Best known for playing Batman in Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns (younger readers may instead remember him from the Academy Award winning Pixar movie Toy Story 3 in which he voiced 'Ken'), Michael Keaton has now joined the cast of RoboCop as the villainous CEO of Omni Corp, 'Raymond Sellars'. "Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets," said director Jose Padilha. The actor will star opposite Joel Kinnaman, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman and Abbie Cornish in the remake. RoboCop is currently expected to be released on August 9th, 2013.

LOL Keaton. Would like to see him play menacing. Or just go Beetlejuice on'em.
NerdyGeek - 8/29/2012, 3:31 PM
Michael Keaton [frick]ing rules!

RunDTC - 8/29/2012, 3:33 PM
let's hope he has more TLC references.
TrueRedBlue - 8/29/2012, 3:36 PM
Keaton!? HAHAHAHAHA
CharlesLord - 8/29/2012, 3:36 PM
Keats FTW. I hope he quotes TLC again *cries*
beane2099 - 8/29/2012, 3:38 PM
Yeah. I can get behind this. Especially if he's playing Clarence Bodiker (or whatever they call him). I could also see him playing Dick Jones. And call me old fashioned, but I still like his Batman best (notice I said Batman. Still liked Nolan's movies better).
jessepostal - 8/29/2012, 3:38 PM
beetlejuice vs robocop :)

SimyJo - 8/29/2012, 3:38 PM

Keaton's Batman was aimless, but he's a good actor.
MisterNiceGuy - 8/29/2012, 3:44 PM
he was hilarious in "The Other Guys"
BooYah - 8/29/2012, 3:45 PM
Where's the poll asking if we'd rather have had Hugh Laurie casted?
thewonderer - 8/29/2012, 3:46 PM
Keaton was a terrible Batman/Wayne imo.

Why? because there was little difference between Batman and Bruce Wayne for him. Its this solemn shit THE WHOLE TIME. Thats Batman, NOT Bruce Wayne. To be Bruce Wayne, you have to portray emotion. You have to act to pull off the diversified feelings of the Bruce Wayne character.

You CANNOT act Batman and Bruce Wayne the same way.

I still CANNOT understand what people see in this guy. He amounted to nothing these days and seeing people prefer him over Bale has me confused.

But yeah, thats me. Keaton sucks
MisterNiceGuy - 8/29/2012, 3:47 PM
you gotta creep....creep

@thewonderer

Sorry, but couldn't disagree more.
RorMachine - 8/29/2012, 3:52 PM
I liked his Batman, have to agree with The Wonderer on his Wayne, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a great performance. But he's brilliant in everything he's in anyway, can't wait to see this.
spidey1994 - 8/29/2012, 3:52 PM
Nice, Love me some Michael Keaton, but is he really called Raymond Sellars and not Dick Jones?
TheHierophant - 8/29/2012, 3:55 PM
@MisterNiceGuy: I dig "The Other Guys," but he was, by far, the funniest part of that movie!!!
Mrcool210 - 8/29/2012, 3:56 PM
he should just play batman playing the villian of robocop
thewonderer - 8/29/2012, 4:00 PM
@IM53

You know, I could understand that....if his Batman didn't throw people off roofs and incinerate thugs
AlexdoxA - 8/29/2012, 4:00 PM
The title is misleading! I really hoped it was Adam West!
Bane2099 - 8/29/2012, 4:01 PM
Now that is some awesome casting, who cares how crappy this movie could turn out...Imma go see it just for Keaton
Jokerzreality - 8/29/2012, 4:03 PM
Great... He is a great actor, i want to see him in more movies!
Screwger - 8/29/2012, 4:04 PM
F.A.Q. Yeah !!!
Bane2099 - 8/29/2012, 4:04 PM
Mr. Keaton: PLEASE MORE TLC REFERENCES LoL
superpooper - 8/29/2012, 4:06 PM
@the wonderer It's because he was the first to portray that type of Batman on screen. No one knew quite what to expect when Keaton was announced for the role, and since he had primarily been a comedic actor prior to that, I for one expected it to suck. The man blew it out of the park. I guess you had to be there. Just picture Adam West's Batman as the only Batman we'd seen on film before Keatons' and you'll understand why we like him so much.
CherryBomb - 8/29/2012, 4:07 PM
My favourite! <3
MMMM, I love him.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/29/2012, 4:08 PM
Now thats a villain!

