COMICS: First Look At "The New 52" Joker In November's BATMAN Solicitations

It's not quite a full reveal, but the new-look Joker has been revealed on the covers of this November's Batman #14 and Batgirl #14 as a part of the "Death of The Family" crossover which will see the villain return to kill, well, everyone!

It was thought that The Joker might be coming back with an entirely new look later this year, but if the following two images are anything to go by, he'll be wearing the same face as always...albeit with the help of a belt to hold it on (it was actually removed in a shocking twist ending to last September's Detective Comics #1). Comments from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo had led many to speculate that "The New 52" version of the iconic villain may end up resembling perhaps Heath Ledger's take from 2008's The Dark Knight or something totally different, but it definitely appears as if they've gone for the, "If it ain't broke..." approach to his appearance in the rebooted continuity. However, it should be very interesting to see exactly how the fact he's having to hold his face on with what appears to be a belt will play out in this storyline. Check out a couple of images below and be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

BATMAN #14

Backup story art by JOCK
Cover by GREG CAPULLO

• "DEATH OF THE FAMILY" continues!
• The Joker is back and somehow more sinister than ever! What caused this change? And can even Batman stop a Joker so driven and dangerous?
• And where is Alfred?
• Plus: In the backup feature, The Penguin is running out of options as he’s confronted by The Joker!

BATGIRL #14
Written by GAIL SIMONE
Art and cover by ED BENES

• A "DEATH OF THE FAMILY" tie-in as Barbara tries to save her family from a fate much worse than death!
• Has Batgirl come this far just to fall victim once again to The Joker?

SuperSomething616 - 8/13/2012, 9:21 AM
So basically just the same as before but with his skin stretched over his face...ok fair enough...

1 question though why in those TV images is there a picture of Alfred? Wouldnt that be saying The Joker knows who Batman is?
coolguy - 8/13/2012, 9:22 AM
I'm pretty excited for this Snyder and Capullo have been phenomenal. Hopefully this will be even better than the court of owls.
superotherside - 8/13/2012, 9:24 AM
Looks awesome. Batgirl got boring though. Doubt I'll pick up that title again. Got to much other awesome stuff to read. Still picking up Snyder's awesome Batman title though. :)

What I have always loved about the Joker is that the Batman writers have left the idea that he is a clown of mischief and continued down the path that he is a over the top, born and bred, mentally unstable, psychotic genius that is hell bent in destroying everything that Batman, or whomever follows, stands for. So, even with this new look, Joker is an adaptive character and anything, what is seems everything, can happen to him and he still will no loose that quality that makes him the iconic super villain that he is.
ATrueHero1987 - 8/13/2012, 9:35 AM
I'm still catching up on some of these titles, Batman is one of them.
Wingding - 8/13/2012, 9:37 AM
Dang he looks creepy. I hope this new Joker arc isn't just going to be a huge blood bath. Should be good though, I know Scott will deliver. So, why did Joker have his own face cut off just to put it back on? Unless......unless, someone else is wearing his face......? O_o
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 8/13/2012, 9:49 AM
He is back and already causing a shit load of chaos.

Joker has Alfred being monitored? But...why? Unless...

-gasp!-
DanteSparda - 8/13/2012, 10:04 AM
The Joker pulled a leather face!

Looks good so far, I wonder when are we going to see his bare face (or if we will get to see it someday).
Kuffs - 8/13/2012, 10:12 AM
Seeing Batgirl in thé ashes of Joker's mayhen, kind of gives Me Hope he once more crushes her spine, making her paralysed again.
I know that kind of sound like a morbid though, but i Always hated thé idea of makings Babs Walk again. I was never a fan of her as Batgirl to start with, but i loved how thé made her tackle her handicap after "Thé Killing Joke" and how she was forced to evolve herSelf to a New type of crime fighter, creating her Network and Oracle persona.

And doesn't destroying Batgirl one more time spell Joker all over it?
Would surely piss of Batman to have failed to protect Babs two Times over?

