In today's AVX: Consequences #5, everything has changed for both Scott Summers and the X-Men. The conclusion of last week's issue saw Cyclops ask Magneto to break him out of jail, so what happens next? Find out here! [WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD]

When Cyclops was jailed at the conclusion of Avengers Vs. X-Men, his vocal fan base were furious at the thought that he would now be sidelined after years of leading the mutant race. Throughout the event mentioned above, it frequently seemed as if Uncanny X-Men writer Kieron Gillen was hell-bent on undoing the damage done to the character, highlighted best in his epilogue to the event. AVX: Consequences meanwhile has served as a way of taking Cyclops from being incarcerated to his "Marvel NOW!" role as a revolutionary of sorts (as indicated by his appearances in previews of All-New X-Men).

In the final issue of the series, he broke out of jail, but clearly has a dangerous new attitude as indicated by how he treated the prisoners who murdered Jake and the warden who incarcerated him in a jail which put mutants at risk. Whether this is an indication that Scott Summers is a villain or terrorist is debatable. Arguably, "Cyclops Is Right", but his attitude now is certainly one shared by Magneto - to do ANYTHING necessary to protect the mutant race. Below are a selection of scans from AVX: Consequences #5, but be sure to pick up the issue (which goes on sale TODAY!) for much, much more.

This is pretty much an exact dynamic switch from a couple years ago. Cyclops had Wolverine create the secret X-Force team in order to pre-emptively protect mutants from threats, because Wolverine wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty.

Now it seems that since Wolverine is trying to take the high road, Cyclops is stepping in to do the job himself.

Am I the only one who thought the letter was going to end with "....I'm not the hero the world deserves, but I'm the one it needs right now.."

This art is horrible. Story looks interesting.

That said, I'm with Nomis- I'd like to see a return of the old Wolverine. We didn't know much about him except that he was a short stocky guy with a very troubled and mysterious past and an anti-hero kickass attitude. Unfortunately, writers couldn't leave the mystery of Wolverine's past alone. We've now accounted for almost every day of his life before Giant Size X-Men #1.

Wolverine has become like the Fonz. The Fonz was tough and cool in the early episodes of Happy Days, but he was turned into a bigger wuss than Potsie as time went on.

Magik's current costume should be an X-men uniform. I liked it when they all tried to match. How cool would it be for all the students to dress like that in solidarity with the "murant terrorists"? Piss of Principal Logan.

@Nomis
i'm with you. i really need to catch up more on x-men but i've felt they've been tearing up wolverine since the first x-men movie. if pre-movie wolverine were still around, i don't doubt he'd be right there with cyclops with a cigar saying "about f**kin' time slim". No, wolverine isn't a villain, but he knows that being the dirty a$$hole that no one likes gets the job done sometimes. i'm all for characters changing and growing, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense.

oh and as far as the art goes, it just doesn't fit a superhero comic book. other than that, i'm fine with it.
