MTV Names THE DARK KNIGHT RISES As Their Top Movie Of 2012; THE AVENGERS Ranked At #5

Another prominent film website has released their "Top 10" list of movies to be released this year, and this time it's from our friends over at MTV News. The Dark Knight Rises is their #1 pick, but the placement of The Avengers may upset warring Marvel fans. Check it out!

The guys over at MTV News have published their "Top 10" movies of 2012, and as you can see from the headline above and list below, it was Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie which really impressed them this year. Why? Well, here's their explanation. "How do you follow up one of the best comic book-inspired films of all time anchored by an immediately iconic performance? You go bigger. You raise the stakes. And you put an exclamation point on the end of it. That's what Christopher Nolan did to close out his awe-inspiring take on the legend of Batman in "The Dark Knight Rises," and it's why it's our favorite film of 2012." Fair enough. As a mainstream website, they certainly have a good grasp on what the regular moviegoer enjoys (unlike a lot of other similar lists we've seen recently), but their decision to put The Avengers four places beneath The Dark Knight Rises may not sit well with some! Django Unchained seems like the only real glaring omission from this list, although that could be because it's not out until December 25th. Check out their selections below and be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
3. Looper
4. Zero Dark Thirty
5. The Avengers
6. Skyfall
7. The Cabin In The Woods
8. Silver Linings Playbook
9. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
10. The Hunger Games

MTV? lolololol

One would expect Twilight to have at least made the list.
driver - 12/14/2012, 6:59 AM
Looper is better then Avengers? So, MTV plays a game called who pays more.
GoILL - 12/14/2012, 7:13 AM
I see Josh getting a lot of adsense off of this article.
Benedict - 12/14/2012, 7:14 AM
I almost completely agree with this list... Why is Cabin in the Woods there?
fettastic - 12/14/2012, 7:15 AM
Oh how you editors do like to stoke the flames.
zachshivey - 12/14/2012, 7:15 AM
avengers should be ahead of looper. i love batman and this franchise but they were wrong about the avengers it should be higher. but its their opinion so screw it. besides they still have more movies to put out so they will rank higher next time
fettastic - 12/14/2012, 7:16 AM
Yeah I thought Cabin in the Woods was total garbage until the last 20 minutes. It was not enough to redeem the movie.
GingerBird - 12/14/2012, 7:16 AM
I love whenever ANYONE puts TDKR on a top films list, all the bitchy haters trash the publication.

Sore losers.
fettastic - 12/14/2012, 7:17 AM
Looper had some plot holes. The biggest being "There's a guy coming to kill you at this address......let's stay put!"

Good movie though.
jimpinto24 - 12/14/2012, 7:18 AM
I enjoyed TDKR. But I don't know why The Avengers is #5 on this list?
ComfortablyNumb - 12/14/2012, 7:18 AM
While I enjoyed TDKR you must admit it was full of plot holes.
Funsize - 12/14/2012, 7:19 AM
Im getting tired of these articles.
MrReese - 12/14/2012, 7:22 AM
so they've seen The Hobbit then? & still placed it in 9th place? haha TDKR wasn't a great film but it was a decent ending 2 Nolan's run. N it doesn't deserve best film of the yr or w.e they're shooting 4. I heard good things bout Looper & Skyfall tho.
AmericanPsychoWolf - 12/14/2012, 7:23 AM
I think Avengers should had been #2 not #5.

Twilight didn't make the list? Kinda funny since they win the MTV movie awards EVERY SINGLE DAMN YEAR!
JokerFanHAhaHA - 12/14/2012, 7:23 AM
TDKR is a decent film but in no way is it "best" in ANY category.
Sagart - 12/14/2012, 7:23 AM
The Avengers at #5? Behind Perks/Wallflower!!??!!
The Hobbit anywhere in the top 10 is just plain wrong.
JokerFanHAhaHA - 12/14/2012, 7:23 AM
And no one should take MTVs movie award system seriously anyway, One word reason for it. Twilight.
AmericanPsychoWolf - 12/14/2012, 7:25 AM
Here comes another flame war......
blueorangeny - 12/14/2012, 7:25 AM
Why post this article. It will only increase the fire and argument.

ComfortablyNumb - Evey movie has a plot hole or 2. Let me guess The Avengers had none? right lmao
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 12/14/2012, 7:25 AM
Lmfao, TDKR cockblocking like a boss.

Boom.... Lets fight guys ;)
jaewest215 - 12/14/2012, 7:27 AM
Who takes MTV seriously anymore? I know I don't.
blogger234 - 12/14/2012, 7:27 AM
that's [frick]ed up. the avengers was better than the dark knight rises.
jaewest215 - 12/14/2012, 7:29 AM
@ blueorangeny - Your right. Every movie has plot holes and mistakes and flaws in some way, shape or form. There are ALWAYS movie mistakes and flaws.
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 12/14/2012, 7:29 AM
Anyone watch the hobbit, smh. Massive [frick]ing disappointment, PJ splitting it into a trilogy was a great [frick]ing mistake.
GingerBird - 12/14/2012, 7:29 AM
Try watching TDKR more than once, promise you'll notice there aren't NEARLY as many "plot holes" as people bitch about.
Simonsonrules - 12/14/2012, 7:31 AM
What is this "MTV" you speak of?
Ranger14 - 12/14/2012, 7:31 AM
"How do you follow up one of the best comic book-inspired films of all time anchored by an immediately iconic performance? You go bigger. You raise the stakes."

