As you are sure to have heard by now, Tony Scott was identified yesterday as having committed suicide after jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge, which spans San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles. He directed many films over the years, including Top Gun, True Romance, Enemy of the State, Man On Fire, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and Unstoppable. He also produced one of the latest films directed by his brother, Ridley, Promethus, not to mention many, many others. Unfortunately, Tony Scott never got the chance to helm a comic book movie, although he was at one time attached to 24: The Movie and the big screen adaptation of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Nemesis (the rights are still held by his production company and Joe Carnahan (The Grey) is now set to direct). Below, some of Hollywood's finest pay their respects to the filmmaker, and please feel free to do the same in the comment section below.

I actually agree with puyguy

I mean does he want to be mourned if he felt the need to take his own life?

Still sad, fantasic films under his belt, I hope Ridleys okay. May he rest in peace

Jolt17 - 8/20/2012, 6:19 AM
Honestly, I'm still wondering what the reason behind it might be, because..well, that's truly shocking. Regardless of that, though, rest in peace, Tony Scott. My thoughts and prayers go to Mr. Ridley Scott and the whole of his family.
AutobotCommander84 - 8/20/2012, 6:23 AM
I was reading a Wikepedia article about him a couple of days ago. I didn't know he was gonna die! I wonder when we're going to hear from his brother Ridley. R.I.P.

jj72 - 8/20/2012, 6:27 AM
Damn, things must have been pretty bad for him to take his life. Goes to show that you can have all the success and money in the world but when it comes down to it, we're all human and have our own personal demons to deal with. RIP to a great film maker! You truly made some memorable films!
AmericanPsychoWolf - 8/20/2012, 6:32 AM
I can't imagine the grief Ridley must be going through. R.I.P.
SpideyQuad - 8/20/2012, 6:35 AM
Man, true Romance is one of my favorite movies of all time. Hope he's in a better place
LoudLon - 8/20/2012, 6:35 AM
Guy took his own life, willingly. That's not tragic; it's selfish, cowardly and stupid.

My heart goes out to his friends, his family, his wife, his sons, the ones he left behind and who are going to spend the rest of their lives torturing themselves, wondering if there might have been anything they could have done, wondering if it was their fault, wondering why this person they loved disregarded them like this.

They're the ones you folks should feel sorry for. Not the weakling who took the chicken-shit way out.
G3n3r4lzZoD9 - 8/20/2012, 6:43 AM
What LoudLon said.
bagadoosh - 8/20/2012, 6:44 AM

Mysterion - 8/20/2012, 6:44 AM
Man on Fire was one of my favorite movies from the past decade....the dude knew how to make action movies, I love of his movie (even Pelham 123)
R.I.P. Tony Scott.
fettastic - 8/20/2012, 6:48 AM
Man on Fire was the fricken' SHIZNIT! How does a 68 year old man in his position take his own life? Did he have some sort of debt problem? Terminal disease?
fettastic - 8/20/2012, 6:51 AM
Maybe he was an alcoholic or had an anxiety disorder that made him depressed. Hard to believe he could function as a film director with either though, especially at his age.
Matador - 8/20/2012, 6:59 AM
Damn couldn't we trade Death for Michael Bay, Uwe Boll, & Christopher Nolan to get back Tony Scott back?
bestintheworld - 8/20/2012, 7:00 AM
Top Gun is one of my favorite movies of all time, it might even be my #1. Sad day, but suicide is unacceptable. The ultimate cowardice. I've seen first hand the damage it can do to the loved ones left behind, and I'll never understand it. Prayers go out to the family and friends of Tony Scott.
NostalgicYouth - 8/20/2012, 7:00 AM
Well the news or TMZ said that he had a written suicide letter in his Prius not to far from were he jumped.
ElBicho - 8/20/2012, 7:00 AM
So, this is news? Just posting what other people say on Twitter?
bestintheworld - 8/20/2012, 7:01 AM
@Matador

That was a completely classless comment. You should be ashamed of yourself.
NostalgicYouth - 8/20/2012, 7:02 AM
@ Matador well that's kinda harsh
SimyJo - 8/20/2012, 7:06 AM
R.I.P Tony Scott.

R.I.P. Tony Scott!
PapaMidnight - 8/20/2012, 7:28 AM
Some of you guys are unbelievable. Judging someone elses life... pffff.
I don't care if suicide is 'selfish' or 'coward', the guy could be mentally miserable and it's a terrible loss. His career was brilliant and 'The Hunger' is one of my favorite movies. Masterpiece. R.I.P.
Danbojohnj - 8/20/2012, 7:29 AM
Tragic loss.
RIP.
nikgrid - 8/20/2012, 7:30 AM

@FatherMidnight

"Some of you guys are unbelievable. Judging someone elses life... pffff."

"the guy could be mentally miserable"

You just contradicted yourself.
Marvelboyliam1981 - 8/20/2012, 7:37 AM
^^^ couldn't agree more ^^^
HellsHammer - 8/20/2012, 7:38 AM
My heart goes out to those who are suffering on the inside. Be it depression, an illness or their own damn reasons. I lost my cousin to suicide las November, it's something your family and yourself never gets over. My heart goes out to both his family and himself. Rest in peace.
MisterNiceGuy - 8/20/2012, 7:39 AM
Rip.
PapaMidnight - 8/20/2012, 7:40 AM
Nope, what i meant was 'we don't really know to judge'. Sorry if i didn't elaborate the sentence well.
SkateandDestroy88 - 8/20/2012, 7:41 AM
Damn. I Guess money can't buy happiness. This life is just a blink of an eye.
azn197 - 8/20/2012, 7:42 AM

fullmoon106 - 8/20/2012, 7:42 AM
R.I.P Tony Scott.
Tevii - 8/20/2012, 7:43 AM
Well Im not sure why anyone would feel compelled to judge him and call him cowardly and selfish. We dont know his reasons. PERHAPS he was diagnosed with terminal cancer or something and he chose not to go through that miserable experience.
We do not know. So we shouldnt judge.

It sucks he's gone, he was a great filmmaker
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 8/20/2012, 7:46 AM
Me and one of my co-workers were talking about Top Gun last week at work.A classic movie.I just woke up and read this news on my MSN.com home page. This is sad news.
acidbath - 8/20/2012, 7:47 AM
ok you idiots with the suicide is cowardly shit need to stop. Not a one of you would have the balls to end it. Very few people have the balls to end it. If shit is bad enough that you take your own life you are actually quite brave to do it. Selfish perhaps cowardly not at all. and i only say perhaps because the person may not have weighed the options with how it would effect other people against the pain they were feeling. Anyone who calls it cowardice has no clue how bad life can actually be. Physical pain can get to the point that life isn't worth living as can mental disorders. As someone who lives with both daily let me just say you can [frick] off.
gaikinger - 8/20/2012, 7:51 AM
TRUE ROMANCE....one of the best films of all times in my opinion. My stuck on an island with one movie film. One of my top 5 directors. This totally sucks!
GoILL - 8/20/2012, 7:58 AM
R.I.P Mr. Scott.
gaikinger - 8/20/2012, 8:03 AM
Word is he scaled a ten foot fence and jumped without a moments hesitation and left contact list in his Prius.
