TDKR Tops UK Box Office; Narrowly Misses Out On Beating THE AVENGERS

It's still doing well. Too bad the bad publicity is slowing it down.

Great movie!

6 days left to my IMAX session. Can't wait.

TDKR also doesn't have the advantage of 3d revenue and the paris premeire was canceled and all advertising was pulled

uk bat fans,i'm going in next few hours not as excited to see the movie as i was the avengers.

but still gonna watch it,i watched batman begins on monday & the dark knight yesterday,today the dark knight rises.

so they're all fresh in the memory for today's session.

I plan on doing the same thing. Watch the trilogy in order. Fri: Batman Begins, Sat: The Dark Knight, and Sun: Dark Knights Rises. Hopefully the theater won't be as packed on the second weekend. Opening weekend is always to busy for me.

yeah mate,its the way to do it i haven't seen either of the previous movies in ages,maybe even a year or more ago.

i did the same with the build up movies to the avengers as well.

People on this site tend to compare The Avengers to The Dark Knight Rises, which is ridiculous. Why do you do it? is it simply the Marvel vs. DC thing? If any of you knew anything about movies you would know they are completely different films, out side of them both being comic character based movies, but of course that won't change.

This childish competition between Marvel and DC fanboys is sickening and makes reading the comments to these articles, just for one intelligent response, an arduous task.

If this is a competition which it appears to be then to make it fair the Avengers figure should only be from the normal and IMAX showings not including the 3D viewings right?

Don't get me wrong if we all shared the same taste in films it would be boring but basing it upon the M vs. DC 'battle' just makes you lot look like a shower of [frick]cing twats.

Sorry for being rude but it seems like thats the nature of things on this site.

That's from only being released in 14 territories so far, the box office for TDKR is just beginning and the tragedy around the shootings has added even more interest for the movie in the countries its yet to be released in.

@Newbus - Its rated high because it has greater depth and quality to its production than Avengers. It won't beat the Avengers for box office popularity, but the movie isn't ultimate popcorn like the Avengers. Comparing the two is like comparing Star Wars to The Godfather, one is all about the quality of various aspects of film making and the other about the spectacle of pop-visual entertainment. So since most people don't give a flying frak about quality of cinematography, depth in performances and character journeys, relateable content, the dynamics of an ensemble (The Avengers did that aspect quite well actually), effective production values in costume and set design, use of original score or singular and collective narrative structure; then in most cases the film they simply have most fun watching they consider to be the best regardless of any technical merit of far superior made movies that they simply don't find as entertaining.

Okay ive seen it now and here is my opinion;
Its a sprawling mess of a movie.
I found the first hour or so to be okay,quite enjoyable.
Then it just seemed to crush and rush to explain everything and nothing.

I loved the first two,even watched them to update myself before this final part of the trilogy...bad bad bad.

Someone else suggested that the whole film was like in the tv series where Batman is running around with a comic bomb on a jetty and does not know where to throw it without hitting some innocents,
Well we were the innocents,the audience put our faith in someone to deliver and they took or money and did not have the decency to run.

Heres the rub,at the end I was emotionally charged and shed a tear...why?

i liked the dark knight rises. it wasn't without it's "flaws" but neither was iron man. or x-men 2. or the avengers. or superman 3. or almost every movie.

Great film. It's funny the people hating on the film seem to be the same commenters that were bashing the film before it came out.

Yeah frankly i was really excited for this movie but it just wasn't as good as its predecessors. As someone mentioned some things were laughably forced such as blake knowing who batman was. Also the gun fire lighting up batman as he attacked henchmen, laughable. Can't wait to see gifs and paradys of that.

Frankly I think some people over hyped this movie in their heads so much they can't admit that it really is the weakest of the 3. Not a bad movie but i certainly won't be seeing it 4 times like i did TDK And avengers.

It was most definitely the weakest.I love how they perfectly follow order from best 2 worst.

I'll say this once more on this forum. The Avengers was released internationally 3 weeks before it opened domestically. A very big head start as opposed to TDKR. I saw Avengers 3x giving it a fair shot. In no way shape or form is it better than TDKR.

The Dark Knight Trilogy is possibly the most epic trilogy ever in film. Not just superhero films (as, it already is that), but in film all together. The only franchises that may threaten that remotely are Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Toy Story (yes, Toy Story), and Transformers. The only real threat however is Star Wars.

there is no such thing as "bad publicity"
i dont think the incident has stopped anyone from seeing it... in fact, it probably made more people aware of the movie

and as far as TDKR vs Avengers... two different movies

its like comparing The Godfather with Aliens.

You know, there is no definitive "this movie is the best movie of the year" except within the individual mind of the viewer. Everyone ticks differently and judges a film differently. The only thing that matters is the viewer's opinion. For some, The Avengers will be the best movie of the year. For some, TDKR will be the best movie of the year. For some, TASM will be the movie of the year. For some Moonrise Kingdom will be the best movie of the year. For me, I can't say what the best movie of the year is because THERE ARE 5 FLIPPIN' MONTHS OF MOVIES TO BE SEEN YET THIS YEAR! ;-) I can speculate that The Hobbit will be the best movie of the year for me, but that remains to be seen until I see the film. :-)

Batman Begins + The Dark Knight = The Dark Knight Rises, in terms of plot elements, et cetera.

However, to me, in terms of overall rating, Batman Begins = The Dark Knight > The Dark Knight Rises. The first two are, like, 9/10 movies for me, while the latter sits around 8/10 to 8.5/10.

Don't get me wrong, The Dark Knight Rises is a great end to the equally great trilogy, and yes, the ending IS brilliant, to me. However...the plot holes, the way characters such as Miranda Tate is handled, et cetera, just bother me a lot. It feels a lot more like a comic book movie, though, and it also has a lot of thrilling moments (and as I've said, the ending is brilliant), but its weaknesses are a lot more obvious compared to its predecessors.
