Tom Hiddleston Was Interested In Helming THOR: THE DARK WORLD; Kevin Feige Open To Idea

The Avengers star Tom Hiddleston reveals that he approached Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige about the possibility of directing of Thor: The Dark World and would have been considered for the job had he come up with the right pitch. So, how soon until we see Loki behind the camera?

It's not uncommon for actors to make the transition into directing, often with great success (Ben Affleck (Argo) and Kenneth Branagh (Thor) for example). Talking to Empire Magazine recently, Tom Hiddleston was asked whether or not he would have any interest in directing a film at some point in the near future. "Yes, I do. I did ask, half-jokingly, Kevin Feige about directing Thor 2 and he said, 'Do you have something to show me?' I said no. He said, 'If you made something and showed me, I might consider it.' But it's better for the world that he said no. It would be such a responsibility, but I think I'd enjoy it." Marvel Studios are known for making some unusual choices when it comes to their directors, so it certainly wouldn't be too shocking if they were to give Hiddleston a shot at helming one of their comic book adaptations. If his skills behind the camera are as impressive as those in front, it's hard to not want to see this become a reality!

Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Bring on Director-Loki! He would be an interesting choice for Thor 2's director, but I think they did great with giving the director's chair to Alan Taylor. Still that leaves the future open for Loki directing...
manymade1 - 12/24/2012, 6:36 AM
Loki as director? Holy frick, they gotta make this happen.

Wildaniel - 12/24/2012, 6:53 AM
Would he have also played Loki in the movie too? That might be too much work for one man, even for Loki lol.
TrueRedBlue - 12/24/2012, 6:58 AM
Jeez, everybody thinks they can direct nowadays.... even the God of Mischief...
jessepostal - 12/24/2012, 7:05 AM
Everyone is a director these days.

@shamo, you do relise Johnston has some huge titles under his belt
ATrueHero1987 - 12/24/2012, 7:11 AM

NerdyGeek - 12/24/2012, 7:15 AM
OK, why not? It would be cool.
bazinga85 - 12/24/2012, 7:39 AM
"I'm Loki Laufeyson, and I approve this message."
lntrn8 - 12/24/2012, 7:47 AM
he would promote the hell out of the movie
TheAbomination - 12/24/2012, 7:47 AM
I have no problem with this. Let him direct Thor 3.
captainroy - 12/24/2012, 7:47 AM
save it
thatdylhooper - 12/24/2012, 7:57 AM
Awesome
Shamo - 12/24/2012, 7:57 AM
@ Jesse, as a director what does he have exactly?
Maximus101 - 12/24/2012, 7:58 AM
That would be a disaster, good thing he didn't.
didich - 12/24/2012, 8:10 AM
I'm glad he didn't direct this one, but only because I think he needs a bit of experience first.

But once he gets it, it would be amazing.
jessepostal - 12/24/2012, 8:12 AM
@shamo, October sky, the rocketeer, jp3, honey I shrunk the kids, jumanji, hidalgo, and the first avenger. I'd call that accomplished
JorLBola - 12/24/2012, 8:32 AM
Interesring, he say that he doesnt have nothingo to show, but may be it could be a nice surprise :)
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 12/24/2012, 8:36 AM
Let him do some of the Marvel One Shots! Then we'd have a look at what sort of stuff he'd bring to the franchise!
I say hell yeah! Getting a film made for the fans by a fan is definitely not disagreeing with me...
aztecRaingod - 12/24/2012, 8:59 AM
I love Hiddlestons work as Loki, but hes really reaching here. Whens the last time anyone just up and directed a sequel they were co-starring in?

Its not like he directed the first one.
aztecRaingod - 12/24/2012, 9:11 AM
SMH, just stick to your role as Loki, Tom.
Funsize - 12/24/2012, 9:48 AM
I'm not familiar with his directing skills but it does sound interesting.
VanthDreadstar - 12/24/2012, 9:56 AM
I like Tom so much I'd roll the dice. Might be a better idea to give him a small project first and see what happens. Having your first attempt at directing be a 100 million dollar sequel to a film fans are crazy about might be a bit too much.
kemuael - 12/24/2012, 9:57 AM
ill give him a chance possibly give him those marvel one shot short films to direct and if he does a good job then moving him up to the big leagues if he's "Worthy"
Gunslinger - 12/24/2012, 10:09 AM
Great actor but let him sharpen his directing teeth in a smaller film. He could turn out to be shit at it.
Supes17 - 12/24/2012, 10:24 AM
They should give him the chance.
If he sucks at it, well....
But then again he might turn out to be another talented actor/director like Ben Affleck.

You know what they say, If you never try, you'll never know!
Dev7 - 12/24/2012, 10:41 AM
It sounds to me that Fiege was having trouble finding a director for Thor 2 and Hiddleston layed that joke upon him to direct Thor 2.
aztecRaingod - 12/24/2012, 10:49 AM
I like the non chalant attitude around here of "Aw shucks, they should just let him direct it ! " as if its a $50 dollar youtube production.
zachman2013 - 12/24/2012, 11:11 AM
He's a great actor. So if he did some indi-action movies first to get some experience, then I would say hell thee yeah!!!
Luko - 12/24/2012, 11:22 AM
Damn! What about his own movie somethin´ like that: The main headline would be: LOKI THE UNWANTED KING OF ASGARD. He might be not just main star but director as well.
GET IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!
didich - 12/24/2012, 11:47 AM
He appears to like his work a lot. I admire his enthisiasm and I think that, motivation-wise, he would do a truly great job.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 12/24/2012, 12:22 PM

I read nothing to suggest that Feige was open to the idea.

He may as well have said, 'If you're Spielberg, you can direct'.

INSTANTJUSTICE - 12/24/2012, 12:27 PM

If they were that desperate then let's see the option, hiring an actor who's never directed anything in his life as opposed to hiring someone who may not be famous, is cheaper but is a journeyman director with thousands of TV dramas under his belt. I know who'd do a better job.

I don't think Feige will ever be that hard-up for either of those choices to matter.

Acting is not directing.
GizmoEl - 12/24/2012, 12:28 PM
I would love for him to direct a short. I really want marvel to start doing short movies to expand the secondary characters and flesh them out a little more.. While also using it to introduce new characters. A short movie at the end or beginning of marvel studio film that lasts about 3-5 mins long would be perfect.
Fogs - 12/24/2012, 12:53 PM
He loves Marvel, doesn't he?

@Josh - Btw Rene Russo is missing from the casting list, not?
TheMadman - 12/24/2012, 1:09 PM
Hey if Loki can be in 2 or more places at once, why can't Hiddleston act and direct at the same time?
