No Director's Cut Of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES On The Way

Did you REALLY think there was going to be a Director's Cut of The Dark Knight Rises? Seriously?! Well, Christopher Nolan's reps have confirmed that the recent rumours are false and that there are no plans for an extended version of his third and final Batman movie.

There's literally no reason to think that a Director's Cut of The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released either now or before Man of Steel next June (as has been recently rumoured). There are often very few deleted scenes featured on the home releases of Christopher Nolan's films, so why anyone would believe that he'd have enough left over footage to warrant an even longer version of his final Batman film - which was nearly three hours anyway - is more than a little hard to understand. Well, The Playlist have reached out to Nolan's reps and were told that, "...no such plans exist, and reports of an extended cut of the film are incorrect." Are you disappointed by this news or was the theatrical cut more than enough for you? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

STARRING:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman
Michael Caine as Alfred
Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Tom Hardy as Bane
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate
Josh Pence as Ra's Al Ghul

RELEASE DATE: Out Now!

well, that sucks

dezdigi - 9/12/2012, 6:53 AM
Well, no sh*t! Too bad though, I would have liked to see that Bane scene everyone was talking about.

Oh yeah, and TDKR sucked, blah, blah, blah, blah!
Is that what you're looking for Cipher?
charlie2094 - 9/12/2012, 6:55 AM
Not surprised, but would've liked to have seen the Bane origin that was talked about.
JerseyJoker - 9/12/2012, 6:58 AM
Good. The overrated film was already to long, no need for an extra half hour of more plot holes.
Tainted87 - 9/12/2012, 7:01 AM
Not disappointed, it was way too long anyway.
ironpool007 - 9/12/2012, 7:04 AM
Just give me a nice box set of the trilogy with loads of features, and I'll be in my glory.
billytwohats - 9/12/2012, 7:05 AM
Saw it in IMAX and I was blown away. Ah well there goes the last decent DC movie. Bring on the clusterf*ks Warner.
SUPERSHADOWBAT - 9/12/2012, 7:07 AM
Not Surprising. I liked TDKR the way it was.
marvel72 - 9/12/2012, 7:21 AM
good film but if i had trouble sleeping i would of brought the directors cut. :D
Sourpatch64 - 9/12/2012, 7:29 AM
I wish there was a director's cut. The finished product was so friggin bad. I saw it a second time to make sure, and it was still just as bad. I saw Arbitrage last night, and that was a much better movie (different genre, sure). Better acting, writing, pacing, everything. Le Sigh. Christopher Nolan's final film in the Batman series ended up being the worst one he has made :(
HRDWYR - 9/12/2012, 7:35 AM
I love armchair directors/critics... I'm not a "nolanite", but if you can make a better film, get off your collective butts and DO something about it instead of crying...just my two cents...hugs, lol
xfactor - 9/12/2012, 7:44 AM
well surprise surprise
xfactor - 9/12/2012, 7:45 AM
the movie was great anyways, adding more stuff would've been too much already with the movie being damn near three hours long.
GoILL - 9/12/2012, 7:47 AM
@MrEko

That shit was too funny. As far as this news goes i'm cool with no director's cut but I would've welcomed one if it were true.
GodzillaKart - 9/12/2012, 7:49 AM
I enjoyed the movie in the theater...but don't think I'll be watching it again director's cut or no.
superpooper - 9/12/2012, 7:51 AM
Who cares. Movie was guano.
Fogs - 9/12/2012, 7:51 AM
Nah, that's OK. Movie was fine without the director cut.

