Talking to Comic Book Resources, writer Brian Michael Bendis has talked about the significance of Miles Morales receiving Peter Parker's web-shooters from his Aunt May in today's Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #14. This is obviously a major development in the development the character who took the mantle of 'Spider-Man' after Peter died at the hands of the Green Goblin in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #160. The writer also comments on the introduction of 'Maria Hill' in the Ultimate Universe and teases Miles' upcoming battles with Venom and other well-known villains. The full interview can be read by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.

On What It Means For Miles Morales To Be Given The Web-Shooters From May Parker:

This is a cool moment for Miles. It's like being handed Excalibur because he's not just getting web-shooters, he's getting Peter's web-shooters. It's funny, a lot of people wanted this to happen in 'Spider-Men.' I got letters saying, 'Just have him hand over the web-shooters.' It's funny because I thought about it and went, 'Peter needs his web-shooters.' Just because you meet someone you like doesn't mean you give them your car. How is he supposed to get home? So it didn't seem appropriate for the Marvel Universe Peter to hand over his web-shooters, but it did let Aunt May see Peter with Miles," Bendis continued. "She was focused on Peter, but Miles was there too. So there's Aunt May looking at Miles a little differently and thinking, 'My Peter would want him to have these.'

On How They Will Continue To Differentiate Miles Morales From Peter Parker:

This whole idea came years ago from Mark Bagley. Once we passed our first story line in 'Ultimate Spider-Man' he said, 'I've done 'Amazing Spider-Man' for years before I was on this book and this character is a different person. He's skinnier and younger. He's got a different energy level. So he'll look different when he does things like swing or walk up a wall. Plus for my own sanity, and so I'm not drawing the same thing over and over again, I'll be using different camera angles than what you're used to seeing in 'Amazing Spider-Man.' So if you really look at those first 40 issues of 'Ultimate Spider-Man' you'll see Bagley always came up with a new way to draw Spider-Man and it was pretty cool. We're going to use that philosophy with Miles. He's a different person with a different physicality.

On How Miles Morales Will Manage Without Web-Fluid Cartridges:

Peter was a scientific genius and he invented the web fluid and all that. Miles is a very nice guy and very smart, but he doesn't have Peter's scientific acumen. So even though he's handed the web-shooters, a couple cartridges of web-fluid, and the formula it's not going to be easy for Miles and his friend Ganke to make web fluid. So I'm going to have a whole lot of fun with that. It's going to cost them a lot of their allowance money just to make web fluid. So webs are going to be relatively expensive for Miles. He's going to have to think about how he uses them. Peter kind of used them a little more frivolously. That's not going to be the case for Miles, which I think will be a lot of fun.

On Introducing Maria Hill To The Ultimate Universe:

I was thrilled to discover that Ultimate Maria Hill had not been introduced yet, and I was amazed that I hadn't introduced her before. So she comes in and she's an ex- S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who is now a homicide detective. We're going to find out why she's no longer part of the organization and her investigation into the Prowler's death brings a lot of danger close to home for Miles.

On Bringing Back Classic Villains Like Venom And Miles Morales' First Love Interest:

We're debuting a new Venom story line for Miles, and issue #16.1 is our big prelude to that story. So in the grand tradition of a Point One it's certainly an excellent hopping on point. It sets up everything about Miles and big mysteries about what's going on with Venom and stuff like that. If you've been following 'Ultimate Spider-Man' this whole time and know the whole Venom story you're good to go and here's a new chapter in it. And if you don't know anything you're just like Miles, so you're in good hands. Now that Miles has set up what his status quo will be, we can start bringing in some new elements, some brand new villains, and some classic Spider-Man villains for him to discover. We thought Venom was a perfect place to start. So while Miles and Ganke try to figure out web fluid there's going to be a lot for Miles to deal with. And we'll have Miles' first love interest coming very soon. Sara made me wait until she came back to the book to debut her.

CLONEKEV

Is that a racist remark? Sure does seem like one...............
KidGoku - 9/5/2012, 4:39 PM
@CloneKev

even though you're joking, that still wasn't cool dude. i take offense to that a lot.
KidGoku - 9/5/2012, 4:40 PM
Anyway, I'm loving this run of Ultimate Spider-Man! Hope it keeps getting better!
angus666 - 9/5/2012, 4:43 PM
I haven't been following this lately... Seems like a good time to start.

Guys I'm sure @CloneKev was joking, take it easy.
laughterman26 - 9/5/2012, 4:45 PM

OdinsBeard - 9/5/2012, 4:48 PM

OdinsBeard - 9/5/2012, 4:49 PM

CoolantTech - 9/5/2012, 4:54 PM
Wow...CloneKev that was pretty archaic of you

Knightrider - 9/5/2012, 4:59 PM
Sorry haven't been following ultimate spidy. So has Miles not had webbing before this did he not webswing
Emanuel14 - 9/5/2012, 5:00 PM
THWIP!!
damntree - 9/5/2012, 5:01 PM
Well at least he doesn't have to steal bikes anymore to get around.
ColonelKilgore - 9/5/2012, 5:08 PM
whats with the stupid thwip! spelled out in webbing? its like they think everyone who reads this is 5.