ORACLE FOR THÉ WIN!!!

I feel that they might change his face later on as the story progresses. Like, he'll probably find a more permanent solution to keeping his face on besides the belt.
TheDARKestKNIGHT - 8/13/2012, 10:49 AM
I wonder does this mean he'll figure out Bruce is Batman, since he is monitoring Alfred.
jimoakley666 - 8/13/2012, 10:53 AM
Well, that was a bit underwhelming.
Minghagz - 8/13/2012, 10:55 AM
Can't wait! I've been looking forward to this since Detective Comics #1.
Sortis - 8/13/2012, 10:58 AM
Holy crap...what have they done?
AstroZombie - 8/13/2012, 10:58 AM
He looks like Leatherface in that second pic.
Emros - 8/13/2012, 11:09 AM
I believe the Joker knows Batman's identity. He simply doesn't care. In the Joker's twisted mind, Bruce Wayne is the act, the disguise.
I remember a comic from the '80's where Batman is incapacitated, and another villian (the Riddler maybe)says, "Pull of his mask, I want to see his real face1" To which the Joker replies, "Fool! That is his real face!"
GLEthio - 8/13/2012, 11:17 AM
Alfred is the Joker now because he understands that bman's identity is intertwined with the jokers DUN DUN DUN
blvdnoise - 8/13/2012, 11:28 AM
Just a bit Texas Chainsaw ehh?
Asterisk - 8/13/2012, 1:31 PM
ew.

love it, though. Man, people are complaining about nothing, Marvel and DC are rocking it.
bathead - 8/13/2012, 1:49 PM
Batman took his mask off in front of Joker in BATMAN RIP. Morrison said the Joker knowns who Batman is but doesn't care. Maybe they are keeping that storyline into the New 52 universe? I'm not sure I just started reading the new 52 stuff because it took so long for the hardcovers to come out. Either way looking forward to this
TheBatman50k - 8/13/2012, 3:00 PM
I ave though for years that The Joker knows who Batman really is. I even thought he figured it out in The Dark Knight.
ThatOneDude - 8/13/2012, 3:21 PM
Just got Volume 1, and I am phsyched to see Mr. J back!!! He looks so [frick]ed up!!
HeadPool420 - 8/13/2012, 3:51 PM
Looks cool but it reminds me of a skinny Leatherface. Still gonna get it!!!!
Optimus83 - 8/13/2012, 3:54 PM
the Joker is the supervillian in the history. ...equal to Hannibal Lecter
DoomXfactor - 8/13/2012, 4:05 PM
looks badass
aral - 8/13/2012, 4:56 PM
They'll probably will end up giving him a shiny new non bleached face and make up. NOLAN NOLAN CHRIS CHRIS NOLAN NOLAN.
CapeWing - 8/13/2012, 5:44 PM
Wait wait wait, so this is the best DC could do? They get a golden chance to refresh a classic icon and the best they can give us is a face held on with a belt? Why not a whole new face, something more messed up or scary? I mean, sure he look good, but not great. I feel a little let down by the lack of creativity here. I am a loyal fan of Batman and have been since I was 5, so I will give this a chance, I just feel a little let down is all.
TheBlitzkrieg - 8/13/2012, 7:27 PM
did any of you people thinking he knows Batman's identity realize this is a COVER?! The cover doesn't dictate EXACTLY what is going to happen in the story! The arc is called DEATH of the FAMILY, so for an artist motif, it makes sense to include EVERYONE. But that doesn't mean anything when it comes to Batman's identity.
comicb00kguy - 8/14/2012, 6:35 AM
Joker's back? Cool! Hope he can take care of Damien once and for all. The bloodier and more sadistic and violent, the better. This helps to establish just how sick and evil the Joker is in this "new" universe, and it simultaneously helps to dispose of the most unlikable comic character of all time. Win-win, baby.

HellScorpion - 8/15/2012, 12:32 PM
@Emros, That's actually how Batman sees the whole identity thing himself, at least according to Bruce Wayne: Fugitive...
