J.J. Abrams And Alfonso Cuarón Working On Yet Another Superpower Themed TV Series

Following the news earlier this week that Howard Gordon And Max Landis are working on Vigilant, yet another TV series is being planned which fits loosely into the superhero genre about a girl with powers and the man who protects her from those hunting her down! Read on for details.

Deadline reports that Academy Award nominated director Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Azkaban, Children of Men) is teaming up with J.J. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek) for a "high-concept" drama at NBC. The pilot has already been given the green light, and Cuarón will both direct and co-write it (with Home Of the Brave's Mark Friedman). The currently untitled project doesn't sound like your usual superpowers story, but it certainly looks as if it will fit within the genre (similar to Vigilant, which you can find out more about by clicking HERE). The site describe it as being, "about a girl in possession of a great gift/powers — which will come into their own in seven years — and the man who is sprung from prison to protect her from those trying to hunt her down." With Abrams involved, it seems like a fair bet that the series will be steeped in mythology! What do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

A gem or a train wreck. This could go either way.

With the exception of the upcoming "Shield", I don't think main network viewers and executives have the patience for another super-powered show. They'd rather watch crap reality-tv or who's sleeping with who shows.

JJ Abrams.

When he came up with Alias it was a fantastic t.v. series, and then he ruined in in Season Five with his immortality garbage.

He also ruined Star Trek.

Not really excited about any of his projects anymore.

Didnt the cheerleaders dad protect her because she had special powers and was being hunted down by some agency or another?
Sounds like rinse, cycle and repeat with new characters.

@Todd Gray Right now people are high on his Trek because its new but it wasn't very good. The casting was very bad. His Spock looks like a parody from Saturday Night Live. And Chris Pine's Kirk was less like a leader and Captain than Wil Wheaton's Crusher. The rest of the cast were weakish, only Bones and Scotty seemed to be OK.

@wbrowning79 So true! It doesnt matter if Heroes lost some strength in the later seasons, It still had people with powers, comic book references, heart and soul!

Other shows only have one or two...and always minus the heart!
