FEATURE: Five Actors Who Could Play DAREDEVIL In The Upcoming Reboot

With 20th Century Fox reportedly under pressure to begin production on Daredevil before the rights revert to Marvel Studios, the question now is who exactly should play "The Man Without Fear" in the planned reboot. Well, here are five of arguably the best choices out there...

Regardless of which studio ends up making Daredevil, it's vital that they find the right actor to bring Matt Murdock to life on the big screen. Back in 2003, Ben Affleck failed to win over the majority of fans and critics, and in the near decade long absence of The Man Without Fear from the big screen, a lot of names have been thrown around as to who exactly should play the iconic Marvel superhero. He may not be as popular as The Amazing Spider-Man, or have action on the scale of The Avengers, but any fan of the character will tell you that a film starring Daredevil has the potential to be one of the best comic book movies ever.

5. MATT DAMON

At 41 years of age, if Matt Damon wants to play a superhero, he needs to seize the opportunity as soon as possible. Is he too old? Not necessarily, as despite its many flaws, the original Daredevil effectively jumped forward in time to an experienced Daredevil, telling his origin story with the use of flashbacks. The actor has shown his action abilities across numerous films (most notably in The Bourne Trilogy) and there can be no doubting the fact that he has the acting chops for a complex character like Matt Murdock. Of all the actors on this list, he perhaps seems the most unlikely to agree to taking the role, although with Jeremy Renner as the new face of Bourne, this could be the perfect franchise for Damon to take over.

4. MICAHEL C. HALL

The Dexter star is a fan favourite for the role of Daredevil among fans, so you might be wondering why exactly his name is so low down on the list. Hall is an incredible actor who hasn't had anywhere near as much time on the big screen as he deserves (although he still managed to be surprisingly good in the unsurprisingly awful Gamer). Instead, Hall has stolen the show in the Showtime series mentioned above and HBO's Six Feet Under. There's no getting around the fact that he would make for a great Daredevil, but are his roles in these shows really enough to prove that he's capable of having an entire franchise based around him? Well, yes, and Fox could do much worse when it comes to their choice of the next Man Without Fear.

3. MICHAEL FASSBENDER

He may already be Magneto in Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class and the tentatively titled sequel, X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but that doesn't mean he can't play Daredevil too! Admittedly, it won't work if Fox are planning a shared universe (doubt it) but if not, then he really would be a perfect choice. After stealing the show in Prometheus and delivering an Oscar worthy performance in Shame, if you don't think that Fassbender would make for an incredible Matt Murdock, then seek help! The only real reason that makes this unlikely is just how busy a schedule he has. Between the X-Men: First Class and Prometheus sequels, as well as several other films he's signed up for - Assassin's Creed for example - he may not have the time for 'ol Hornhead.

2. BRADLEY COOPER

Bradley Cooper's name was first brought up by numerous gossip websites when David Slade signed up to direct the Daredevil reboot (he has since dropped out). While the star of The Hangover franchise may not seem like a fitting choice for the Man Without Fear, a far more serious turn in Limitless last year showed that there's a lot more to him than gross out gags, while The A-Team went a long way in proving his action star credentials. A sequel to that seems extremely unlikely, so if Cooper is looking for a new franchise opportunity, what could be better than a superhero movie? Despite the fact that it would appear as if Fox intend to go the "dark" route for their reboot, the lighter tone in Mark Waid's Eisner Award winning Daredevil series shows that an actor who can bring some humour to the role would be a very good thing indeed.

1. JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT

Say wha-?! Admittedly, Joseph Gordon-Levitt may not seem like the most conventional choice to play Daredevil, but he is perhaps better suited to the role than the rest of the actors on this list combined. That's quite a statement when we're talking about the likes of Michael Fassbender and Matt Damon, but just take a look at some of Levitt's most recent performances in Inception, 50/50 and The Dark Knight Rises. All fantastic, particularly when we're talking about the latter two. This year, he also headlines Looper and Premium Rush. The fact is, the actor is one of the hottest properties in Hollywood right now, and between his popularity and acting skills, his involvement in Daredevil would make the film a surefire hit. Marc Webb owes Fox a movie, right? Could be a great thing for Daredevil fans if the (500) Days of Summer team reunited...

BigeBigzWells - 8/1/2012, 1:18 PM
Wowww let's just put Fassbender in everything -_-

I say Bradley Cooper though. I enjoy JGL but I don't think DareDevil is him.
TheAbomination - 8/1/2012, 1:18 PM
Bradley Cooper for Daredevil.
elcaballerooscuro92 - 8/1/2012, 1:18 PM

Rothwilder - 8/1/2012, 1:18 PM
None of the above
MisterNiceGuy - 8/1/2012, 1:19 PM

TheSkywalkingKnight - 8/1/2012, 1:19 PM
Joseph Gordon Levitt?

I don't know man...
MisterNiceGuy - 8/1/2012, 1:19 PM
whoa is that Bradley Cooper hating? what for?
Toasty - 8/1/2012, 1:20 PM
I say [frick] all these and actually go for an unknown who has the right look/attitude instead of just relying on big names all the [frick]ing time.
ekrolo2 - 8/1/2012, 1:20 PM
Fassbender as Batman and Bradley Cooper as Daredevil.
SmellofDuty - 8/1/2012, 1:21 PM
What about Matthew Fox?
JDUKE25 - 8/1/2012, 1:22 PM
Yeah I can't see JGL as Daredevil. Hall is the best out of this list.

