COMICS: More Marvel NOW! Variant Covers Tease The New NEW AVENGERS Team

Marvel has released a selection of variant covers for some of their upcoming NOW! series', although a fun cover by Skottie Young may reveal some of the heroes who will make up the roster of Jonathan Hickman's New Avengers.

The first Marvel NOW! variant cover featured below is for Uncanny Avengers, but as you can see, the second one for Jonathan Hickman's New Avengers features Black Bolt, Black Panther, Iron Man and Mister Fantastic. This is possibly a hint that the series will focus on some of Marvel's smartest and most important heroes rather than the street level characters that Brian Michael Bendis put the spotlight on. Below that is another of Young's baby variants for an upcoming issue of the main Avengers series and an Uncanny X-Men #20 variant which seemingly reveals that Cyclops will be facing off against Captain America and Wolverine in the aftermath of Avengers Vs. X-Men.

Scarlet Witch can now be officially considered part of the NEW 52! I think . . . I'm beginning to rue the day that comic book movies became popular. Gone is my Hawkeye. Gone is Iron Man. Here to stay are 9 or 10 Hulks (i've lost count). Gone is respected Spiderman (within the MU). Get off my lawn, you damn kids!!!

Iron Man under Fraction was one of the best, if not THE best Iron Man run EVER. and Gillen's will no doubt be at least as good. Spiderman isn't respected? what the hell? Slott's Spiderman has always been off the chain. He had a whole issue of AVX dedicated to him. It sounds like you don't even read a single thing. GOD FORBID they bring a costume into the current century, jeezus man.

Yes, it's lot's of fun to re-iimagine what costumes would look like in the real world. I thought that's what the Ultimate universe was for. But as fun as that is (to look at also), there's literally no good reason to alter designs that are iconic. Otherwise it feels like we're just watching the MU from some alternate dimension. If we follow the "needs an update" logic OR the "they need to be better protected" theory, then the Black Widow, who get's into fights as much as Cap, should also have a helmut, along with a kevlar suit. But THAT's where they'll draw the line. So . . .until Black Cat zips up or Wonder Woman wears armor (WITH PANTS) . . . give me back my Scarlet Witch.

At least the art looks great. I can't help but love all the Babies covers. Let me say though that the Uncanny Xmen cover looks amazing. I'm not sure who the guys is with the trench coat and the fadora behind Cyclops on the left. Love Collosus raging. Correct me if I'm wrong but can't Cyke's blasts bend adamantium. I swear it can. Meaning, swipe your little claws at me but I'm gonna blast you back to Canada and you're gonna have a hell of a time healing. Anyway, looks great.

Pandering to the possibility of presenting realistic look to the masses. Comic's are fantasy. They need to be "realistic." Hawkeye's EXCELLENT comic series would still be excellent without the Jeremy Renner inspired outfit. Iron Man's armor change's every third issue. It's like looking at XO-Manowaror any over armored image character from the 90's. Fraction's writing IS the best thing to happen to Iron Man in years. But I'm referring only to the constantly changing look. Again, Slott's (AS) and Bendis' (Avenger's Spidey) have been some excellent read's. Here I did veer off course a bit. Costumes were NOT the focus. Here, I'm a little annoyed at the way everyone (other characters) OFTEN discount or question Spidey's ability to get the job done. It has happened many times, including MJ questioning whether or not he could get the job done during Spider-Island. Is Storm's costume in the "current century?" Is Black Cat's? Psylocke's? Black Widow's? No. Everyone's perfectly fine with THOSE outdated costumes. Kevlar for Black Widow? I don't think so.

(I'm pretty sick of everyone coming back to life.) 2) Black Bolt is not an Avenger, he's an Inhuman. 3) Black Panther and Iron Man aren't new Avengers, they're old Avengers. (Iron Man is a FOUNDING Avenger!) 4) Mr. Fantastic is not an Avenger, he's a Fantastic. I know I;m nitpicking here, but I think that's a dumb lineup, and I'm tired of every book having "Avengers" or "X-Men" in the title. /grump
