Digital Spy reports that
The Dark Knight Rises' UK debut of £14.6 million is the second highest opening of 2012, but obviously is not quite high enough to topple
Marvel's The Avengers (better known as
Avengers Assemble on that side of the pond). Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble (which was helped by £2.55 million in preview showings) had an opening weekend of £15.78 million back in April. However, Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman movie had no problems beating Sony Pictures's Marc Webb helmed reboot,
The Amazing Spider-Man after that opened earlier this month with a still impressive £11 million. This opening for
The Dark Knight Rises is £4.43 million ahead of both
Batman Begins in 2005 and