Maybe they can release a scene or two explaining how bruce got back to gotham after escaping the prison and WHY did he fake his death? Cause seriously, noone knew he was batman, why fake his death in the first place? Just to hurt his friends?
RedLanternsFan - 9/12/2012, 7:52 AM
Am i the olny one who likes that movie
Aeyan - 9/12/2012, 8:06 AM
I told you so...
Moving right along, I thought the movie was entertaining, but had WAY too many plot holes. Nolan should know better than to release a film in that kind of shape. As I said before, if you were to make a comparison between this and the Star Wars trilogy, I'd say this was Nolan's ROTJ. I left the theater feeling good about it. I even picked up a copy of the novel to see if it provided anymore insight. Nevertheless it did not. TDK was the best product hands down.
lokibane2012 - 9/12/2012, 8:07 AM
why is this still being discussed? he's said that there'd be no director's cuts since the beginning. and by beginning, i mean back when batman begins came out.
GodzillaKart - 9/12/2012, 8:07 AM
@dgabbor: I agree this was a good movie, and the second best in the trilogy. The only one that truly sucked was Batman Begins.
SiriusC - 9/12/2012, 8:09 AM
I really really disliked this movie. I was planning on seeing it twice, but decided it was too long to sit through again. And that god-awful prison mid-section. BUT I would go to see an extended cut of this. I know that's kind of a contradiction, but I think there's a good movie in there somewhere. They should have had Bane's origin in there. To do the same basic "mystery" as they did with the Joker was a mistake. This time... show us.
scoobyjas - 9/12/2012, 8:13 AM
First time post, so be gentle...

Liked the movie, didn't love it. Nolan made his own Batman, so he was true to his creation, however, for fans of the Batman in the comics, like me, I didn't like what he did with the character. So making a director's cut would've just added insult to injury.

BTW, have you guys seen the "How it should have ended" on TDKR? Hilarious!

@scoobyjas: "Nolan made his own Batman, so he was true to his creation, however, for fans of the Batman in the comics, like me, I didn't like what he did with the character".

I agree 100%.
GoILL - 9/12/2012, 8:21 AM
@RedLanternsFan

Not at all, being a Marvel guy since childhood I grew up loving one DC character and that was Batman. I had no problem with the Nolan films, you have to look at it for what it was and that was an interpretation of the character.
AnotherSinisterClone - 9/12/2012, 8:24 AM
the only reason this rumor is being reported is because then the page gets to have ads on it. making $$$. make a B.S./ Rumor page, this doesnt belong on the front page.
Fogs - 9/12/2012, 8:28 AM
Movie was great IMO. I just had those doubts I posted above.

@scoobyjas - welcome and agreed!
LAWLZY96 - 9/12/2012, 8:29 AM
Damn. The movie felt like there were scenes removed. I really wanted to see the uncut version.
SecretApprentice71 - 9/12/2012, 8:35 AM
I'm not too disappointed, as it has been pointed out, the movie had what it needed. But i'm with you guys, i would just like to see a couple of deleted scenes
Luminescent - 9/12/2012, 8:45 AM
Not that fussed about it. Like others have said, the movie is looooong.
Saw TDKR 8 times...still the best CBM of 2012..Best CBM trilogy.
thewonderer - 9/12/2012, 8:48 AM
Best CBM of 2012, and Nolans Trilogy together stand as some of the best movies ever made let alone best CBMs of all time

IPHONE 5 IS [frick]ING TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!111
DarthBob - 9/12/2012, 9:01 AM
A director's cut wouldn't make this POS any better. How about a director's cut that shows a Batman movie that is actually about Batman?
thewonderer - 9/12/2012, 9:08 AM
@Darthbob

How about an Avengers movie based on actual comic storylines

Loki controlling Thano's army totally happened in the comics.

Azazel1 - 9/12/2012, 9:20 AM
Awesome film, but it would have been a bad idea anyway..
Nubase - 9/12/2012, 9:35 AM
the movie made over a billion and still counting with all the haters still hating it!

Tired of seeing the same old posts on here, time for something new, 2013 can't come soon enough
Ranger14 - 9/12/2012, 9:43 AM
I don't think I will ever watch the film again at its original length, so doubtful adding more to it would help at all...for me.

thewonderer@ I can point out countless things in TDKR that didn't happen in the comics. Big deal. Loki has been known in the comics to control individuals and armies, so there is nothing that goes against the nature of Loki in the comics in regard to him controlling Thanos' army in the film.

...and at least, when you look at Loki in the films, you know he is Loki from the comics.
