"Avengers is a big book, a special book," says series writer Jonathan Hickman. "I'm working with a small brigade of Marvel's best artists. It's a cool gig. We've got some stuff we're excited for fans to see."

The Avengers #1 and #2 will be released in December and kicks off with "Avengers World"; a three issue arc with art from Uncanny X-Force's Jerome Opena. The plan is to establish the team as being "something bigger, something more" in order for them to deal with "threats larger and different than anything they've faced before."

"We will see the back story of how Iron Man and Captain America have been quietly building a contingency plan for the day that comes in issue #1," teased the writer.

"One of the first things we all agreed on is that the roster should look more like the world. So far we've seen the biggest and most iconic characters, but as we reach issues #7 and #8, we'll see more new characters and characters we're reviving or recreating. Eventually there will be 24 characters. 12 will be either female or minority characters." - Jonathan Hickman

New Avengers will be about the "Illuminati" and features a team comprising of Captain America, Iorn Man, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Namor, Mr. Fantastic and Beast. Stephen Epting (Fantastic Four) will serve as artist. It will apparently be much different to The Avengers in the respect that, "the New Avengers are real world, they live in the dark, apocalyptic world as it is," says Jonathan Hickman. "The books will work in tandem. You don't have to read both, but they are two sides of the same coin. Two different stories."

• So, why does the team come together? According to the writer, "The catalyst is an event in Wakanda with Black Panther, the only man who told the original Illuminati it was a mistake. Something occurs so earth-shattering he sees no other course of action than to call on them. Avengers is the day book and New Avengers is night. Avengers is how we want the world to be, New Avengers is how it is. One book is about life, one is about death. The logos reflect all this."

• Captain America will lead The Avengers with Captain Marvel and Iron Man serving as "vice-captains" as they will occassionally split into three separate teams. Meanwhile, New Avengers will see them, "all think they're in charge and none of them are."

• Oh, and who is that on the cover of The Avengers above? HYPERION.

Digging the new rosters especially since Black Panther hasn't received much attention lately except in one issue of AvX. And how would BP trust or even talk to Namor after he destroyed his entire country almost. He burnt it to the ground more likely.

"Eventually there will be 24 characters. 12 will be either female or minority characters."
That sounds relieving a little since the Avengers have ben just A-Listers (comic wise) with the occasional hint at the high B-Listers. But females? Does Marvel have enough strong women in the universe that aren't dead or mutant?

(And first?)

New Avengers is gonna have something to do with the Infinity Gauntlet. Just look at where their fingers are touching. Looks like the gems from the gauntlet, sorta.

That's kinda a tween girl facebook picture kind of thing though, isn't it? I mean, unless it's supposed to be taken humorously.
ATrueHero1987 - 10/5/2012, 1:42 PM
COOL! and good to see Black Panther back in The Avengers books.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 10/5/2012, 1:49 PM
"Not excited about 'Marvel NOW!'? Well, this might just change all that."

No. Not really. I still don't know what to think about "Marvel NOW!". I'm still on the fence on these changes in the MU. I don't know. It'll probably grow on me sooner or later, but for now, I'm just not sure. :/

Stay EPIC, my friends!

Well, I'm excited. Nice to see Black Panther again and I really like the posters (especially the finger star, it's cute).

That Avengers cover with Black Panther looks badass.

I also read on CBR, he's bringing in a bunch of new villians as well. Hickmans genius strikes again. I see he brought back ronin, black bolt, and freaking hyperion. Heres hoping blue marvel makes his return. He was beast.
OrganizedChaos - 10/5/2012, 2:03 PM