AshleyWilliams - 9/5/2012, 5:26 PM
Peter isn't dead.
Jollem - 9/5/2012, 5:33 PM
"thwip" in the webbing is pretty cool. think that's the first time i've ever seen that

racism is for ignorant, backwards people :)

@CloneKev

>puts wink at the end
>thinks that it makes his comment seem less offensive

They need to kill this character hardcore.
Tymminator - 9/5/2012, 6:09 PM
I hate they killed Peter, but Miles really grew on me. In fact, he's the only cool thing about the Ultimate Universe. With Miller gone, it ain't the same and Loeb killed just about everyone else in his stories.
BIGBMH - 9/5/2012, 6:23 PM
A little confused by this. I'm pretty sure Miles doesn't have web shooters in Spider-men, but it seemed like he had already met Aunt May.
Luminus - 9/5/2012, 6:28 PM
@CloneKev: Racist and pathetic.

Anyway, how can Miles have a love interest? He's 13! And Venom? Miles is green as they come. Venom would eat him alive. Venom nearly eats Parker's experienced Spider-Man alive every time they fight.
G3n3r4lzZoD9 - 9/5/2012, 6:31 PM
@CloneKev

"P.S Kids Don't steal? Any implied racism is in your own guilty white liberal minds."

Then why was the wink at the end?
How old do you [frick]ing think we are?
At first I wasn´t really fazed, since I thought you were just say that in a joking manner but after seeing your second comment I think it´s pretty obvious what your real intentions were, and they were not the best.
Jimdlux - 9/5/2012, 6:34 PM
And then Spiderman truly died...
hYPE - 9/5/2012, 6:37 PM
@CloneKev dude you cracked me up yo! "I'm surprised he didn't steal them." lol man that had me laughing!
ajmathew80 - 9/5/2012, 6:37 PM
@CloneKev douche bag racist POS!!!
Luminus - 9/5/2012, 6:39 PM
@CloneKev: I don't drink or do drugs, you racist.
ajmathew80 - 9/5/2012, 6:43 PM
clonekev is just a redneck right-wing loser. enjoy staring at the black president for the next four years. i love it when racist rednecks like you have to confront the fact that the POTUS is black. hahaha!!!! deal with it loser, four more years!!!!
G3n3r4lzZoD9 - 9/5/2012, 6:44 PM
@CloneKev
The underlying racism in your comments is almost palpable.
TheRationalOne - 9/5/2012, 6:46 PM
CloneKev - What about any of these comments led you to believe that everybody here is a "drunk" or a "druggie"? You sound like an ignorant young asshole right.

On the topic, I don't read Miles Morales so I would like two questions answered: What storyline was he introduced so I can buy the TPB? And how does he get around? I just assumed since he was a "Spiderman" he had webs, whether shooters or organic. I guess I was wrong.
Luminus - 9/5/2012, 6:48 PM
Miles jumps and crawls.
G3n3r4lzZoD9 - 9/5/2012, 6:55 PM
"Or he can admit we're all bias, bigoting assholes to at least one undeserving group of people. Why try hiding it?"

SageMode - 9/5/2012, 6:56 PM
Someone get this racist piece of shit, aka CLONEKEV, banned.
Luminus - 9/5/2012, 6:57 PM
There's at least 2 other people in this thread dying for attention as they add to the noxious steam of CloneKev's post. Pathetic.
G3n3r4lzZoD9 - 9/5/2012, 7:04 PM
@SuspenseSmith
The problem here is this, I´m black and I still laughed at the joke but knew people would get butt-hurt, a joke is a joke,but what threw me off was why didn´t he say "hey people chill it´s a joke" why did he instead lie saying he meant that because Miles is a kid, even though he put a wink at the end of his first comment?
Luminus - 9/5/2012, 7:10 PM
@SuspenseSmith: You have no understanding of context, do you? Wow, it's like trying to explain to a child why making jokes about raping women is wrong.

I'm black and didn't laugh at the joke, because it was clearly racist and not funny.
damntree - 9/5/2012, 7:11 PM
Eh if some comedian would have made the joke you'd all be laughing your asses off. So what you're prejudice against people who aren't comedians? [frick] off you PC [foo foo]s and get over yourselves. You're all prejudice and racist in some way. The dude was obviously just making a joke then simply turned your own racism around on you. He didn't say "surprised he didn't steal them because he's black." He said, "surprised he didn't steal them." Like he said he could've just meant because he's a kid. You attached your own racial bias to his comment. YOU saw it as racist; YOU filled in that blank because YOU are racist. Good day hypocrites.
Luminus - 9/5/2012, 7:13 PM
Correction: 3 people dying for attention.
G3n3r4lzZoD9 - 9/5/2012, 7:13 PM
@damntree

God your a [frick]ing idiot, did you know what context is?
G3n3r4lzZoD9 - 9/5/2012, 7:14 PM
Hey Luminus just give up on them, they don´t understand the concept of context, and obviously haven´t read his latter comments.
