The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Ian McShane is the latest actor to join the cast of Hercules. According to the site, the The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides star will play, "Amphiarus, part priest, part prophet and part warrior who is Hercules’ counselor." They also offer up yet another brief plot synopsis for the movie, saying that it takes, "a more grounded approach to the classic Greek hero and ditches the supernatural. Hercules is portrayed not as the son of Zeus but rather a mortal with a fearsome reputation. He leads a team of mercenaries on a job where all is ominously not what it appears." Other outlets are reporting that Joseph Fiennes (Flashforward), John Hurt (V for Vendetta) and Rebecca Ferguson (The Vatican) have all also been cast in the movie, although there's currently no word on who they will be playing. The screenplay for Hercules was adapted by relative newcomer Ryan Condal from Radical Studio's graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars (a synopsis for which can be found below).

Fourteen hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules was the powerful son of the god king Zeus, for this he received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and presence of death. These men and woman never question where they go to fight or why or whom, just how much they will be paid. Now the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. It is time for this bunch of lost souls to finally have their eyes opened to how far they have fallen when they must train an army to become as ruthless and blood thirsty as their reputation has become.

The Rock and Hercules seem to be a good match, and yet I have some doubts. Maybe it's just casue I wanted to see him play Drax in GotG.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NOT ANOTHER GREEK MYTH MOVIE IN WHICH THE DEMI GOD HAS NO POWERS. Outside of nolame's batman no one cares for superhero with no powers.

Please don't rob him of his super strength, like you've done the other heroes in myth movies.
PsyBoy - 3/21/2013, 1:45 PM
Please don't be anything like Clash of the Titans or The Immortals!

the premise sounds and reminds me of god of war, I hope it's like that and not like the clash of the titans remake

Just read the comic series for this and it is pretty interesting, if not predictable, wondering how they will go about with it tbh as some of the scenes are quite brutal.

It's a great cast strangely. And can we please not headline it as if Snow White was McShane's greatest acting accomplishment? Even if it IS the most recent, I can't fathom how they assembled one of the greatest bunch of actors to play the dwarves in that flat mess
soberchimera - 3/21/2013, 3:58 PM
So no Twelve Labors? Laaaame.
StrangerX - 3/21/2013, 4:00 PM

Brett Ratner?
YES!! Finally, a director in Hollywood that gets what fans want, not like JJ Abrams or Brad Bird (hacks!!)No, this is a REAL auteur. He is the greatest director of our generation!! He is even smart enough to know that HERCULES was a Greek god, not that schmuck HERACLES!!

Okay, I'm joking. This movie'll blow smoking chunks. Ratner hasn't made a DECENT movie since Red Dragon (10+ years ago).
