Though holding back sales figures was the right thing to do, allowing the shooter this power, and showing other potential shooters the power they can have, is the wrong move.

They should immediately get in touch with each family of the poor victims and see to it that all of the funeral expenses are taken care of.

They should ask the families permission to hold a vigil and tribute to the victims somewhere in Aurora. And request that they have pictures and videos to show at the tribute, and share with the world the lives of the poor victims.

The victims of the shooting and their families were hit head on by a coward's evil.

WB and those who made the film those victims wanted to see and enjoy but never got to, should not sit back and let only the acts of his cowardice be heard and repeated, but they should come back at it with good. And if the families are OK with it share with us the stories and lives of the innocent victims.

They can't undo what he did, but they can stop letting his madness continue to thrive in the media. And they can redirect attention from the coward and to the fallen people who only wanted to enjoy their film.

"I have felt sick to my stomach all day thinking about the terrible "Movie Massacre," as they're calling it. It is incredibly hard for me to imagine how someone could do something so horrible. There have been so many valid theories as to what might have influenced this young man and his actions. While I believe many of these, there is one influence I cannot seem to ignore. Like so many voices I heard today on the news, I do place some blame on the media. There are too many video games, movies, and TV shows that glorify violence, making it seem fun, cool, easy, justified, and a game. Well I'm sure those poor victims and their families know better than anyone that violence is not cool, is not justified, and is most definitely not a game. It is easy to watch what is on a screen and forget the world around you, becoming unaware of the line between reality and fantasy. Many people have been hurt in the past from this lack of distinction, and I have a strange feeling this problem also influenced the 24 year-old graduate student last night. Whether we notice or not, we are constantly being influenced by the media we are pumping and pumping into our lives. Please be careful, please be smart, and please don't be afraid to limit yourself to what you do or do not watch, listen to, or play. The media is a powerful tool. Use it to influence you and the world for the better, not to tear it apart. My heart, prayers, and so much love goes out to those who were affected by this tragedy. Please know we are all with you and love you." - My friend

My own words:

This horrible event has made me think about film, violence, and man's hatred toward each other. We so easily gravitate towards violence as entertainment. We glorify killing. We praise action and superiority of one strong or cunning man over the other. Often times I feel that we tend to forget the real message behind the heroes that we praise on screen or on the comic book page. It is the selfless acts of the hero to protect the helplesss and the innocent that we should be praising, not the violence. We should remember more about the senseless tragedies that begat heroes like Batman, Spider-Man, and so on, not the tales of vengeance or the "epic deaths" of villains.

Beyond film and comics, we've become a society full of hatred and divisions among ourselves. Racism, partisanship, rivalries, fanboy divisions. We abandon our civility at the drop of a hat. We quickly separate ourselves into "us vs them."

Rather than dividing ourselves by differences, we should be uniting together through common grounds, finding compassion for one another through similarities. We are all part of one family. We are ONE race, the human race. We all struggle through this life of strife and survival together. If we all looked upon those that suffer with compassion, life for all would improve. Compassion overcomes evil at every turn. Tragedy can beget frustration, anger, panic, and hatred, or it can beget love, renewal of morality, and inspiration toward a better world.

No amount of government policies, organized religions, or media inspirations can bring these changes about. They must be individual and personal. Change must start from our own free will and hearts first. The world changes one person at a time.
Xandera - 7/21/2012, 11:57 AM
Jeez, this whole thing just plain sucks... people are suffering, the movie is suffering, it just sucks all around...
StormLoganSummers - 7/21/2012, 11:58 AM
They're definitely better off not going to Mexico.
R3dRUM - 7/21/2012, 12:00 PM
i REALLY hope this guy gets the chair, or some sort of painful death like the guy in the movie Law Abiding Citizen one sick mother[frick]er forever burn in hell...

R.I.P to the victims

and the gun law in the US needs to change BIG TIME
darkmetal - 7/21/2012, 12:02 PM
@cipher I'm simply saying that though attending premiers is of course not important now, I think they should hit the head on evil with head on good.
But only with the families approval should they get that involved.

The should do what they can to take the attention away from that coward because that was part of what he wanted and the media fixating on him shows other potential coward shooters what they can achieve.

I know the President spoke out yesterday and I wish he would call out the media for sensationalizing this and condemn them for it and embarrass them.

CNN and FOX tried their best to attach flashy titles to the shootings as they have done with so many other horrific events.

The guys face is held up on their sites just as he would want. So he got his wish. He got to murder people and get his face and name known to us all.
darkmetal - 7/21/2012, 12:04 PM
@Pendaghast And what do you think should be done? Send him a comment with [Frick] in it?
thewonderer - 7/21/2012, 12:08 PM
I agree with Pendaghast. What makes these 12 deaths so much more newsworthy than the thousands that die every day?

But of course by asserting this, people naturally think your cynical
darkmetal - 7/21/2012, 12:11 PM
@cipher If I saw one politician have the guts to publically and harshly condemn and humiliate the media over their actions that politician would earn my respect.
Nubase - 7/21/2012, 12:15 PM
you have to look at it from nolan and the casts point of view, they know if they turn up all the media in the world will decend on them and they will not ask questions about the movie, they are most prob affected just like we all are about what happened.

Especially now that the media are using links to the comics books, l mean sky news here in the UK are using the joker scene from the dark knight where he blows up 2 bombs at the same time as the link, l mean wtf!

Out of respect they are staying away, l think after that sad frick reveals why he did it cos we all know he did it for a sick reason not because of the movie or being the joker then slowly nolan and the crew will turn up.

l'm watching the movie tommorow, looking forward to it but in a weird way.
AsianVersionOfET - 7/21/2012, 12:16 PM
This whole deal just sucks. Ah and this movie was so good. R.I.P. to all the victims.
darkmetal - 7/21/2012, 12:27 PM
@Pendaghast I'm not sure where you live but yes there is shock. Not surprise that it's possible no. And there is a feeling of sadness and sympathy for all the victims and families.

And from the outside you may think that citizens of this country are delighted with our Government but I don't know a single person, nor have I ever who approves of our Government. Country-yes. The Politicians who run it-NO!

The fact that the shooter was able to walk into Gun Shops WITH PINK HAIR-3 weeks ago, not speak to people and appear to be drugged up, and get his assault weapon modified is totally ridiculous. But it happened.

And now he's practically a celebrity. And the media have a story for their ratings.
siggisuperman - 7/21/2012, 12:38 PM
I think it is important to remember all the people who watch violent movies, and play violent games and then DON'T go out and kill people.
Marxman12 - 7/21/2012, 1:15 PM
I can almost guarantee that the shooter's gun was either bought illegally or modified illegally as assault rifles are illegal for private ownership in the U.S. As for Warner Bros. cancelling their press events I believe the words of Harvey Dent suffice: "You can't give in!" Go see.the movie. Do not let fear dictate your actions.
oxnardmontalvo742 - 7/21/2012, 1:24 PM
@cipher
i agree i'm tired of seeing this piece of trashes face every time i turn on the TV or come here, it kills me that this great film is being over shadowed by this psychopath and now whenever you talk about this movie the shooting will always come up and that makes me sad cause i loved this movie.
SuperDan89 - 7/21/2012, 1:25 PM
It's a sign of respect, I'd think Marvel would do the same.
capreborn - 7/21/2012, 1:59 PM

the media pisses me off; a white american does it and the "poor" man was troubled, if he was a minority then he'd be crucified and killed on the spot.