Please Fox, get someone good.....I want a good Daredevil movie!!
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 8/1/2012, 1:22 PM
None of the above?
ShreckGT350 - 8/1/2012, 1:22 PM
All bad choices in my opinion. We want someone young enough that they can play the role for multiple films. Also, lets stay away from picking someone from another comicbook movie. For example, Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern and Deadpool. Baaaaaaad move.
Spidey31 - 8/1/2012, 1:23 PM
Ryan goesling is Matt Murdock you need to add him to this
HelaGood - 8/1/2012, 1:24 PM
none of the above...
if they are smart (but it's FOX, so who am I kidding) they will pick a relatively unknown... like they did with Thor.
SkinnyOne - 8/1/2012, 1:25 PM
How about none of the above
MisterNiceGuy - 8/1/2012, 1:25 PM
wow the casting ideas im hearing are atrocious. i rememebr when there would be some really spot on ideas for possible actor choices (which i swear would sometimes influence the actual casting choice themselves) but people are just getting lazy now. that or nobody reads the comics and have absolutely no idea what the character needs ......sad. and im not talking about the article im talking about the comments.
BmanHall - 8/1/2012, 1:25 PM
Definitely Michael C Hall with Bradley Cooper coming in second. The others are good but, in my opinion, just not right for Matt Murdock.
Tainted87 - 8/1/2012, 1:26 PM
I like Michael C Hall
HelaGood - 8/1/2012, 1:26 PM
how about ...

THIS GUY?!

HelaGood - 8/1/2012, 1:29 PM
or Ders from "Workaholics"

MrBlueSky - 8/1/2012, 1:30 PM
A big NO to Michael C. Hall. He's too old and too creepy looking. I really see any of the others as Daredevil. How about Alex O'Loughin?

SmellofDuty - 8/1/2012, 1:30 PM
Nevermind Matthew Fox is too old. 10 years ago he'd been a great DD.
MidKnight35 - 8/1/2012, 1:31 PM
Yea every one of those are not the right choice. AND on a side note the only time I wanna see Bradley Cooper in a comicbook movie its as a villain. For some reason I think he could pull off a sick villain.
BmanHall - 8/1/2012, 1:32 PM
@ ekrolo2: "Fassbender as Batman"

Are you high? He's a good actor and all, but Batman? No thank you.
Optimus83 - 8/1/2012, 1:32 PM

Patrick Wilson as Matt Murdock/Daredevil
HelaGood - 8/1/2012, 1:34 PM
seriously, guys, and you too @Josh, suggest people who HAVE NOT played a super hero already! broaden your horizons a little!
BattlinMurdock - 8/1/2012, 1:35 PM
Lee Pace. Lee Effin' Pace.

Or Ryan Gosling.
GUNSMITH - 8/1/2012, 1:35 PM
THEY SHOULD GO WITH AN UNKNOWN ACTOR THAT CAN ACT AND CAN DEFINITELY KICK ASS..SOMEONE WHO CAN PULL OFF FIGHTING WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT YOUR TARGET.
HelaGood - 8/1/2012, 1:36 PM
and Damon CANNOT play DD, because his BFF already did.
HelaGood - 8/1/2012, 1:36 PM
@GUNSMITH
YES!
blvdnoise - 8/1/2012, 1:38 PM
No one from this pole will be DareDevil.
BmanHall - 8/1/2012, 1:38 PM
If we are allowed to voice our own opinon, I'll vote for Ron Eldard.

AlexDeLarge87 - 8/1/2012, 1:44 PM
I vote Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama from Battlestar Galactica)
Curmudgeon - 8/1/2012, 1:45 PM
Now all we need is someone to suggest one of the [frick]s from Supernatural or Joe Brickhead-iano from the vampire show and this is exactly like every other [frick]ing thread about casting on this site, ever.
GUNSMITH - 8/1/2012, 1:46 PM
AN GET THIS GUY TO DO THE STUNTING...
CherryBomb - 8/1/2012, 1:48 PM
Alexander Skarsgard

Matt Bomer
marvel72 - 8/1/2012, 1:48 PM
michael c hall or matt damon, fassbender for bullseye.
ElDuce74 - 8/1/2012, 1:50 PM
If Fox is doing it, Ryan Reynolds so it fails miserably and they just decide to give the rights back like they did for Punisher.

And instead of Charlie from Sunny...What about Dennis...And Beefcake Mac for Kingpin?
GoILL - 8/1/2012, 1:50 PM
@GUNSMITH I can agree with that.
LucasMend - 8/1/2012, 1:53 PM
Just because Joseph Gordon Levitt and Fassbender are great, doesn't mean that they're the right choice for such a character as Matt Murdock/Daredevil lol. Hall all the way
RalphieW - 8/1/2012, 1:55 PM
Only one I really like from this list is Michael C. Hall, but I think they should Go with Ryan Gosling, and call me crazy, but I'd rather Fox make this the let the rights go back to Marvel. Marvel .takes better movies sure, but they're rapped up in the Avengers, who knows when they'd get around to making it i.e. Luke Cage, Dr.StrangeIron Fist and many others taking a back seat right now
MisterNiceGuy - 8/1/2012, 1:56 PM
Stephen Dorff anyone?
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/1/2012, 1:59 PM
DragonofDarknessXIII - 8/1/2012, 1:59 PM
Michael C. Hall.
Joker08 - 8/1/2012, 1:59 PM
@yoss:
Joe Anderson has my vote, he would be perfect. Good call.
2Challa - 8/1/2012, 1:59 PM
Why does the same list pop up for every Caucasian hero. Batman, Daredevil, Cyclops all can be the same people.
CBMM1 - 8/1/2012, 2:00 PM
JGL FOR BATMAN REBOOT!!!
