BOX OFFICE: TOTAL RECALL Takes $9.2M On Friday; THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Earns $10.4M
Between the aftermath of the shooting in Aurora, Colorado, and the Olympics, analysts are having a hard time pinning down which film will come out on top this weekend, but it now appears as if The Dark Knight Rises will beat Total Recall for the #1 spot.
On Thursday, a trusted box office analyst had Total Recall down as finishing the weekend in third place, while yesterday's matinee trends had the remake on course to battle it out with The Dark Knight Rises for the top spot. Well, courtesy of Deadline and IMDb, we now have the official figures for Friday which shed some light on how the weekend should play out in North America. Len Wiseman's Total Recall earned $9.2 million, meaning it should gross around $25.5M in total. A Sony spokesperson said, "The film performed in line with tracking and expectations," although a C+ CinemaScore isn't expected to help its chances at exceeding those expectations. Meanwhile, The Dark Knight Rises made an impressive $10.4 million on its third Friday, with an expected weekend gross of around $35 million (taking its domestic cume to north of $353 million).
