Henry Pym Faces Off Against Ultron In FAN MADE Still From THE AVENGERS Sequel

Joss Whedon's sequel to Marvel's The Avengers is over two and a half years away, but that hasn't stopped one extremely talented artist putting together a clever fan-manip which sees Henry "Hank" Pym (Ewan McGregor) facing off against the villainous Ultron. Check it out!

We've featured deviantART user SkinnyGlasses's work here on CBM quite a few times in the past, although this particular manip caught my eye while browsing through his impressive library of work tonight. While it's a fairly simple idea, the extremely convincing still pits two of Marvel's most iconic characters against one another. If Ewan McGregor had actually been cast as Henry Pym/Ant-Man and Ultron had been confirmed as the villain in the Joss Whedon helmed sequel, then it wouldn't be at all hard to imagine that many would assume this is official! What do you guys think? Is this a scenario that you would like to see in the follow-up to this year's critically acclaimed billion dollar blockbuster? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place and be sure to check out more of SkinnyGlasses's work by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

I Want Thanos in AV2, and want THIS in AV3!! Then have Kang reboot and shake it all up for the next trilogy. Great find Josh!!
JDUKE25 - 9/1/2012, 5:33 PM
Meh.... Not that impressed. Wouldn't mind seeing Ewan in Avengers 2 though.

Not somebody I'd considered as Hank Pym, but I would't argue casting Ewan McGregor in anything.

Since this is destined to turn into an fancasting thread, let me cast my vote for Neil Patrick Harris for Ant-Man:

Haha, pretty cool.

I saw this in Fan Fic several weeks ago. A good picture nonetheless.
BB - 9/1/2012, 5:42 PM
this was on fan fic months ago...facepalm
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 9/1/2012, 5:43 PM
Wonder if and when they do Ultron, if it will essentially be Jarvis off the cuff/unleashed; Haywire.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 9/1/2012, 5:43 PM
GODDAMMIT

PaulRom - 9/1/2012, 5:44 PM
This pic convinced me that McGregor would be a fantastic Pym. Always like him for Green Arrow, but he'd probably be even better as Ant-Man.

@Josh Wilding

SkinnyGlasses posted his concept design awhile back

RexDartEskimoSpy - 9/1/2012, 5:45 PM
Is Ewan McGregor too old to play Matt Murdock?
IronLeprechaun - 9/1/2012, 5:46 PM
THis was already posted... but pretty cool stuff...
IronLeprechaun - 9/1/2012, 5:46 PM
@Rex, I have no clue but he would make a kick ass Matt murdock!
RexDartEskimoSpy - 9/1/2012, 5:48 PM
Wiki says Ewan's 41. Might work if they adapted Frank Miller's Born Again.
Joker08 - 9/1/2012, 5:52 PM
Never thought of Ewan for Pym but he would be absolutely perfect. He'd be a great addition to the rest of the cast.
AlexDeLarge87 - 9/1/2012, 5:53 PM
I would be happy if McGregor would play Pym. Or Daredevil.