*chuckles* Even most of the fans of TDKR admit it is not as good as TDK. Not sure how that is going bigger and raising the stakes. To each their own. Just the opinion of some editors at MTV. Cabin in the Woods is on the list? Where's Moonrise Kingdom? The Hobbit just got released so they didn't put a lot of time into thinking things through very well.
JokerEl - 12/14/2012, 7:33 AM
TDKR was indeed the best movie of 2012!
brikster - 12/14/2012, 7:34 AM
ALL I CAN SAY IS "STUPID IDIOTS", THEY JUST DON'T HAVE A CLUE. IF YOU STICK DARK KNIGHT @ #1, THEN AVENGERS HAS TO BE #2. ALTHOUGH I WOULD FLIP THESE TWO AROUND, AVENGERS SHOULD BE #1.
Godzillafart - 12/14/2012, 7:34 AM
Don't think Avengers is under-rated, just that TDKR is over-rated.
Godzillafart - 12/14/2012, 7:35 AM
Nolan has a weird trick in most of his films of taking a bunch of fantastic performances and making a mediocre drama.
SupermansBeard - 12/14/2012, 7:38 AM
"But the movie I liked best should be the one on top because everyone needs to think like I think because I am the most important random person on the comic book forum so therefore people should think like I think!"

lol the thought process of the nerd community, but, who am I to talk, I'm here too lol...only I'm not butt-hurt because my movie didn't make the right ranking spot. Although The Dark Knight Rises was the top on the list for me as well...but I don't think other people should have to think like me nor will I criticize anyone for having a different OPINION...why do nerds love to argue so much?
CPIXLEY - 12/14/2012, 7:41 AM
The Cabin in The Woods was fantastic.
soberchimera - 12/14/2012, 7:41 AM
Yeah but we all know Breaking Dawn will win all the MTV Movie Awards.
TheAbomination - 12/14/2012, 7:41 AM
Do people even care about what MTV thinks?
birdfists - 12/14/2012, 7:41 AM
I'm not going to talk about how Amazing Avengers is, because it had it's problems too.

But TDKR was a pretty crappy movie honestly, there was so many times during the movie I had myself asking 'WHY?'

So many motives and decisions just made everyone in the movie 'horror movie stupid' in a lot of ways, and I just couldn't get over so many things that happened but got no reason or explination of how, and honestly, the movie was a 6.5/10 for me, which is saying a lot because TDK was a 9, easily.

TheAbomination - 12/14/2012, 7:42 AM
And what the f*uck is the Perks of Being a Wallflower?
ThePowerCosmic - 12/14/2012, 7:44 AM
This is the MTV that's number one show is Jersey Shore right? Ok just checking.
silverdog - 12/14/2012, 7:47 AM
I know you guys are desperate to revindicate Nolan's fiasco, but... MTV? really?
justified1 - 12/14/2012, 7:49 AM
TDKR is top?

Good movie but not the best.

SKYFALL!! Bitches!
Ranger14 - 12/14/2012, 7:52 AM
dubWookWook@ Larger scale doesn't translate into being a better film, so MTV's reasoning is skewed by the mere fact they used that reasoning....and name calling is a the best way to discredit any kind of point you try to make.

The should just go ahead and rename MTV as PRT. Poor Reality Television network. I don't know if MTV can be taken seriously by anyone anymore, except the youngsters who get off on the pathetic shows they air.
Godzillafart - 12/14/2012, 7:52 AM
@Justified1: One of many better than TDKR.
jessepostal - 12/14/2012, 7:55 AM
Any network that plays jersey shore, or anything slightly related can not speak of "quality"
Fogs - 12/14/2012, 7:56 AM
Jeez another brawling-inducing story.
shadearts - 12/14/2012, 7:56 AM
Sad Why? because MTV is for next genaration and they now will think Robin is John Blake and not Dick Grayson and he is now Batman SMH
thespiderkat - 12/14/2012, 7:56 AM
oh well, if it is on jersey shore TV's "prominent film website", then it must be true.

Actually, I would love to see Nolan's face on the mtv movie awards next year..after losing to Twilight: Breaking Dawn. maybe they can get Honey Boo Boo to give him a lifetime achievement award.
TheDetectiveComicRises - 12/14/2012, 7:57 AM
Glad to see to see The Dark Knight Rises do so well on many list & come in number 1 on this one. It had a successful run at the box office & I am enjoying my limited edition broken mask Blu ray. I look forward to Man of Steel nxt year glad to see great films based on DC Comics characters. I liked how TDKR shifted from scene scene it was like reading a comic book & I loved it I am grateful to own the trilogy :)
StrangerX - 12/14/2012, 8:02 AM
The fact that Cabin in the Woods is on the best of 2012 makes this article invalid
GoILL - 12/14/2012, 8:02 AM
The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers will both lose to Twilight at the bullshit movie awards that MTV shows every year. It happened in 2009 with Iron Man and The Dark Knight.
GoILL - 12/14/2012, 8:03 AM
@SteveRogersSon

LMAO.
