JURASSIC PARK 4 Finally Has A Director; Colin Trevorrow To Helm The Movie

At one point rumoured to be the frontrunner to helm Star Wars: Episode VII, it has now been confirmed that Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow has signed up to bring Jurassic Park 4 to the big screen for Universal and producer Steven Spielberg.

"To clarify, there is another film we all love that I'm currently trying not to mess up," said Colin Trevorrow last year when rumours started doing the rounds that he was set to helm Star Wars: Episode VII for Disney. Well, it turns out that he was talking about the fourth instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise. After making his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed Safety Not Guaranteed, it has today been confirmed by Deadline that he will soon start work on Jurassic Park 4. The screenplay was written by Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, while Frank Marshall, Patrick Crowley and Steven Spielberg will produce. According to the site, Universal chose Trevorrow because "they felt he was a good match for the material, having grown up a huge fan of the trilogy and part of a new generation of directors steeped in all things dinosaur. They felt he would preserve and protect the characters in the story they created."

Safety Not Guranteed was an enjoyable flick but we'll see how this turns out the way there rushing this in to production isn't too encouraging but I guess that not necessarily a bad thing.

Actually, Godzilla was suppose to happen in 2012, but was held off because things were still being crafted out in terms of production team and how Gareth wanted to handled the subject and his vision. Godzilla happening doesn't really have anything to do with the Avengers.

Are you suggesting that The Avengers caused these other films to be proposed?

All of those projects were in development (or development hell) before The Avengers there just wasn't any sense of urgency to take the plunge and green light something.

The Avengers likely did cause FOX and know perhaps WB to finally put someone in place to "godfather" their CBM properties.And the news of a new Star Wars series of films likely got the other studios to dust off other dormant tent pole series like Godzilla or Jurassic Park.

Disney's release of The Avengers (and Star Wars news)likely did light a fire under the other studios azzes to start getting mega projects off the ground.

Yup, the world decided not to end because of the announcement of Avengers 2 as well.

Coppola was inspired to make the Godfather movies way back when because of the Avengers.

Hell, the art of cinema creation could only have sparked from the 2012 film, The Avengers.

There is peace in the world and happiness throughout all the lands because of The Avengers.

Legendary Picture's attain the rights to Godzilla in 2009, I think its safe to say that they were planning to start up Godzilla way before the announcement of another

I think it's all just about timing. None of these films will be able to match anything the Avengers accomplished so I don't think thats why they were announced.

Justice League.....maybe....possibly but I doubt it.

This movie has been in pre-production for years. They're in no way rushing this movie. Treverrow is an awesome choice and I'm now even more enthusiastic about his movie.

Huge Jurassic Park fan. While I would've preferred Spielberg, I have no problem with this decision. I loved 'Safety Not Guaranteed.' It's a small movie compared to JP4, but It had a lot of heart. And I think that's what was so universally adored about the first Jurassic Park. Lots of heart. I wish Trevorrow nothing but the best, and pray to God that he doesn't screw up a beloved franchise and one of my most anticipated films.

@LEVITIKUZ - the cookie monster thing always makes me laugh.

I suppose when I reallllly think about it, it does. Since I don't have any faith in DOFP (but will see it anyway) I didn't really think of how big of a film is supposed to be. First class is good, I watched it again the other day and I expected a sequel not just another X film.

A new young and hungry director is great but it can also be bad as well. Just look at the director for Snow white and the huntsman. Well wait and see how it works out.

If done correctly? Maybe. I highly doubt it.
Either way I still want to see it. I wasn't making a biased opinion because Im for one and against the other.
Regarding the build up Marvel has done and how good the Avengers was, I don't see anything beating it. Except for Avengers 2.

I would LOVE to see a Justice League film that is as good as the Avengers though. I wouldn't mind if it was better.
I just don't think it will outshine it.

I'd say that Avengers' success has most to do with the following:

"Justice League, X-Men Days of Future Past, and Fantastic Four "

Justice League was probably never going to happen if not for Avengers. And the treatment of the other two is going to be heavily influenced by Fox's decision to do a shared universe like MCU.


I don't know about Godzilla and Jurassic 4 though.

@Levitkuz What Avengers has done financially, has probably most importantly "revitalized" the film industry into the franchise game...

It remains to be seen whether or not nostalgia for old franchises like Jurassic Park will succeed. That said, I myself enjoyed SNG. Here's hoping.

and anyone with half a brain will at least admit that Avengers DID make other studios think about how to.. ya know...make money again. make people want to actually GO to the movies again. Haters on that movie can bitch all they want, yet when it comes down to it, Avengers marketing team nailed it, and majority liked it. Boom, done.

Bring the Dilophosaurus back! Have the characters from the original back. Make T.Rex king again, everyone likes T.Rex over Spinosaurus.
