Are We Going To See A HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS Sequel?

Despite a lukewarm reception from critics, it appears as if Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters has performed well enough to warrant a sequel. Hit the jump for details on how the R-Rated fantasy/horror movie is performing at the worldwide box office.

With an opening weekend of just under $20 million in North America and a current total of $54 million domestically, it appears as if Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' performance overseas have hugely increased the chances of a sequel. With a budget of only $50 million, the R-Rated movie certainly seems to have performed well enough to warrant a follow-up of some sort and the ending of the movie certainly left the door wide open for a sequel. The actors involved all seemed fairly open to the idea when asked during the rather extensive press tour for the movie. Don't forget, you can read my review of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D by clicking HERE.

Fifteen years after their traumatic gingerbread-house incident, siblings Hansel and Gretel have become a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.

Worst movie of the year!!
NightWingNut - 3/12/2013, 5:53 AM
Whatever guys, I enjoyed it. If you went into this movie expecting a solid, meaningful story then I dunno what to tell you. I set the bar to Van Helsing level and to me...it surpassed it, so I was happy.
nikgrid - 3/12/2013, 5:58 AM
Really?! This shit gets a sequel and Dredd doesn't what the fvck.
astromerc - 3/12/2013, 6:03 AM
Okay see this is why we need to stop aid to all other countries and secure our boarders. Clearly the rest of the world rides the short bus.
Anton - 3/12/2013, 6:06 AM
Well, it's a pity that Dredd didn't get a sequel, but Hansel & Gretel is not shit, no. It's a fine entertaining movie, very funny at moments, has some great action sequences and also Gemma 'the goddess' Arterton is there, so it's totally worth a watch.
marvel72 - 3/12/2013, 6:20 AM
we'll see a sequel if it makes money.
ahhmynuts - 3/12/2013, 6:51 AM
they should go crazy with the next one with like a 7 foot dude named humpty dumpty with a rocket launcher, some sexy assassin version of little red riding hood, and maybe like some crazy trio of brothers who would be the human versions of the three little pigs but of course bad ass with awesome weapons. just go batshit crazy
Goran - 3/12/2013, 7:04 AM
@ Levitikuz: At least with Movie 43 I had a few good laughs.. ;)
Doppelganger - 3/12/2013, 7:11 AM

LAXtremest - 3/12/2013, 7:24 AM
I think I see LEVI on every single article I read. Well done sir.
kneelbe4zod - 3/12/2013, 7:29 AM
They'll think about making a sequel to this and not GL.. WTF!!
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/12/2013, 7:52 AM
Not great movie but fun. Witches are my weakness. Kinda reminded me of Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. If it would have been funny like those films too it would have been great.
fettastic - 3/12/2013, 8:30 AM
IF it reaches $200M worldwide, it will have just about broken even. Since sequels almost always gross less than their predecessors, I would say "Not [frick]in' likely".
fettastic - 3/12/2013, 8:34 AM
The Golden Compass grossed over $372M worldwide. I wonder when it's sequel is coming out?

Around the same time Hansel & Gretel's sequel comes out.
nibs - 3/12/2013, 8:35 AM
@astromerc
that was racist.

that being said, I haven't seen this movie, but it appers to me to be a pile of poo. renner blows.
fettastic - 3/12/2013, 9:07 AM
@nibs...

........So......you don't know the difference between race and nationality?
HugeCapfan - 3/12/2013, 9:12 AM
Hansel and Gretel 2, ... they should go after a male witch, the Warlock. Bigger, stronger, more powerful and smarter, with a huge world-destruction plan. Maybe this time, they'll save a witch, like that good witch in the first movie.

Let's get it made.
JoeMomma29 - 3/12/2013, 9:24 AM
Well guys there is only one person the blame for this well many I should say! The freaking idiots who paid to see this movie!!!!!

SimyJo - 3/12/2013, 9:48 AM
Dire.

No thanks.
nibs - 3/12/2013, 10:14 AM
@fetishtastic
hahaha I understand the difference. being nationalistic and closing your borders simultaneously is pretty racist, regardless of the state in question. if you think otherwise I don't think you understand the implications.
but I'm pretty sure astromerc was only joking and just really wanted to paste his yellow bus jpeg, and I just meant to be witty-ish. so calm down there Mr. Educated.
Am I the only one who finds it hilarious when politics are discussed on here?
beane2099 - 3/12/2013, 11:20 AM
Cause why not? Give everyhing a sequel.
fettastic - 3/12/2013, 11:20 AM
So.....America is racist against white people?
nibs - 3/12/2013, 11:46 AM
America doesn't have closed borders so I'm not sure where you are going with that. But some American border restrictions and regulations are absolutely racist (not against whites, obviously).
Will you at least google "closed borders" before you try to argue about them?
This is what I mean by hilarious. Please, just stop.

fettastic - 3/12/2013, 1:58 PM
I didn't say anything about closed borders. You're having that argument with yourself.
pro346 - 3/12/2013, 3:03 PM
@fett the golden compass cost $200 million to make....and sequels don't always make less.
SyamAgsa14 - 3/12/2013, 6:52 PM
Jeremy Renner deserves better roles
nibs - 3/13/2013, 5:28 AM
hahaha then what did you mean by "so...america is racist against white people?"
haha I get it though, your lack of elaboration correlates with your lack of understanding.
have a good one!
