WWE Superstar turned actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has cemented his status as one of the biggest box office draws in Hollywood as G.I. Joe: Retaliation took the North American box office by storm this weekend. Just as he helped to reinvigorate the Fast and Furious franchise at Universal (a sixth instalment is months away, while the seventh is rumoured to begin shooting this summer), Paramount are happy enough with the performance of the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra sequel to move ahead with a third instalment. I haven't had chance to check out the movie just yet, but director John M. Chu and the cast all seemed very enthusiastic about moving ahead with a follow-up when I saw them at the London press conference earlier this month. What do you guys think?

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonventura and Brian Goldner, from screenplay by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick based on Hasbro’s G.I Joe characters.

STARRING:

Channing Tatum as Duke
Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock
Bruce Willis as General Joseph Colton
Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye
Ray Park as Snake Eyes
Lee Byung-hun as Storm Shadow
Ray Stevenson as Firefly
RZA as Blind Master
Arnold Vosloo as Zartan
D.J. Cotrona as Flint
Elodie Yung as Jinx
Stephen Martines as Cross-Country
Eddie Hargitay as Tunnel Rat
Joseph Mazzello as Mouse

hey, we're living in a world where iron man 2 got a "threequel", so anything is possible :)
TheManFromMars - 3/31/2013, 11:43 AM
They are just building up for their massive Hasbro crossover with Transformers, Battleship, and My Little Pony.
Screwger - 3/31/2013, 11:52 AM
@SpidaTrav Are you trolling??? They Blow-Up entire London. Wasn't big enough for you? And also they blow up Ray Stevenson and he is really tall - so it counts!
TheManFromMars - 3/31/2013, 11:55 AM
I hope they use the "Knowing is half the battle" line.
Jollem - 3/31/2013, 12:00 PM
settle down, Psycho

The rock has really come a long way in Hollywood, he's now a star and box office draw. I never would have seen this after the scorpion king back in 2002. He's done well, it's looking like he made the right decision to leave the WWF. His acting has also improved from when he first started. If there's ever a heroes for hire movie, the rock should be luke cage
GenerationX - 3/31/2013, 12:05 PM
It's not "Rise of the Cobra", it's "The Rise of Cobra"
Jollem - 3/31/2013, 12:13 PM
go ahead and insult me, Psycho. that's cool. i don't know what i did to you
RPD - 3/31/2013, 12:14 PM
@SpidaTrav Dude, you might be joking around but you're not wrong. I'm all for trying to make it serious, kinda, but putting together a "classic" team and having vehicle battles is the logical next step. They can make it "realistic" and still make it enough like the cartoons and comics to satisfy the fans...
AdamX - 3/31/2013, 12:15 PM
Maybe \Destro survived lol? Maybe we will see his ressurection in the next Gi Joe movie lol. I really didn't like this movie but I will watch another one in hopes its better than the 1st 2.
RPD - 3/31/2013, 12:16 PM
BTW, I'm happy as hell about this news. Yo Joe!
AdamX - 3/31/2013, 12:18 PM
Gotta keep an open mind out there.
TheDudeRises - 3/31/2013, 12:18 PM
I dug the new flick up until they had the final battle under a frickin interstate highway next to Fort Sumter. Really? How exotic.

Lets go a little bigger next time.
Jolt17 - 3/31/2013, 12:20 PM
Oh, well. I liked G. I. Joe: Retaliation for what it is, but I'm looking forward to see a forced plot to be incorporated to make the next one happen. Here's to hoping it will just end as a trilogy!
AdamX - 3/31/2013, 12:22 PM
^His death was never confirmed
TheManFromMars - 3/31/2013, 12:23 PM
To be honest the only thing I didn't like about Retaliation is how forced and contrived the reveal of Strom Shadow's innocence was.

I found the way they got rid of the entire world's nuclear weapons to be quite clever and funny.
CaptainProg - 3/31/2013, 12:33 PM
Lol
PsyGuy - 3/31/2013, 12:36 PM
Didn't see this one coming.

oh well.
yingyangpalms - 3/31/2013, 12:43 PM
Its a sales tactic. Studios like to announce a sequel to a film to boost attendance or interest. They usually do it before a films release if they know it sucks like they did with Webbs Crappy Spider-Man.
They know if people hear that news they'll assume the current film must be good.

But 'GI Joe Retardation' has got some really bad reviews. The 2nd week drop off could be huge maybe something like 70%. That could kill sequel talk-hopefully.
ForeverPowerful - 3/31/2013, 12:44 PM
Still havent seen Retaliation. Hoping to do that soon. From what I can see, I can imagine a third film being much better. That way Chu can do what he wants without feeling pressured to acknowledge what went down in Rise of Cobra. Recast and redo some of the characters in bring in some fresh blood for the Joes. And please bring back Nichols as Scarlett, for obvious reasons.

Also I really hope the Joe/Transformer crossover happens down the line. That would be really cool to see.
TheManFromMars - 3/31/2013, 12:50 PM
@PeterDarker

Was there something wrong about his delivery? I wouldn't know because the version I watched was dubbed in my mother language.
Tony93 - 3/31/2013, 12:54 PM
THIS IS MADNESS
n1ghtw1ng2832 - 3/31/2013, 12:55 PM

Morbius - 3/31/2013, 12:55 PM
Sounds cool lets hope it doesnt take another 4 years for the next one tho.
Tony93 - 3/31/2013, 12:56 PM
who knows though, maybe it'll take em 3 tries to get the movie right
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/31/2013, 1:02 PM
Hopefully its better and has more and better written characters in it.
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/31/2013, 1:08 PM
Duke better comeback goddamit. With new actor in the role of course.
knighted - 3/31/2013, 1:15 PM

NostalgicYouth - 3/31/2013, 1:17 PM

Aero909 - 3/31/2013, 1:30 PM
yesssss loved this movie, bring on Dreadnoks, have Destro and his Iron Grenadiers come back for revenge on Cobra Commander too, bring back Scarlett and the rest of the movie 1 characters please, also Baroness can join Cobra again after hearing Duke's death and she now blames the Joes for it.
Luminus - 3/31/2013, 1:30 PM
@PeterDarker: LOL! Good one.

@yingyangpalms: Don't bet on it. I was talking to someone about this movie the other day, and he said he enjoyed the first one. People like brain-dead movies. The success of Transformers should tell you that.
SCURVYDOG619 - 3/31/2013, 1:48 PM
If Nic Cage plays Shipwreck in the next GIJoe movie....lol
cyclopstb - 3/31/2013, 2:17 PM
Have Ripcord join Roadblock get revenge on Cobra Commander from killing Duke. Or have Duke mysteriously alive as a prisoner.
catman - 3/31/2013, 2:18 PM
@LEVITIKUZ Shut the [frick] up..!!!
LEOSTRATOR - 3/31/2013, 2:43 PM
Why when I come on this site all I see is people crying about CBMs being realistic. If you want realism watch zero dark 30, these are CBMs. Hey why don't we make all the comic books realistic, strip all the powers and super tech from the books and ad some real dark story lines in the mix get rid of the comic relief and make it as boring and nonfantasy as most of the garbage movies out here. Even though I haven't seen gi joe, most of you guys are a bunch of buzzkills. I guess everything has to be dark knight, an over rated dry CBM with poor action and ok to lame story line as a trilogy. I want the comic book to come alive in the movie, lasers, flying men/women, crushing buildings with bare hands. Are you guys real comic book fans or just a bunch of trolls.

PS: Wolverine Orgine did suck pretty bad, so did Batman and Robin, just to much cheese. LOL!
