With a cover by John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men) and stunning interiors from Daniel Acuna (Wolverine), this first look at Rick Remender's Uncanny Avengers brings Thor face to face with Apocalypse in a follow-up to "The Dark Angel Saga".

Quite something, eh? As well as confirming that Daniel Acuna will be taking over from John Cassaday as regular artist (he will still continue to provide covers however), Uncanny Avengers is set to explore Wolverine's recent decision to kill his son (Daken) in the pages of Uncanny X-Force. Here's what Remender had to say about how the Apocalyse storyline ties into that series:

"A lot of this story picks arc from the Dark Angel Saga from Uncanny X-Force, though it's not a sequel. We've spent a lot of time incorporating Kang and also Thor into Apocalypse's mythology. The fun of Uncanny Avengers is the A meeting the X in a big way. You don't need to have read the Dark Angel Saga to understand this, but if you have, here's where that picks back up. In that story, Archangel impregnated Pestilence. Whatever she gives birth to is going to be a problem for people and also involve Kang's machinations and scheming."

Horrible costume change! His classic costume didn't need to be changed!
SuperSomething616 - 12/10/2012, 2:49 PM
Obviously a flashback sequence...love how Thor is being portrayed as more viking'esque' in the past both in this now and his own series...
orpheus - 12/10/2012, 2:49 PM
Looks like Young Thor! This is going to be incredible!
Xiim - 12/10/2012, 2:49 PM
Okay I actually really dislike that costume for Apocalypse however... from the looks of things its not the current costume... its an old one.

Thor's look here, as well as him using that axe, shows that this is from his past. It is how they have been differentiating him visually in the new GOD OF THUNDER series... so this appears to be a story where Thor encountered Apocalypse in the past..
TheDpool - 12/10/2012, 2:51 PM
Is that Loki in the 3rd frame?
Xiim - 12/10/2012, 2:52 PM
Also, and I realize this is strange... but it may not be OUR Apocalypse. Uncanny X-Force made Apocalypse pretty clear as a being with abilities granted to him(by the Celestials I believe) that was to shepherd the next stage of evolution... so its possible that Thor is fighting an incarnation of that role on another planet...

Apocalypse looks pretty lame in that first pic. That being said, I'm pretty excited.
jimpinto24 - 12/10/2012, 2:56 PM

This art looks really good in my opinion. Thor vs Apocalypse is a great idea.
Temple - 12/10/2012, 2:59 PM
This is gunna be gooood. I was hoping for a full on sequal to the dark angel saga, but this is great as well. Also, Its sad what happened to daken.
jimoakley666 - 12/10/2012, 2:59 PM
I'm very excited to see Daniel Acuna taking over on artwork. He is pure brilliance. I love his work so much. Cassaday's Apocalypse on that cover looks a bit... hmm...
Shadowelfz - 12/10/2012, 3:04 PM
This looks cool but what's with Marvel putting Avengers in every title?

Whatever. Thor vs. Apocalypse is something I've been waiting to see for a while.
MutantEquality - 12/10/2012, 3:09 PM
This is going to be interesting. No Xmen hmmmm. That being said, I can't wait for this and I'm still hoping...

One day we will have an Xmen reboot and finally get Apocolypse on the big screen!!
beane2099 - 12/10/2012, 3:15 PM
Apocalypse looks like be has a bowl cut. That aside, it's about time we see the big A interacting with the other heavies in the Marvel U. That X Factor annual where he fights the High Evolutionary to a stand still was awesome.
comicb00kguy - 12/10/2012, 3:19 PM
Is that supposed to be Apocalypse? LAME! What a stupid looking costume. Why tamper with a classic?

Layouts on the interior art aren't bad, but it's screaming out for a better inker.
Temple - 12/10/2012, 3:24 PM
Anyone know if this is the old apocalypse or pestilence newborn?
TheDARKestKNIGHT - 12/10/2012, 3:26 PM
Thank the Gods John Cassaday's off art duties! That guy sucks!
JDUKE25 - 12/10/2012, 3:39 PM
Terrible costume design.

Cassaday-Worst artist EVER.
Wildaniel - 12/10/2012, 4:02 PM
There is only two out right now right? LOL, whats with this preview, are there previews for 3,4, and 5?
PapaMidnite - 12/10/2012, 4:18 PM
The artwork is cool, but Thor looks like a regular aesir warrior, not a god.
ATrueHero1987 - 12/10/2012, 4:40 PM
John Cassaday isn't doing the art?! I'm not surprised. Acuena is doing the art....not a fan of his.

WHY can't Oliver Coipel do some art now? He can do a least one story arc.
avengersleagueofjusticeforamerica - 12/10/2012, 4:42 PM
that makes 2 of us then.... red skull... that is just weak writing. although this story has peaked my intrest.
avengersleagueofjusticeforamerica - 12/10/2012, 4:44 PM
that was @kamenrider
kevberg - 12/10/2012, 4:50 PM
why does thor have an ax instead of Mjolnir?
Minato - 12/10/2012, 4:59 PM
Sh!t Apocalypse
Reboot his Shape up
ironpool007 - 12/10/2012, 5:25 PM
Cassady is a great artist, but he's really slow like Brian Hitch. I think a rotation. And I would not be surprised if Jerome Opena comes in with Dean White for a few issues, even though he's on the rotation for Hickman's Avengers series.
LordHuck - 12/10/2012, 6:48 PM
Any Apocalypse costume redesign that gets rid of the Huge "A" belt buckle is a good thing.
marvel72 - 12/11/2012, 5:37 AM
cassady's artwork on astonishing x-men 1-24 was very good but saying that his stuff on uncanny avengers could be better.
ClarkFarley2012 - 12/11/2012, 5:40 AM
En Sabah Nur vs. Thor..I'm in. Wow didn't know Logan killed his son. Time to get some back issues.
pepe - 12/11/2012, 7:21 AM
Wait... Is Loki an adult now or a child?