How the hell does Namor get a pass and cyclops doesn't. This shit don't make logical sense. I'll wait for the trades, in no hurry to buy into this contrived new world order.
dellamorte1872 - 10/5/2012, 2:08 PM
NA sounds like the more worthy/interesting title A is same ol same ol but with HYPERION added in? weak!
Harris1 - 10/5/2012, 2:16 PM
The Xmen are second tier characters now. Marvel is all about the Avengers now. I guess a 1.5 billion movie will do that but they ruined a lot of good characters along the way. Cap has the same personality as ultimate cap. He's all reactionary, everything's a fight, everything's a battle. He didnt remember to remain a "good man". Whedon made cyclops a bad ass leader who wolverine even respected. Now he's just a common criminal. And wolverine has been turned into a pussy ass lap dog.
lokibane2012 - 10/5/2012, 2:27 PM
Wow, the third cover is super [frick]ing gay. I've seen those finger-star pictures done by elementary school girls... exclusively.
luckylu - 10/5/2012, 2:27 PM
i know i might get some negative remarks for this but i always thought it would be badass to see cyke lead the avengers a few issues. never gonna happen now that marvel shat, pissed, and spit on him.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 10/5/2012, 2:27 PM
@MarvelWeiner - Sweet Jeezuz!! :D
luckylu - 10/5/2012, 2:28 PM
or at least be part of an avengers roster
superotherside - 10/5/2012, 2:37 PM
Awesome. Can't wait for Hickman's Avengers run!
Carloshll726 - 10/5/2012, 3:04 PM
To MarvelWeiner: Who is that beautiful model? I've never seen her before.
fortycals - 10/5/2012, 3:19 PM
@maddrifter
Agreed. I've been waiting for Blue Marvel to make a lasting appearance. The last time we saw Hyperion he was put down by Blue Marvel, so maybe we will see him. I was hoping for a solo title eventually, but I can make do with him on the avengers.
Deadpool101 - 10/5/2012, 3:22 PM
black bolt is back and as an avenger [frick] yes thankyou marvel
damntree - 10/5/2012, 3:37 PM
Go Team Venture!
BlackFlash - 10/5/2012, 3:38 PM
Black Panther and Dr. Strange, Marvel is now F**king with us people who wanna see them in a movie.
MutantEquality - 10/5/2012, 3:42 PM
Not impressed with Marvel NOW so much so I think I'll delve into the past issues for good stories. Especially since I feel like I'm becoming jaded at the Avengers. So many characters feel like douche bags now and it's hard to accept them. Cap, Stark, Namor maybe I can accept as huge pricks that should be villains but since they're not and Cyclops is....I'm done for awhile. No amount of cutesy ridiculous crappy Avengers covers is going to change that. ok ok I'm done.
jimoakley666 - 10/5/2012, 3:54 PM
Covers two and three are ace.
AmazingFantasy - 10/5/2012, 4:17 PM
So badass
BobbyDrake85 - 10/5/2012, 4:35 PM
kool covers but namor is apart of the group after attacking wakanda and probably killing quite a few ppl in the process but yet cyclops with the rest of the phoenix 5 and magneto are all wanted felons somethings smell fishy
Deadpool101 - 10/5/2012, 4:35 PM
hope that new avengers is the best of the bunch. ready to see black bolt in action again
SCURVYDOG619 - 10/5/2012, 5:09 PM
"Avengers Omega"?

Hickman is a HELL of a writer.

Hyperion is a cool adition,no question, but there's an opportunity to reintroduce Marvelman(Miracleman)here if Marvel really wanted people talking about this MarvelNOW gimmick.
jimpinto24 - 10/5/2012, 5:38 PM
I'm looking forward to Marvel NOW! It's a solid lineup. I like the art, and Jonathan Hickman has put together a good team.
Jaspion - 10/5/2012, 5:56 PM
is that slender man?
Battabing - 10/5/2012, 6:03 PM
Why would BP and Namor ever be on the same team after AvX?
JustDame - 10/5/2012, 7:25 PM
Best part is new avengers is $2.99
Hellsboy - 10/5/2012, 7:50 PM
its cool to see tchalla back other than that i dont get it
mawilli4 - 10/5/2012, 8:51 PM
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
RedandBlue - 10/5/2012, 10:14 PM
Everyone dogging it because Namor and BP are on the same team..

That is why we buy the comics.. I'm sure there's a logical reason. The storytelling will explain.

Perhaps they're still not okay with each other, and they have to work it out in a team environment. The tension could make for a great story, so shut up and read.
mawilli4 - 10/5/2012, 10:23 PM
plus Black Bolt on any team but the Inhumans seems weird to me..
Shua - 10/6/2012, 12:59 AM
Anything that Jonathan Hickman writes, I have to check out. He did wonders for Fantastic Four, and he really knows how to take care of Reed, Black Panther, Black Bolt, and Namor. As for everyone complaining about Cyclops... I feel like his evolution as a character made sense. Over the past few years he has been difficult to root for, then Schism happened (which was very well written) and then finally the phoenix force, it all felt well paced to me.

If you long for the days of Boy Scout Scott, maybe the time travel element of All New X-Men will meet your need, and I have a feeling the old Jean and Scott will be here to stay so you'll get to have that element. I really enjoyed Scott's story and I'm looking forward to what happens with him next.
JamesAsAlways - 10/6/2012, 2:28 AM
@Shau well said, I'm so glad someone shares my view point about Cyclops.
toco89 - 10/6/2012, 4:59 AM
The complaints aren't about him jumping out of his character progression for AvX, it's the character arc itself over the past few years where they have him make a desicion that is already teetering on amorality, and subsequently make it seem worse with the dialogue and art.

A lot of the decisions he makes aren't even in line with his basic character traits or the ones he's developing within the story. He just does them for no apparent reason, then they don't explain why and its like they hope you won't notice that, if you know Cyclops and have been paying attention, there were better options that would have had logical basis within the story, his personality, and behavior.

The changes are always small, but they have deep ramifications within the story, and how Cyclops is portrayed to the reader.