Ewan´s over forty but that didnt stop Downey Jr.
Plus Ewan has those same genes like Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp which makes him look forever same age. ;)
Christuffer - 9/1/2012, 5:53 PM
Wow. Great casting
JatevinM - 9/1/2012, 5:54 PM
I'd watch Antman of Ewan McGregor was in it
TayDee - 9/1/2012, 6:08 PM
He doesn't look like a good Pym
CubanRaftRider - 9/1/2012, 6:20 PM
I'm sold
jimpinto24 - 9/1/2012, 6:27 PM
I'm all for it.
AutoFreek - 9/1/2012, 6:27 PM
I'd go for Egg-head as the villain. Afterall who cares about realism anymore, right?
pintoman - 9/1/2012, 6:28 PM
If, then if, and if that happened, then if...
BIGBMH - 9/1/2012, 6:32 PM
Very cool, but it looks a little too much like the Iron Man helmet. I think Ultron would make a good villain for the movie, but with the Thanos setup, it would be pretty difficult to do both well.
Ha1frican - 9/1/2012, 6:33 PM
This was on here like months ago, but anyway Patrick Wilson for Hank Pym and Natha Fillion fo Scott Lange. It seems from the way Edgar Wright has talked about Ant-Man that is will include the "To Steal an Ant-Man" story as well so odds are Lange will end up in Avengers not Pym
Ha1frican - 9/1/2012, 6:37 PM
@BIGBMH uhh thats because it IS and Iron Man helmet lol
xNightwingx - 9/1/2012, 6:51 PM
Grif, Why don't you have a doctor remove whatever it is that is clearly stuck so far up your ass that is gonna have to be removed surgically and lighten up? Do you like anything? All that hate will only breed suffering. For you!!
MJPETTY7 - 9/1/2012, 6:54 PM
Looks awesome!!! I wish that this was real, but alas, it is not... :(
ThePowerCosmic - 9/1/2012, 7:03 PM
Ultron will be Phase 3. There is no way they are setting up Thanos for Avengers 3. That would be way too early. Ant-man will hint at Pym creating Ultron, and we will get a mid credit scene in Avengers 2 with Ultron being Activated.

You heard it here first.
backup - 9/1/2012, 7:05 PM
After watching the avengers i thought it would have been cool to tease a hero too
CBM needs a mobile site.
SkinnyGlasses - 9/1/2012, 7:10 PM
Well wow. I really didn't expect this.
I'm trying to stay calm, but this site means a lot to me and to see a post like this on your front page is phenomenal.

I really can't even begin to describe how grateful I am for a show of support like this. Seriously, this is awesome of you guys.

RSDhillon - 9/1/2012, 7:40 PM
Really awesome. If you didn't point out it was fan-made, I'd have gone bonkers.

Also, Neil Patrick Harris can't be Ant-Man, he needs to be Barry Allen!!
TheSoulEater - 9/1/2012, 8:05 PM
I'd be alright with that
PersonaPostOvo - 9/1/2012, 8:19 PM
That actually looks authentic. Good job on the creator! It looks like a promo still of the film that would be found on the site after it is found on Entertainment Weekly.
lapress - 9/1/2012, 8:21 PM
hopefully, someone at marvel likes this idea as much as we do!
CharlesTheIncredible - 9/1/2012, 8:34 PM
thats pretty awesome

Great choice for Henry Pym
Optimus83 - 9/1/2012, 9:06 PM
Good Fan-Art from The Avengers 2. ...
TheBlitzkrieg - 9/1/2012, 10:49 PM
Well this story would be what Joss Whedon would want to do. To quote the director, he wanted Avengers 2 to be a "Smaller, more character based film." Well, such a story between Ultron and Pym, Product and Creator, WOULD be a smaller story, but also one where the Avengers would have to come together because at the end of the day it's still Ultron. So while Pym can be explained as a molecular scientist who learned how to alter his own matter, hence why he's Ant-Man/Giant Man, he also created Ultron to want to get away from the whole idea of being "Ant Man" which leaves him a sour taste in his mouth.

It would be perfect for "a second act" for the Avengers and then wrap it all up with Thanos in a very Return of the Jedi fashion. The reason Star Wars (particularly the original trilogy mind you, though I am a fan of all 6 films) works as a trilogy is because act 1 sets up the scope of the universe, act 2 is much more personal and pretty heavy, ultimately between the father and the son, which is fitting for Ant Man and Ultron, though ultimately the father is the hero and the "son" is the villain in this piece, with Act 3 being the big destroyer in the universe, with would be the Emperor (or in this case Thanos) and why he'd be the third act because of how BIG MUTHER[frick]ING SCALE he is. Also wouldn't that be a kicker. Ultron created the Vision, and everyone wants Coulson to come back AS the Vision, well, what if in Act 3, Ultron is ultimately the "Darth Vader" aka. THE PUPPET to Thanos. It'd totally work!
