The ever reliable @giteshpandya has confirmed via their Twitter account that despite a fairly sizeable 47% drop internationally (perhaps as a result of the release of Seth MacFarlane's Ted), The Dark Knight Rises took $67 million this weekend. That takes it to a total of $378.4 million overseas, and combined with the current domestic total of $354.6 million, that gives Christopher Nolan's epic finale to his Batman trilogy a worldwide cume of $733 million. In North America, The Dark Knight Rises has spent the weekend battling it out with Total Recall, although it still came out on top with an estimated $36.4 million. This officially makes the film the second biggest hit of 2012 behind only The Avengers.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

STARRING:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman

Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Tom Hardy as Bane

Good news for Dc AND Marvel this year!!!
Now we can look forward to more CBM's on more left-field characters being given a chance.
Hollywood likes numbers ...you have given them the numbers and then some.
Well done Nolanites....Congratulations Whedonites.
As a Dreddite, can I humbly ask for your support for the upcoming Dredd?
WinterSoldier24 - 8/5/2012, 11:40 AM
That's cool. It was a pretty good flick. First meeting between Bane & the Batman was perfect. Still liked TASM a tad better. But all around, solid flick.

I'm probly gonna take the wife out to see Total Recall in the coming days. She's got a major thing for Collin Farell & Jessica Biel gives me funny feelings in my pants. So we'll see how it goes. I'll let y'all know, of you care. Lol. I'll even let you know if I get lucky afterward(IF, cause I'm married)
WinterSoldier24 - 8/5/2012, 11:42 AM

Cool. Looks like it's not going to do as well domestically as TDK but it will probably do better internationally to make up for it. Plus, it's actually gonna be released in China, unlike TDK. I think it's great that the two highest grossing movies so far this year are CBMs.
bobevanz - 8/5/2012, 11:50 AM
Hows it feel? ^_^
Jamesx51 - 8/5/2012, 11:50 AM
It was never going to pass The Avengers - go marvel :D
FilmsFan - 8/5/2012, 11:50 AM
Great News!
I hope I does 1 Billion$ worldwide!!

Really a great year for SuperHero films!
Avnegers & TDKR sucess will go a long way in ensuring several small Heros coming to screen!
Marvel is bringing out stuff!
Hope WB/DC soon follow!

& John Carter, Battleship & TotalRecall 's BOMBING is a great news for us.
I do enjoy them but these shit-fest is getting 200+ million$ budget & no one is giving this much to an established ComicBook character!!

Hopefully TDKR's sucess makes way for other DC properties!

As BATMAN is already coming in 2016! (reboot)!!
& as it will be part of DC Universe!
I hope these films happen: (& it's realistically possible)!

1: Man of Steel (summer 2013)!
2: Green Lantern (summer 2015)!
3: FLASH and/or WONDER-WOMAN. (late 2015)!
4: Man of Steel -2. (early summer 2016)
5: BATMAN reboot (late summer 2016)!

6: The Justice League film (summer 2018)!!

I hope it does happen!
Luminescent - 8/5/2012, 11:53 AM
Nice. Also those gifs..Lol, awesome :P
dollstix - 8/5/2012, 11:55 AM
@FilmsFan
Agree with most of what you said but was rather sad that John Carter failed considering the source material and the influence the book had on practically every Space Opera type film since ( and yes I'm looking right at you George Lucas!!!)
95 - 8/5/2012, 11:57 AM
Good to hear.
tonytony - 8/5/2012, 11:57 AM
If it was 3d you could add 25% to that number. Good to see it doing well, roll on superman and flash.
Lego - 8/5/2012, 11:58 AM
congrats to Nolan!

now bring on Man of Steel!
CPBuff22 - 8/5/2012, 12:01 PM
I thought John Carter was easily one of the five best films this year so far. I mean what really was better than it? I would argue Avengers and maybe Amazing Spider-Man. Some on her would argue TDKR and though I don't agree even if that is the case that is only three movies.

What else can you argue for. Not Ghost Rider, Dark Shadows, Total Recall, or Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. As far as kid friendly movies Ice Age & Madagascar sequels were both weak and not nearly as good. So what else is really left?
superbatspiderman - 8/5/2012, 12:04 PM
I think this can reach 1 billion eventually. This movie was excellent and met all of my expectations so I guess my expectations wern't as big as some other people's. The Expendables 2 is the next movie I am excited for.
Cheeze187 - 8/5/2012, 12:11 PM
I'm sure TDKR will be close to a billion. Marvel needs to hire DC's animated team and DC needs to hire Marvel's live action team. With those powers combined it would be EPIC. I also want to see a live action The Boys. NC-17
TheBartmanrises - 8/5/2012, 12:13 PM
great news hopefully it gets more!!
Ryguy88 - 8/5/2012, 12:20 PM
It should make around $100M or so more domestically leaving the international theatres needing to pull in around $150M to bring this to a billion.

Marvel72, are you seriously bragging about your box office prediction? you are probably going to be off as high as 15 or 20%.

misner89 - 8/5/2012, 12:20 PM
my guess is about $950,000,000 maybe even a little less
Ryguy88 - 8/5/2012, 12:22 PM
CPbuff, how about every movie released this year that you didn't mention:)
Bodwulf - 8/5/2012, 12:27 PM
This has been one of the best CBM summers ever.

Obama talks security of U.S.
JDUKE25 - 8/5/2012, 12:31 PM
@Irish lmao those gifs are pretty cool. Tony and Bruce teaming up would be pretty sick.
JDUKE25 - 8/5/2012, 12:31 PM
@Bodwulf sure has, and it's only going to get better.
tazmaniak - 8/5/2012, 12:34 PM
@FilmsFan, from what we've heard, they're making Justice League first. Supposedly in 2015. All solo films will come afterwards.
SAT - 8/5/2012, 12:39 PM
Glad TDKR didnt beat the Avengers, personaly I cant decided which I liked better, but man Batman/DC fan boys & girls are RIDICULOUS!
Bodwulf - 8/5/2012, 12:45 PM
@Jduke25 I agree Iron Man and my fav Thor and Cap all in sequels! Avengers 2 the Hobbit, Man of Steel great time to be a nerd! Not as excited about Guardians and some of the lesser know phase two stuff but I will give them a try. Could be great!
Ryguy88 - 8/5/2012, 12:48 PM
SAT, every fanboy by definition is ridiculous.
Cheeze187 - 8/5/2012, 12:51 PM
The man of Steel trailer disappointed me. Why is he on a shrimp boat, then hitch hiking Bruce Banner style? He's a frickin God and can fly etc. I hope it get's tied in I.E live as a mortal type thing, otherwise it was a garbage ass trailer.
Jayman109 - 8/5/2012, 12:53 PM
OH MY GOODNESS EVERYBODY!!! You won't believe this! The dark knight rises is now at 731 million! Wow!

Is anybody as tired of these articles as I am? Hate to be negative but every day we get a box office update. How about just let us know when it's at a billion?
marvel72 - 8/5/2012, 12:55 PM
@ Ryguy88

how is that bragging? said $850,000,000 from the start,i didn't know the shooting was gonna happen.

as terrible as that was,i thought we've moved on from that.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 8/5/2012, 12:59 PM
