Rupert Wyatt No Longer Helming DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES?

In some extremely disappointing news, it turns out that Rupert Wyatt has decided not to direct the sequel to 2011's $483 million box office hit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Fox are declining to comment, but find out why he's decided to pass on the project right here!

Critics and fans agreed that Rise of the Planet of the Apes was fantastic. In fact, so good was Andy Serkis' motion capture performance as 'Caesar' that there was a fair amount of outrage when he wasn't nominated for "Best Supporting Actor" at this year's Academy Awards. Well, in a disappointing turn of events, it now looks as if the sequel (titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) is without a director as Deadline reports that Rupert Wyatt will not helm the highly anticipated follow-up. Why? Well, it turns out that it's for the same reason that Gary Ross decided not to direct The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He simply doesn't want to rush the film out for 20th Century Fox's May 23rd, 2014 release date. Fox had no comment, but expect an announcement either way very soon.

If they're smart, they won't release it without him. But it's FOX.

Rush? He's had a year to get it started, plus another 2 to shoot and finish it. Gary Ross had a point, I can't make any sense of this. It didn't take them 3 years to do the first one, so this is fishy.

Sad, that was a DAMN good movie. One of the most badass movies I seen in 2011. Except for (Madea's Big Happy Family) hahahahhahahaha...............sike. But seriously, hopefully the next director will put out something amazing and even top the first.

I just searched 'Justice League' on Deadline Hollywood and the only article I could is one with Affleck's reps denying he's been approached for JLA. Unrelated articles about Affleck did come up in the search though.

Some people take years to finish their scripts. He just wants to make sure the story of the sequel is perfect.
Fox is just thinking money like all the production companies.

That's too bad, Rise was a pretty solid movie, maybe the best summer movie last year. It seems strange that Wyatt thought a movie that is to be released 2 years from now will be 'rushed' though.

Calm down fanboys, Fox has done nothing wrong here. The movie isn't to be released until 2014, 2 years from now! Its not being rushed!
