Marvel needs to stop publishing seperate series and just publish four monthly magazines with 90 page stories and let the crossovers happen between them:

COSMIC
MIDNIGHT SONS
X-MEN
AVENGERS

So:
- The Thing, Hulk,Cap and Cyclops get scarred/ mutilated.
- Dr. Strange and Wolverine are fine.
- Ms. (Captain) Marvel gets her hair dyed brown.
- Star Lord suffers a '90s looking costume? :P

I never was a huge DC fan, but any time I read one from the new52 i think.. wait, why do I even care what happens to these people? They may as well be completely new characters done from scratch.

Sure, Marvel isn't at the pinnacle of perfection when it comes to their comics, but at least they didn't find the need to basically throw 70+ years of material down the toilet in favour of appealing to new readers.

@ PantherX - It was 25 years, not 70. DC rebooted its universe in 1986 and before that in 1956.

A reboot is DC's way of saying..."We give up, our universe has gotten away from us and nothing makes sense anymore."

And no, DC admitting its loss is better than Marvel continue more of the same.

Looks like AoU will be set in an alternate timeline.

It's called different eras.

Golden age starts with Superman in 1938, Silver Age starts with Barry Allen in 1956 and the Bronze Age with the John Byrne Reboot of Superman in 1986. Followed by Flashpoint, which rebooted to the new 52.

Is this essentially an Age of Apocalypse Redux? Or will they actually be making this part of the main Marvel canon?

And why does Cyclops keep losing an eye? It happened in AoA, now it's the same exact deal in AoU. He needs to take better care of those bad boys...

Marvel is guilty of it, but not on a UNIVERSAL scale. I don't know how DC fans can take all of the continuity reversal bullshit they've been subjected to over the years.

Those Superman stories you read as a kid? Didn't happen. Those X-men stories you read as a kid, DID happen.

I'm not much of a DC fan as far as comics go. I like the cartoons and stuff but not the comics. I think the reboot was stupid because they erased everything that has ever happened before.

DC has done that SEVERAL times in the past, first time was in '56, then again in the 80's. I don't like that, and as a reader I'd be pretty upset.

At least with marvel the same stories that happened 30 years ago still happened. in DC, that's not the case. I suppose the strategy is good on paper for bringing in new readers, but they havent really got a lot of new readers from it, and a lot of the long time fans get pretty frustrated.

I think it's more of an "Age of Apocalypse with Ultron", alternate universe kind of deal which is why they look different.

ya know guy honestly its just easier to let go, i could make myself miserable trying to make complete sense out of MARVEL AND! DC CONTINUITY but instead of giving myself a headache over this its just far more enjoyable and liberating to sit back and enjoy good story arcs

So basically this means after the event; as Infinity has been announced, time will revert back and undo the whole Age of Ultron event...

Yes, both Marvel and DC do resets and reboots.DC has more of a history of this, but they feel it keeps their characters fresh for a new generation. Some of us have been around a little longer than others and have seen a few if not all of these. DCs Silver age reboot served the purpose of reintroducing the Superhero genre in general, as only the Trinity were pretty much the only heroes who survived the Mcarthy era and the institution of the comics code. It also pushed Marvel to bring back their Timely heroes like Captain America, Namor and create a new generation of superheroes like the FF and Spidey. The Bronze age seemed to be more of the companies updating and streamlining them without any huge universe changing elements. Then came Crisis on Infinite Earths and that series in my opinion changed the way comics companies made big changes. In DCs line they put everyone on one Earth, for better or worse. We know of course they later would reverse this with Infinite Crisis. Marvel would do events like House of M, which would change everything but would eventually have a plot device to put all back as it was. I won't name all, but DC of course did a total reboot with the new 52 and again for better or worse it's what we have. It will always go on like this between the big two, some will like it and some will not.

Relax people...this just gives a new look that will briefly last & soon revert back to the classic looks.

It's fun to change things up..imagine all food tasting the same for example.

Comics are a medium where ANYTHING could & should happen..not every story is great but keep an open mind.