Hope the movie has good story.
megabatfan - 8/29/2012, 4:08 PM
@thewonderer
You're the first person I've EVER heard make such a statement. Even my non comic book friends credit him for his portrayal. They hold him second to Bale (& Bale only wins because he has the looks & physical stature)
xXkryptoniteXx - 8/29/2012, 4:08 PM
His great and I'm happy that he well be the villain in this robocop movie, he can act menacing.
Ranger14 - 8/29/2012, 4:09 PM
When it said a former Batman I figured it would have to be Keaton. I wouldn't go as far to say he is best known for his role of Batman, though that may be true within the CBM world. Amongst the average person I would say he is more known for Beetlejuice, Mr. Mom and one of my favorites, Night Shift. All opinion, I guess.

I also disagree with thewonderer, but most of what he throws out here I disagree with. :-P
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/29/2012, 4:09 PM
Rated-R please!:)
Ranger14 - 8/29/2012, 4:11 PM
Well, I guess with us older folk we would recognize Keaton more for Night Shift and Mr. Mom. :-P
lokibane2012 - 8/29/2012, 4:17 PM
@darkmetal

at least he wasn't a quitter...
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 8/29/2012, 4:18 PM
He cant be the villain, hes Batman.
RipperSavage - 8/29/2012, 4:18 PM
@thewonderer That's a great point.
Keaton's Batman was really Burton's and WB's idea of what was needed for a hit film. And Burtons Batman didnt even have the depth of the Batman from the animated series.
Burton's was the live action version at the time but was more of a cartoon than the 90's Animated Series.

Burton/WB's Batman was a typical smart mouth guy giving us one liners as he wandered through some action scenes. That Batman was essentially the same guy as Roger Moore's Bond, most 80's Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Seagal and etc., action movie characters. He was a complete generic product used in most action films at the time.

He wasn't even Batman. Just a costume.
thewonderer - 8/29/2012, 4:20 PM
I just feel like everyone praises anything Batman 89 because of nostalgia

Kind of like Dragon Ball Z, which people spout is the best anime ever....but thats only because people grew up with it. Don't get me wrong, DBZ was badass but honestly not best anime ever material.

And I don't agree with the "first interpretation" gets a pass on quality. I mean obviously SOME things are fair game...but really? INCINERATING A PERSON! I mean when would Batman do that.

And its not like Burton HAD to put that in there. In a way, he went out of his way to show Batman torching that guy.

Idk, if you guys like him, more power to you. I just despise him a ton
blkyank - 8/29/2012, 4:22 PM
The best Batman/Bruce Wayne has to be Val Kilmer.

Nipples aside, his Batman was a true hero,a real detective, had flashy hand to hand combat skills, designed his own gear and could be understood talking with a mask.

Kilmer's Bruce Wayne was a true man about town who pulled off the playboy with nice toys and a pretty girl on his arm when in public look that is a cover to throw off people from even thinking he would be Batman.

Nobody would ever think Kilmer's Wayne could be Batman because he pulled off
the "man who has everything" persona so well.

Bales Wayne was terrible. He never captured the tabloid star public persona of Wayne
which is a creation to throw off suspicion from the only man in Gotham with the money and motivation to war on crime dressed as a bat. Instead,Bale gave us a Wayne any person with common sense would have to suspect is Batman.

Hell,a simple accountant was able to piece together the money trail and RND work
in TDK to figure only Wayne tech could build the Tumbler.

The big giveaway was in TDKR when Wayne became a shut in with a cane the same time Batman disappeared.

Are we to believe that only Blake could figure that out and Gordon couldn't.

What happened to the Batman task force Gordon put together in TDK?

Did it just go away after Dent died and Batman became public enemy number one?

Batman Forever was over the top but it had a better Batman/Bruce Wayne.
RipperSavage - 8/29/2012, 4:28 PM
@lokibane2012 If you are referring to Bale's Batman quitting for 8 years, I don't see how thats relevant to Keaton's. And Keaton wasn't responsible for the bad writing or directing in Burton's films. So I'm not critiquing him, just the poorly conceived part and films.

Bale's Batman, good or bad, had no retro impact on the quality of Burton's Batman.

As for Nolan/Bale's Batman, he was done perfect in Batman Begins but Nolan is hung up on the idea of piling problems and obstacles all over the protagonist and his Batman was a victim in the last 1.5 of the Trilogy.
If you think about it, Nolan's Batman became "Kick-Ass" or the more apt name given by "Big-Daddy": "Ass-Kick".
Kick-Ass tried to be a real superhero and got his ass handed to him.
Nolan's Batman tried to be a superhero and got his ass handed to him.
