TDKR Tops UK Box Office; Narrowly Misses Out On Beating THE AVENGERS

The Dark Knight Rises opened with over $160 million in the US this past weekend, and it has now been confirmed that Christopher Nolan's epic finale to his Batman trilogy had the second highest opening of 2012 in the UK, only just missing out on topping The Avengers.

Digital Spy reports that The Dark Knight Rises' UK debut of £14.6 million is the second highest opening of 2012, but obviously is not quite high enough to topple Marvel's The Avengers (better known as Avengers Assemble on that side of the pond). Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble (which was helped by £2.55 million in preview showings) had an opening weekend of £15.78 million back in April. However, Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman movie had no problems beating Sony Pictures's Marc Webb helmed reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man after that opened earlier this month with a still impressive £11 million. This opening for The Dark Knight Rises is £4.43 million ahead of both Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008. Below is the current UK box office top ten in full.
